Wiped PC, restored with OEM CD , but windowsupdate doesn't work
I was never a Vista user so could use a pointer... given a pc with bad disk.
I ordered the Lenovo restore disk and installed a spare drive. The OEM
restore put the PC at SP0
With Vista, since Windowsupdate.com sends me back thru my control panel ,
when I try to update- it fails ( forget the error code right now).
In looking thru TechNet , Google etc I see that there were required updates
to get the updates ??
I tried 2 of the KB numbers and right now downloaded and installing SP1 to
the box ( says it may take up to an hour).
Can someone show me a way to get to Windowsupdate and NOT have it send me
back to my control panel ?
For now I'm trying to see if I can't install SP1 , then SP2 indirectly. Then
hopefully get the rest of updates thru windowsupdate. Any pointers
appreciated.

You need to apply SP2 - or at least SP1 - to use Windows Updates/Microsoft
Updates as Vista SP0 has been sunsetted. Use
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
