SBS 2008 Alerting and Reporting

Hi all, In SBS 2003, I easily setup various log files to include with the daily Monitoring Reports I get emailed to me. In SBS 2008, I have not figured out how to do this. I figured out how to add additional event data/alerts from the event log (via the custom XML files) and I know I can pick/choose different 'sections' of the log to include/ not include (via 'Properties' of the reports). Does anyone know how I can attach log files to the Monitoring Reports? Thanks. Hilde

SBS08, interesting RWW Computer connection interruptions

I have just started to notice a strange difference between RWW on SBS 03 and SBS 08.... SBS 08 opens an SSL window that it states must remain open in order to keep your Computer/Server connection (remote desktop) remotely. By default, most firewall rules have a inactivity time-out period of XX minutes. In this case, the SSL window doesn't have any traffic once the RWW RDP session is created, at least none that I can see. So, unlike SBS 03, when you connect to a computer using RWW in O8, and the SSL timeout is set for 10 minutes on the firewall, you will be disconnected every 1

However, he insisted that this pagefile.sys must move to the Boot partition drive so that if we need to do a OS recovery, we use only the boot partiton for recovery. So my question is, should I configure the Window SBS 2008 System Properties, set the Performance Options, V

SBS2008 Licensing question

I have a strange installation where there are 25 users, but only 4 users will EVER use the 2nd 2008 server with SQL. So I am wondering if I am able to purchase a 20 CAL SBS Standard License pack and add them to the 5 premium licenses that came in the SBS 2008 premium box. This way I would have 25 licenses to access the SBS server, and 5 of the 25 could access the premium services, namely the 2008 server with SQL. Thanks.

SBS2003 + Terminal Server clients unexpected behaviour

Hi, I know this isn't an SBS issue per se but just wondered if anyone here had any idea as to how I could solve this or could perhaps point me to a more relevant forum. We have two Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server's in our office for workers in a branch office to access an application at head office where there is an SBS 2003 based network. Both Terminal Servers were working fine up until very recently. Now on one of them when a user goes into out company accounts/management package and clicks on a template, which I think uses some kind of document automation to op

Shared printers automatically adding themselves

I don't know if this is more appropriate for a SBS, Win XP, Vista, 7, or hardware NG, but I'll start here. We have SBS 2008 using a domain and a mix of clients running XP through 7. We have three network printers plus two USB printers that are shared from their host PCs to the network. My problem is that when I log onto a client and look at the list of printers in control panel I will see - 3 network printers - 3 more copies of the network printers for each client (Brother Printer on PC1, Brother Printer on PC2, etc.) - 2 USB printers on their correct host - 2 more copies of t

Migration from SBS2003 to Full Server 2008

Hi, I currently have an old SBS 2003 (non R2) installation with extra DC's at a couple of remote sites. I want to migrate to full Server 2008R2 with Exchange 2010, and am looking for the best way of acheiving this with minimum downtime. I have considered SBS2008 and EBS 2008 but neither are appropriate for what we need. I was originally thinking of building a new environment exporting all the data copying to the new environment, then manually moving all the PC's over. This would be a big bang approach, and very labour intensive to avoid too much downtime. I am now w

Vista Business, SBS 2008 & mapped drives...

One of my users has a vista business laptop that is not a member of the domain. I have mapped drives for her, that are using her domain account, but these have been nothing but problems. When booting up, she will get a message about some drives not being available & will have to mount them manually, but recently it has gotten to the point of the laptop will prettty much lock up when at the point of trying to map the drives. I have hoped that once I join her laptop to the domain, this should smooth out. Of course, she hasn't had the time to give up her laptop to do this, so I've kind

Text/Input Boxes not appearing - Sharepoint

Morning, I have many workstations now not displaying text boxes/content boxes within sharepoint (2003 SBS version). Any other site will display forms but not sharepoint. This does not seem to effect all machines and seems to have nothing to do with permissions as i have tried with all types of users. I have tried changing all the security settings with no luck either. I have also tried in many different browsers. Is there something simple im overlooking? Here is a link to a screenshot, as you can see the only thing that appears is the assign to drop down, nothing else.

SBS 2008 Stuck Applying Computer Settings

Did anyone ever figure out exactly why WFBS 6.0 caused SBS 2008 to hang at "Applying Computer Settings" on a reboot? I was troubleshooting backup issues and this nonsense got thrown in my face. I've tried making the WFBS services dependent upon the spooler service, but it's still hanging. I DID NOT DISABLE IPv6! (sorry, it's well past my bedtime)

Router for SBS2008

I have been using sbs2003 with 2-nic / ISA configuration. I am now upgrading to new server and sbs2008. I realize I need to get a router. We have 14 workstations on the LAN and 6 more people work from home full time currently using XP VPN. Just about everyone uses OWA and/or RWW from time to time when not in the office. My question is this. I am looking at Cisco RV042, because I want 2 WAN ports to add a second DSL and balance remote users, but there are VPN tunnel limits. Am I going to just open ports my router firewall and SBS takes care of the rest or do I need to be co

POP3 Connector marking messages as read

Is there a way to keep the POP3 Connector from marking the messages as read on the POP3 server? I'm using it to check my home e-mail at work independently of Outlook. If my home PC happens to be turned off it is unable to retrieve messages that the connector has already downloaded. Is there any way to get around this short of using Outlook to check the messages instead? Thanks, Casey

how to deliver pop3 emails to public folder using pop3 connector

Can someone provide me with a link on how to get pop3 connectors to deliver to a public folder using SBS2003 (not R2)? Currently the pop3 connector is delivering to a users mailbox but I want it to deliver to an exchange public folder. The pop3 connector is getting mail from me@here.com from our ISP. I have setup a public folder in system manager with an exchange address of me@here.com. My default recipient policy has an SMTP entry of "@here.com". I know there has got to be an easy to follow document out there somewhere but I cant seem to run across it in my searching.

SBS2008 Monitor internet usage

I have SBS2008 std and would like to monitor the internet bandwidth used by users on the SBS network. As there are many hardware and software solutions available, I seek the simplest to implement with a report of usage and the users responsible. Managed switches is one solution. Which switch will be the simplest to implement in this senario with the report? Firewalls, proxy servers, etc. This all get confusing. There is a product called Cisco Network Magic. This seem to be what I am looking for but am not sure whether this will work on SBS2008. I don't mind spending on ha
