Rollback Media Player 12 to 11 on Win 7
Is it possible to rollback media player 12 to 11?
On Windows 7, MP 12 does not recognize my portable CDrom player and does not
show a Rip tab at all. MP 11 did all that without a problem.
Thank you for your help.

Can I mount a share to a folder and NOT a drive letter?
I am running Windows 7, but this would pertain to earlier versions too.
I have access to a share, I'll call it \\SERVER\Documents. I know how to
mount that to a drive letter. That is not what I want to do. Instead I
want to map it to my C:\Users\username\Documents. Is that even possible?
I have searched online and others have asked this only to be told how to
map to a drive letter. That's NOT what I want.
Thanks,
John

Any ideas? The disk I'm trying to convert is a 60GB 2.5" HDD

Also, how do I create mirrors in Windows Vista? In Windows 7, you
right click on the partition and select "Add Mirror..." from the

Screen saver?
Ok, this is really got me puzzled, and I have no idea where else to turn.
It seems for maybe the past couple of weeks it seems that sometimes the
screen saver doesn't kick in.
When the time for the monitor just goes right to sleep it does. W/o the
screensaver kicking in, or after it
runs maybe a minute.
The odd thing is after I go and check the power settings, which all look
fine, it works as it should. I have
tried different screen savers as well as changes the timers. I don't know
if this is from 1 numerous amt.

Question about clb.dll error
I was trying to access regedit and I got an error message that there is
something wrong with clb.dll. Most of the 'fixes' say that I need to go
back to a restore point before I installed 'the' program that caused the
problem. Well, since I have no idea when this started, I'm not going to
try to go back to a restore point. I did read that you can copy the dll
file from another computer and replace the one that's not working.
Is the clb.dll from XP going to work in Vista? I was thinking of
copying the file from my work pc (XP Pro) to my Vista (Home Premium)

Bought a new laptop. it has Vista 64-bit. How compatable are files
Hi. I was using Windows XP on my desktop before. There was some changes I had
to make with the hardware. I am currently on my laptop with Windows Vista

I plan on installing XP or Windows 7 hopefully this weekend. But since it
may take longer than expected: I do have certain files I transfered from my
old hard-drive in an external hard-drive enclosure through my laptop onto an
external hard-drive.
I was wondering if I edit the files, the rtf files (rich text files) or the
mp3 metadata for instance: Will it be a problem when those files get
re-introduced into a 32-bit

HP Color Laserjet 3500 on LPT1 will not print
I changed laptops in a docking station and used a drivers CD to install the
printer which was attached. Test pages and anything else I try to print
goes into the print queue but never prints, finally showing an error. I
downloaded the latest drivers from HP and installed them, but this hasn't
fixed the problem. The original laptop still prints fine from that docking
station.
The old laptop was WinXP, this one is Vista. I ran the "FixIt" diagnostics

Any suggestions for diagnosing and fixing this problem?

BCD error...
I'm trying to revive an HP Pavilion a1730n that won't boot, due to not
being able to read the boot configuration data.
From what I've read, alot of the fixes are based off of booting from
the Vista DVD & chosing a repair option.
This didn't come with a Vista DVD, I justr have the recovery disks you
can create, but using them looks like it wants to wipe out & install
from scratch, which is my last option!
I have a docking station & can access the drive from another computer.
Is there a way I can fix, repair or replace the BCD file that way?

disable "smart" select
This function is just driving me nuts, so is there any way to disable
the smartselect/highlight stuff like when you click on some text hold
down the left mousebutton and drag the mouse to mark a potion of the
text. Instead of just highlighting it character by character it auto
marks who words and stuff instead, really annoying.

Windows Easy Transfer won't load files?
I ran Windows Easy Transfer on my laptop with Windows 7 RC1 to save and move
my profile data because Win 7 RC is shutting down. I am trying to install the
Windows Easy Tranfer data to Windows Vista Business. Each time I try it won't
read the file but keep asking for the drive with the data to be loaded. I
tried a test by moving the the data (.MIG) files out of the folder I saved
them to and put them in the root of the drive but that didn't help. I tried a

Win 7 HDMI and poor text clarity
I am not sure if this would be considered a hardware or software issue so I
will double post. Please forgive me.
I am using a 19" HD flat panel TV as an external monitor for my laptop (Win
7). Text was crisp and clear with the RGB connection but when I switched to
HDMI (to get the audio also) the text got pretty blurry (graphics are still
pretty good). I've tried adjusting the resolution, the Clear Type text, and
the Smaller 100% and Medium 125% settings but nothing seems to help. I've
also tried various adjustments on the TV to no avail. Suggestions please.
Thanks... Bo

Vista has slowed down, how to speed up?
Dear All,
I have a trusty laptop running Vista Ultimate with 2 Gb RAM.
When I first got it it ran programmes like Mozilla Firefox and the Office
Suite rapidly, opening the apps quickly when required.
Over time programmes began to slow down upon opening. I also tried the new
Windows 7 which was OK but had a few drawbacks.
So I bit the bullet and re-set my machine back to how it was when it was
new.
Reloaded my apps and data files, speed returned.
Now it's slowing up again after only 4 months.
Question: do these proprietary programs like Norton etc actually clean up

Can't access newsgroups other than Microsoft
Hi,
Sorry about cross posting, but after reading my question you'll see why it
was necessary.
Where I live, the only newsgroup which I can access is on Microsoft's
server; no other newsgroups are offered thru any ISPs (because of POLITIKAL
considerations).
I know that Google offers browser-based newsgroup review and posting, but
its interface is far from the convenience of a traditional newsreader such
as Windows Mail, Outlook Express etc.
Does anyone know of a way to get around this and access a server by a
something like Windows Mail?

Printer spooler error
Whilst I appreciate your reply Stan, it is somewhat akin to gloating that
you are superior.
Whilst I am sure that you are more than able to argue your point to the Nth
degree, there are I am sure many others who would disagree.
I do not really have a point of view.
What I have, I have to deal with, it is too late to start wishing I had
different equipment. I have a problem, I have asked for advice. There is
little point arguing whether 64 bit is worse than 32 bit as is the AMD Intel
argument.
The best advice you give is to wait until someone with knowledge of the

Bright and washed out looking Office documents inc IE
Hi, my Office docs, inc Outlook and even the pages on IE have suddenly
appeared washed out and a lot brighter. It is making my eyes strain and the
blue wording you often see on IE pages such as on forums, is faint now, at
least the small words that are often to the side of boxes etc.
I did a system restore and that came back as successful but there was no
change to the bright pages, they are still bright and washed out.
All of the boxes for instance in Outlook at the bottom left of the screen,
are all bright and washed out, everything is.
I've not been fiddling with but

The subject says "on desktop" only because I haven't looked for signs of
this problem elsewhere yet. The problem seems to manifest itself in
different ways. I'll describe the most obvious way, and if there's no
response, I'll try to describe other symptoms as best I can; although the
more I experiment, the more it's starting to look as though I'm zeroing in
on something -- I know not what.
After a Restart, a single-click on one of my desktop icons will highlight
that icon, but it will also highlight the bottom-rightmost (BR) icon. This

Now every time I click on "contacts", the "my documents" folder opens up

My Contacts folder (which is empty) is still in the "user files" folder.
However, I cannot open Contacts by a shortcut or within the Windows mail.
