How to play WTV on Vista?
My Media Center is Windows 7, and it records in .WTV format. I'd like to
play those files on a Vista laptop. There was originally a Vista add-on
from Microsoft called TV Pack, which can play those files. However, I
cannot find this add-on anywhere on Microsoft's web site, only updates
for it.
My video files are not locked, just standard analog cable. Is there any
way to play them on a 64-bit Vista Home Premium?
Thanks!

The TV Pack isn't available as a download. However, you should be able to right
click the WTV file in Windows 7 in Windows Explorer and select convert to
DVR-MS.

Barb, thanks, but that doesn't help. She doesn't want Win 7 because it
doesn't work right with World of Warcraft (yet). So Microsoft never made
the TV Pack available? I seem to remember beta testing it...

The TV Pack was OEM only.
You said you had W7 and wanted to play on a Vista laptop. You need to convert
them as I described. Then she can play on Vista. Am I missing something here
other than there is no way to do this without converting?

It is only for OEM installers, so it won't be on available on Microsoft
downloads.

Take a look at this site -- http://www.hack7mc.com/ -- and see if something
like wtv watcher might help you.

I guess I got hit with the stupid stick...it didn't register that I
should convert to dvr-ms on the Media Center box before copying to
Vista...I was not thinking correctly. Thanks!
And to think I went out and bought a WTV->MPG converter program an hour
ago. Sigh. Maybe I should just go upstairs and go back to bed...
Thanks!
