SBS 2003 Premium -- All Services Packs and Critical Updates.
I am getting CI Service Event ID 4109:
"Master merge was started on c:\system volume information\catalog.wci
because more than 100000 documents have changed since the last master merge."
System significantly slow.
Any fixes.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Thanks for your post.
This kind of error usually occur when is there is anything wrong with Windows Indexing service or the catalog.wci file is corrupted. Catalog corruption commonly occurs due to
unexpected system shutdowns or file contention issues due to Antivirus or backup software. Often the trouble shooting of catalog corruption involves simply stopping and
starting the Index Server. However, sometimes you will need to rebuild the catalog from scratch (stop Index Server, delete or move the contents of the Catalog.wci directory,
and then restart Index).
You may try the following steps to troubleshoot it:
1. Stop the Indexing service.
2. Delete all the files inside the catalog.wci folder.
3. Turn off all anti-virus software on the server if installed. Set the anti-virus services to manual, disabled from the services manager.
4. Go to the anti-virus software properties and exclude the path to this catalog.wci folder. If it has the ability, also exclude the processes called cisvc.exe and cidaemon.exe
as well.
5. Make sure Backup software is disabled during catalog creation.
6. Restart Indexing service
7. Once "Docs to Index" reaches 0, you can again turn on all anti-virus services, and backup services.
8. When you are going to backup the server, stop the Indexing service before backing up, and re-start it after backing up. Make sure not to back up the catalog.wci folder.
