Bare Metal Recovery Issue
Hello,
I have an SBS2008 server running on a whitebox server that I would like
to move to an HP ML350 G5 server. I have been attempting a bare metal
recovery by booting from the SBS2008 cd following the recovery option
then attaching the USB drive afterward selecting the backup and
attempting to recover. I get an error that says the drive selected as
active in the bios is not large enough.
White box server:

2 Sata Drives (1TB drive with a 240 GB partition, 500GB drive with a

System State Backup Fails repeatedly
This is happening on a SBS 2003 Premium Server (SP2 installed).
This has been an ongoing issue since a Raid 1 Array / Controller (Promise
TX2300) has been added to the system. THe old RAID 1 array (Silicon Image)
is still in the system, but the drive letters where changed to higher letters
for the sake of having the ability to copy data from old to new.
THe server appears to function normally other than this problem.
The OS and data was restored to the new new raid array using Windows Backup.
The same original drive letters are still there, just now mapping to the

RWW, VPN, Exchange connection problems
Running SBS2003 on an HP server. 3 PCs used by onsite staff. 4th PC used
for remote access via RWW. Having intermittent connectivity issues. I sign
in remotely using an XP workstation w/RWW. I have another PC that I use to
access Exchange, and occasionally connect with VPN to access files on the
server at the office.
I keep getting dropped on RWW with the error "VBScript Remote Desktop
Disconnected. An internal error has occurred". When that happens, I also
notice that my Oulook client on the other PC shows an error that the
connection to Microsoft Exchange has been lost.

Change external domain details
SBS 2008. I have configured our local domain as "audor.local". However
this has made the external address www.external.audor.org. This is not
our registered public DN. Can I keep the "audor.local" (as I understand
I have to reinstall to do this) and change the means of external access
to our existing www.acdorchester.org without reinstalling?
Note I have not configured anything yet and all clients have not been
added to the server (except for them locking onto the DHCP function and
"audor.local" showing up on the computer properties screen).

SBS 2003 to Standard 2008 transition?
I've got a client wanting to 'breakout' from SBS 2003, but then want to go to
2008 Standard, not 2003 Standard. You used to be able to transition from SBS
2003 to Standard 2003 to get a good discount on migrating your CALs etc.
Is it possible to go straight to Standard 2008, to migrate their CALs and
get the transition discount?

SBS 08:Copy files to USB External HD
This is a simpleton question so I apologize in advance:
Is there a simple interface like Windows explorer in SBS 2008 that we can
"drag and copy" to a USB drive? Our admin tells us that since we are running
a RAID 0 we cannot just copy and past files (or the entire C: drive?) to an
external HD.
Is there any utility that will allow us to copy/paste files from HD to HD?

Physical location of My Docs redirected on client
Where are the physical files in the My Documents folder that are
redirected to the server (SBS 2003) - if you are on the client and
right click on a file it shows the path as \\server\users\...etc But,
it has to physically by somewhere on the hard drive, correct? Because
you can use it offline, so obviously the file is on the drive...
I need to find the actual location of the files please...

In my Exchange Server 2007, I have a D:\ drive where I keep the logs for my
first, second and third storage groups.
My log files have grown tremendously.
In my first storage group folder, I have 8270 files adding up to 8.07Gb.
In my second storage group folder, I have 1210 files adding up to 1.18Gb.
In my third storage group folder, I have 4851 files adding up to 4.73Gb.
Can I just delete these *.LOG files?
They date back many months.
Is there a setting where I can auto-purge them? (Or limit their creation???)
Any help, very appreciated.

SBS 2003 Software VPN
Can someone remind me of what VPN functionallity is built into SBS2003?
For a number of years we have been using Hardware VPNs (which have been very
reliable) that terminate at the Router and also RWW to allow access to
individual workstations from anywhere on the Internet. We now have need to
give a number of others access to shared drives on the network via VPN.
This will be usually from known trusted laptops but it might also be good to
provide occassional VPN access from a public machine if that is possible.

Prevent users drag/dropping directories
Hi All,
We have had a few problems recently whereby some users have accidentally
moved directories from a shared folder, probably by an an unintended drag &
drop. Any suggestions how I can stop them from being able to do that?
It is primarilly the top level or two of directories I want to protect, some
users need to add/remove various sub-directories. I could maybe prevent
complete moving of the directory by stopping them from being able to delete
the directory but they are still able to cut/paste sub directories or files
to elsewhere.

SBS 2008 and Exchange Rollup 9
I have a SBS 2008, Exchange SP2. We are having the well known issue of
Outlook 2007 clients getting that annoying Username/Password prompt about
every 15 min. or so. I have resolved this in the past by installing the
"Exchange Rollup 9" update. According to Microsoft's website, this patch is
for Exchange 2007 SP1. We have Exchange 2007 SP2. Does anyone know if
applying this patch will cause harm, or will this work on SP2? Thanks.

Can not receive Email.. Need Help
Hi all,
Earlier this morning, my exchange server 2007 (hosted on SBS 2008) just
stopped receiving external e-mail. We can send interoffice e-mails and we can
send out e-mails to other locations fine, but we are unable to receive any
e-mail. All internet connections are normal as well, and the port 25 is open
on the firewall.
The error from when we try to send an e-mail to the server is this:
“This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery
to the following recipients failed.”
Earlier today I installed the anti-spam update from MS “Microsoft excha

Change password from desktop does not work
Hi,
Whenever my users try to change their password (ctrl+alt+del > change
password) they are told that their password does not meet the policy
requirements - which is not true. I have tried this on my Vista desktop and
at first it worked. I then tried it again and it wouldn't work, and the
second password was much more complex than the first attempt. So, I tried
to reset my password using the SBS Console to this second password that was
rejected on the grounds of not meeting the complexity policy requirements
and it worked. So obviously this second password was fine, but it was n

BPA Shows Schema upgrade required after ServerTools Run
I just ran ServerTools.msi on a SBS 2003 server in preparation for migration
to SBS 2008. I reran both BPA utilities after the reboot and the Exchange
2007 Readiness test still shows Active Directory Schema Update Required.
ServerTools indicated all processes ran successfully and returned a green
check. I was under the impression ServerTools would take care of the Schema
updates. Can someone tell me what I am missing? Where can I find the logs
for ServerTools?

remote user to access server
I have a remote client who needs to access files on the server. To be
honest, I don=92t really know how to set this up. Can anyone make any
suggestions on how to get this done. I want it to be as simple as
possible for them, and as secure as possible for me.
Thoughts
Give user permission to vpn to server.
Give permission to access necessary files.
Map folder on remote computer to open needed folder

NTBACKUP Cannot access mapped drive..."The Network Share Could Not Be Reached"
I have a client for whom we recently took over the provision of IT
support.
They have Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.
The issue is as follows - they use a Snap Drive (NAS) to store all of
their data files. Every night at 18:00 NTBACKUP is scheduled to back
up the contents of the Snap drive. The Snap drive is accessed by the
server via a mapped drive (S: in this case).
Unfortunately the backup has been failing for the last 2 months (we
took over a week ago). If you try and select the mapped Snap Drive
within NTBACKUP you get the following error:

System Event ID 2510
I just picked up a new client that is running Small Business Server 2003 and
have discovered an annoying error message in the System Event Log that is
posted every 30 seconds. The source is listed as the server name with no
category. It is event ID 2510 and includes the following text ...
The server service was unable to map error code 3007
The server is up-to-date with all MS Updates and all services are running as
they should. I have searched Technet for any information but nothing that
lists that error code. Other 2510 IDs are listed, but with different error
codes.
