"Checking for updates" does not stop searching

  • Follow

I just installed Microsoft Update and when it went to see which updates I
needed it just kept going on and on and on with the search. Its message was
"Checking for the latest updates for your computer."

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Much appreciated.

2) Was the system restarted after opting into MU ?

1) Which edition of Windows; what Service Pack level is it on; which
Version of Internet Explorer ?

Open a Command Prompt (Elevated Command Prompt in Win7 or Vista by right
clicking cmd and choosing 'Run as admin'; follow the UAC prompts)

At the prompt type in following commands pressing Enter after *each* one

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 muweb.dll
exit

Try MU again.
