Hi, Sorry for the intrusion. If I am off-topic here please redirect me. I'm in a bit if a pickle that will take me some time to recover from because I thought that Windows Defender was all the virus protection I needed. Both my Vista and WinXP machines have become infected by the Win32.Gael.3666 virus and I dare not even try to boot them. They were both running Windows Defender which was right up to date. System Recovery Disks

I'm considering buying a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed, but it does not come with the system recovery disks. Is there any way of creating such disks, such as creating a file/files, and burning them to CD or DVD ? I realize the files backup system file may be stored on the hard drive, but given a recent problem with a trojan attack and the system not being able to boot up, I'd feel more comfortable with the recovery disks. search any files containing some words

I want to use Windows Explorer to search files that contain a word like PID. The file type could be .hl7, .txt, .doc or .pdf. How can I do this? Right now it does not show the result for .hl7 file. .hl7 is a text file really. Thanks Peter

I see the program "IHUninstall Track TASK" in my list of 4 scheduled tasks, and I don't remember setting up this task. Is this something I would have set or is it a spyware/tracking program? Thanks!

Camera list

When I go to install my camera, Vista cannot find my camera drivers in its list. The only one that shows in the manual list is Kodak. Previous windows have had many camera manufacturers listed. How can I find the list for Vista?

Saving system restore points

I just reinstalled Vista. It took me hours! I now have it just the way I want it. I know that I can create a manual restore point. I also know that as the space for storing restore points fills up, the oldest restore points are deleted. Is it possible to back up the restore points to an external hard drive or burn them to disk so I can reinstall the restore points anytime that I want to? Is it possible to delete individual restore points? What I'd like to do is create a manual restore point & name it, say, "Just the way I want it!", delete the restore points previous to the manua

Move a document from an offline printer queue to an online queue?

Running under Vista Home Premium SP2. I have three printers installed: One online that I want to use, one offline that I use only occasionally, and one at my dad's house that I use when I use my PC on his network. The online printer is the default, of course. I'm not sure how I did it, but I have a few documents that went to the wrong printer queues. Assume for the sake of argument that I can't reprint those documents. Is there a way I can transfer them from the wrong queues to the online printer? Why do my display properties suddenly change?

I create PowerPoint presentations at home using my work laptop, then hook the laptop up to the projector at work to run the presentations. When I view everything at home all is well, but once I boot the laptop at work the display changes- everything is large: the desktop icons, the PowerPoint display- everything. This is so strange, I've never seen anything like this. Once display properties are set how can they change in a different environment? Thanks for any help. mccd
