Cannot open .docx files after updates I have Word 2003. I installed Updates KB977724, KB978380, and KB978474 today and now cannot open .docx files. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Compatibility Pack for Word 2007 but still cannot open .docx files. How can I uninstall the updates? Windows XP SP3 update installed but not recognized? I am running Windows XP Professional. While trying to configure new software I received the message that Service Pack 2 or higher was necessary. I checked my version of Windows and it showed that service pack 2 was installed. So, I installed Service Pack 3. When I right click on My Computer and Properties, it shows Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3. However, when I try to install the other application I still get the message that "service pack 2 or later is required". Why Office 2007 updates for office 2003? We are running Office 2003 on one computer. The March update downloads from MS want me to take and install the following Office 2007 patches: Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB977724) Date last published: 3/9/2010 Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB978380) Date last published: 3/9/2010 These are obviously for Office 2007. The information provided with the update makes no mention of working with or needed by Office 2003. But it keeps suggesting I install these 2 patches. Why? Should I install them? KB979771 Will not install I cannot get KB 979771 to install no matter what I try. It is a junk email filter for Office 2003, and I am using Windows 7 - 32 bit. Anyone else having this problem? I have rebooted, retry updater, check for new updates, looked up the secret code "WindowsUpdate_0000052F" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" (which really doesn't tell me what is prohibiting this particular update), and have no luck. KB970158 What is it? I have a MS Intellipoint Laser Mouse 7000 V7.0 installed. When I went to install V7.1 this windows update KB970158 tagged along with my knowledge or permission. MS doesn't even list a description as to what it is. What was odd was that id didn't come thru the normal windows update screen. I uninstalled it and my mouse stopped working. I uninstalled V7.1 and went back to V7.0 and everything now works again. After installing multiple updates, error code 0xC80001F I have been installing multiple updates (due to computer restore). During this last set of updates, I noticed that there were a few that said they weren't installed (failed) successfully. I went back to the installed updates info, but there were no items that showed "failed". When I tried to go back to the Windows Update Home page, I received this error code [Error number: 0xC80001FE]. I do not have a 3rd party anti-virus or firewall active right now. Did Autorun get disabled? Autorun no longer works on my Windowns XP Pro/SP3 with the flashdrive I use for my camera and CD/DVD drive. Somewhere in my recollection of Windows security patches I remember something about autorun being disabled. Is there a way to fix this without a registry edit? error code: 800B0109 Hello, I have Vista Premium. Today I noticed this error message when starting the system, but it did not prevent using the programs. The error was associated, as the message informs, to Windows defender. As a solution, I tried also to look for updates, which was impossible and the same error code appeared (800B0109). Hiding KB976002 results in security warning Windows XP SP3 Windows update allows you to hide an update you don't want to install. Of course I have hidden KB976002 which is presented as a critical update but is not a security update and is only needed when the user wants to have it. However, now Windows Update complains that I have hidden a critical security update and that my computer will be in great danger until I restore this update. This is of course incorrect. KB976002 is not a security update. windows update fail...... What now? ok so I had a problem with windows update downloading but not installing.. I did go to the windows file in the C: drive and manually installed it myself. Thinking that it would fix my install problem.. I was wrong.. I next have found out that in my event logger that my IIS6 is not working properly or something. SP2 CD to SP3 Hi, I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and wanted to do a clean install. I did this before, and it was ok... But I'm wondering. Is there any way I can integrate SP3 into this SP2 installation from the setup? I personally don't like to go trough the whole process of updating. It starts by downloading sp3, then reboots.. then downloads another ton of updates.. then reboots again and again.. then downloads some more updates... You know the drill. xp sp3 installation of sp3 fails because it wants me to insert disc with frontpage (which I have not yet used) but never recieved the disc with purchase. windows update error message Hi For the last week or so I've been getting the message "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem. " I have 4 computers on a router using the firewall in the router, no other firewalls running and using AVG version 9.0 for all 4 PCs, which are all running XP SP3. Windows Update not working on IE7, XP Home Edition SP2 I don't think I've been getting updates for quite a while. I recently uninstalled McAfee and installed Norton Security Suite (free to Comcast customers). The Windows Update site would not load at all but I read somewhere about re-registering some services that McAfee apparently nuked, and it sort of started to work, But it's extremely sloooooooow. Also, I have that Background Intelligent Transfer Service flapping in my event log. It will not stay running. Is it needed for Windows Update? I seem to be stuck with 3 security patches getting constant error saying it can not update. What is the solution? I been reading through a ot of posts, my Vista does not have an upgrade option. I just installed this version of Ultimate Vsita and got iut patched all the way to SP2 before this error message started. It is Mar 1st 2010. Error 80070424 when updates is run When Windows (Vista x64) boot, I get a pop up telling me that Windows can't check for updates. When I run Windows Update manually, I get error code 80070424. I tried running a cmd prompt as administrator and re=-registering everything and it all succeeds including regserver32 wuaueng.dll but when I get to registering QMGR.dll it tells me that The module "QMGR.DLL" was loaded but the entry-point Dllregisterserver was not found. Windows 7 Update error 80072F78 I am recieving this error for the last month, I have tried many 'fixes' I have found on various sites. Still it will not connect to update. I am on a large network (The only computer with windows 7!) and we changed all the connection details, auto and manual and still nothing. Changed proxy settings, disabled them, running out of options! My last successful update batch (20th Jan) failed on an update for HP Display. From then its not worked. Windows Update keeps coming back with updates I already installed. Ever since friday 19 february, Windows Update about dayly keeps coming back with updates I already installed. In concerns the updates KB975560 and KB977914. Before I realised that it were the same updates again and again, I downloaded and installed them half a dozen times, and received an OK every time. 17 repeatedly offered updates not installing I have 17 updates repeatedly being offered & failing to install. I don't even begin to know where to start troubleshooting on this! I have automatic updates installed & mulitple people use the computer, so I do not even know which was the first update to fail to install, though I have tried installing them one at a time with no luck at all (I realized something was wrong when people commented on it trying to shut down and install multiple udates each time). Error Code 80080005 I have tried to install Serive Pack 2 on my Windows Vista laptop, but get error message 80080005. My laptop has been crashing a lot recently and I have recently installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, but sometimes when it crashes and does a system check it re-installs McAfee Security Scan Plus. Browser choice My OS is XP Pro SP3. I have installed the new browser choice update on my desktop computer, but although it is shown in the list of installed updates, there has been no desktop shortcut appearance, nor is there anything else to show its presence. Will not update I am running Microsoft Vista 32bit sp1. I had to replace hard drive due to problems when computer was made. Hard drive was sent directly to me from dell with all the operating systems programs and files that were on the computer when it was bought. Since then I have not been able to update Vista, Microsoft Office or any other program that came on the pc. PC freezes after upgrades After the last upgrades were installed, my computer now freezes up after intervals of non-use. It no longer goes to "sleep" mode - just freezes; screen is up but no curser or keyboard control. I have to manually turn it off and on. Service Pack KB948465 seems to be the problem. KB977914 Offered every day I have installed KB977914 5 times and every time it just gets offered to me again. the MS FAQs said that it means a file was not updated, however my computer registers all the latest dates on the files that were supposed to be installed. KB979306 and KB976662 updates on 2/24 After the automatic updates (windows xp), my computer was restarted and I awoke to registry issues. I lost and had to get back my wireless internet connection (linksys). I also lost my audio, and my tool bar is no longer the blue it used to be with XP and is now tan. I am still struggling with the MultiMedia driver that was lost that may or may not affect the sound. I removed the two patches and got the internet back. I then re-installed them and now if I go to the update page it just runs continuously searching my pc for required updates. Search For, Download & Install Windows Updates via Command Line Morning all Although we do have a WSUS server in our corporate environment, we sometimes need to get updates installed to non-standard image machines en mass (read: in bulk). I suppose we could create a script to add them to a specific WSUS target group & run wuauclt /detectnow or /resetauthorization /detectnow, but sometimes its not convenient to do, and having someone sit at the machine clicking through the web page & rebooting the machines really isn't efficient. Windows Update with Vista Update - Corruption I have a continuing problem when installing WindowsUpdates on my Vista 64b Ultimate machine. At some point during the installation process, memory is corrupted. This is evident by the fact that my screen graphics get totally 'scrambled' and the machine hangs. I have to powerdown, restart in Safe Mode and then restart in normal mode. This happens on about 1 in 3 update processes. I have all of the latest updates (except for those I tried to install just now...) Windows 7 Language Pack deployment I would like to let the users decide which language pack should be installed on "their" system. With Vista this was no problem. But Microsoft doesn't deliver MUI packs for Windows 7 through WSUS. What other options do I have? It should be possible for a standard user (_NOT_ admin mit UAC). Browser Choice Today, an update was applied that on opening IE onstartup gives me the option to install numerous other browsers. I don't want to as already installed those I want and I cannot find anyway to stop this page opening again. WSUS SP2 update I have 4 wsus servers, running SP1, 2 in the DMZ and 2 internal. I manually update these servers from the MS update site. The DMZ servers show WSUs SP2 as a available update when I go to the update site, but the two internal don't. Question one: Can the SP be installed from the update site?
