"My Documents" folder redirection

  • Follow

Hi folks,
I have a SBS 2003 server that I am replacing via swing migration with SBS
2008. I'm also going to be replacing a Server 2003 right after I get the SBS
migration complete. The Server 2003 is the recipient of "My Documents"
folder redirection via group policy.
I will be wanting to change that location to the new Server 2008. Do I just
change the group policy pointer, or do I have to "move" the files currently
redirected to a path on the new server and then change the pointer, or
something completely different?

Thanks,
Mike

There is an option in the group policy to move the files when the user logs
in. So, ideally, you'd keep both servers online for a time and let windows
to the file movement. There are other ways, but it gets more complicated and
requires a bit more planning.

Cliff,
Great, I didn't know that. I can do that. I have another server that isn't
real busy, I will just redirect to there. I will look for that option
tomorrow.
Thanks so much!
Mike
