offline files, windows 7 and SBS 2003

  • Follow

I believe i am having a conflict between SBS 2003 and windows 7 offline
folder redirection.

I have a test laptop running win 7 ultimate (64).... and i am so frustrated
with my offline folders issues (default my documents redirection to SBS 2003)

When at work (on the network) i am able to view all my documents, no issues.
I run the sync manager and it tells me i have completed the sync.

The problem occurs at random when i leave the office, when logging into the
laptop sometimes i can access the offline folder for a while, but eventually
when accessing the folder it is empty, nothing there. When i come back to
work and log in, i am able to access the folder again.

I have erased the user, reset the offline DB, and even last week I
reformatted the laptop and did a fresh install, only to experience the same
issue again.

This leads me to believe there is some conflict between SBS 2003 and
offline folder redirection in windows 7..... and i have no idea how to fix
it. Any ideas?

I currently have a Win7 Ultimate 64bit connected to a SBS2003 Server
and I do not have this issue.
Offline/Online I can see my files/folders

The only thing I can think of that would mean that you don't see files.
is that you are either out of space, be it permissions on the server.
Or the PC out of space to hold the files.

If it was the server, you should get an error saying can't save files.

Since you say you don't get that.

It sounds like your PC is not set up to allow that much OFFLINE Files.
To change this.

Open up Sync Center in Control Panel
Click on "Manage Offline Files" on the left

Select TAB "Disk Usage"

and see if you have allowed enough space on your Laptop for the files.
If not click "Change Limits"

Button and adjust

I agree with Russ, and I'd also do the following, especially if you find
that there is space available for the offline files:

- do a manual sync on the Win7 PC, then disable the network card and
immediately see if you have access to all the files you should
- on the Win7, go to Computer Management and check the log under Event
Viewer -> Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Offline
Files -> Operational. Any errors in there?
- on the SBS, open the properties of the share that contains the redirected
My Docs (the top level share, the one with the sharing icon on the folder).
On the Sharing tab, click Caching, and make sure the option is checked for
"All files and programs... will be automatically available offline" and
"Optimized for performance."

Just in case you're still fighting with this, here's another approach that
just worked for me when I had a different problem. This basically formats
the offline database and eliminates all the settings, as if Offline Files
were in its first run state. After doing this, you have to redo any manual
settings, just as if you'd gotten a new PC. What you're doing is creating a
registry value and rebooting - it does its work in the reboot and deletes
the value. This is Vista or Win7 only.

Did you solve the problem ??? I have the same. The windows xp pc's are
working great. The windows 7 are not working great with sync. When it's not
solved we are not switching to windows 7.
