Files wiped clean on only one opersonal profile setting

  • Follow

Still trying to figure this one out. We run Windows XP SP3 with 5 user
profiles. For some reason the 1st personal profile setting was wiped clean
except for the start up programs. All documents, files, wallpaper, screen saver
,iTunes, they all disappeared. All the Virus/Malware scans come up with
nothing. Of course this user didn't back any of this up so his stuff is gone
as far as we know so far.
Thanks for any input.

Here is another twist to this. If you go to another users personal settings
and look up this persons documents, they are still there.

Well blueoyster,

this is your chance to log on as Administrator or user with admin rights
and copy all the documents from the first user's profile so that you
don't lose anything.

You can then create a new profile for the first user and pate his
documents back in to it. The problematic profile can then be deleted
completely.

Users never back up their important files. It is the administrator's job to
install tools that do it.

Creating a new profile is what we're doing. Thanks for the replies. I'm just
glad they are still on the pc.
