How to Repair or Restore WMI
An ancient Toshiba satellite laptop will not instal PCI

information about WMI but I could see no way to test or
correct my sort of error. There must be an alternative

Blinking Cursor in top left corner of screen
Hi All,
My pc refuses to boot beyond the screen giving bios info, detecting
drives etc. The pc hangs wiht the cursor flashing in the top left

The pc boots fine when I physically change the hard drive to
another.
After trying almost all the 'solutions' found on the internet I do not
know what to do. Any suggestions anyone?
Some things tried included: resetting the bios; interchanging onboard

I know this may not be the proper place for this question. Perhaps if no

Computer currently dual hard drive - one IDE and one SATA - both running Win

Hooked up new drive and computer will not boot past the Intel Screen (click

Memory test
I'm a big fan of the memory-test utility at memtest.org.
But now I have a 64-bit computer. Is the ISO bootable image
compatible with 64-bit PCs? The site doesn't say. It does mention
the i5 core chip, which is what I have.
And if I can't use memtest, does anyone know a good memory-test
program? I really like the memtest approach of a bootable image, so
that it's not dependent on the operating system.

Gaining Control of Client's PC With Remote Assistant?
Hello Folks:
As an independent software developer, Remote Assistant is a
tremendous tool. I've only recently discovered it.
It's great to tell a user to do this, or do that. Win7 to Win7

It's apparent that there is some method to gain control of the
client's computer. The connection status always includes the line
"Screen View Only" and there is a button with an "X" and a grayed out
"Stop Control (ESC)" label.
The invite is sent to me as an email attachment.

System size keeps growing......
My Master system (XP/Home/SP3) has been growing and growing
and is now nearing 20GB. I get rid of programs that I have
no need for periodically, but it occurs to me that Windows
Update has favored me with a zillion KB's over the years,
downloaded and installed them. I wonder why I still need to
store the KB's themselves. Isn't there a way to delete
the accumulated KB's that have been incorporated? Such
as, why not from Add/Remove Programs?
I will always have a backup system that has them if they're needed.
And I'm aware that 'support' for XP/SP2 is going away shortly.

User-defined Shortcut keys
Windows XP allows the user to assign shortcut keys such as Ctrl+Alt+X to

Delete Subfolders and Files
Hi all,
Could anyone clarify how the Delete Subfolders and Files permission
works?
Testing this on xp sp3 doesn't work as I'd expect:
UserA owns FolderA, and on that folder they have the 'Delete
Subfolders and Files' permission.
Inside FolderA is FolderB, owned by UserB. UserB has taken away all
rights from UserA to do anything with FolderB, including inherited
rights.
UserB creates FileB inside FolderB.
Now, UserA can see FileB inside FolderB, but cannot delete it.
Is that really the way it's supposed to behave?

Recovery is only possible by rebooting but I can access the computer over my

I am pretty sure it is not a virus (I am protected and have run tests) or

Help For Media Player
Can someone direct me please to the newsgroup that discusses Windows Media
Player 11? I can't seem to find one...My query relates to knowing how to
save a music file as it no longer has the "save as" feature on version
11....

XP ends right after start
Hello,
while trying to perform a system rollback to a prior date (without an urgent
cause), I ecperienced this problem:
Since the rollback routine tried to launch Windows again, there is a forced
logout immediately after a very short display of the empty desktop. This
also occurs in protected mode, even when I try to login as administrator.
Maybe the rollback routine throws me out, but it could also be just a
coincidence and there is a virus ore something like that on my computer
(protected with Kaspersky). Or is it something completely different?
Thank you for any help!

Virus?
A program called Personal Security loaded onto my laptop last night. It's
blocking about 95% of websites, claiming they are unsafe. It keeps going into
"buy a license" for $70; once it does that, I can't get to anything else. It
also does this when I try to delete it via the Control Panel add/remove
programs. I was able to get it out of my startup init but it's still
running. Anyone know how I can get rid of it? P.S. I'm on my husband's
laptop now...:-(

merge SP3 into a vanilla XP disc
I tried this already with image burn and the disc seemed to come out ok but
when I tried to use the disc it gave me a BSOD after it had loaded most of
the files.
I am trying to do this because I am wondering what will happen when support
is stopped for XP prior to SP3.
Will a person still be able to use a vanilla disc and then update it from
there or will there be issues with this once support stops?
Any thoughts?
Thx,
WS
