More problems with my messages missing I'd like to revisit an earlier thread (which will have scrolled off your screen by now). Messages I post to usenet newsgroups using WLM are sometimes not appearing when I view the thread. This problem is intermittent: most of my posts show up, but some don't. I've switched off the "community support features", I've unchecked the "Get n headers at a time" option, and I've tried quitting and restarting WLM. My missing post is showing in the 'Sent items' folder, and I can see it using Google Groups. Rip CDs After switching from Vista to Win 7, when I place a CD in the CD drive, the RIP view of media center (12) does not appear and no ripping occurs. Top of window is off screen I get this problem once every 7 years and can't remember the solution. Screensaver Anyone know if it's possible to run a slide show of photos in Media Center as screensaver? Email announcement on user account page I am running Windows XP. My ISP is Comcast. My Windows user account page--the one that displays my user icon, and where I enter my password--has started displaying a message about the contents of one of my email accounts at Comcast. This is a new account that I set up a couple of days ago as a sender address when using Word '07's email merge function. Mail merge is working just fine, but I've never before seen in Windows an announcement about the contents of my Comcast mailboxes. I don't know what I did to set it up, and I'd like to get rid of it. CD Question I have a computer with win xp on it and it has a virus. I am trying to download the rescue disk from Avira. I saved it to the blank cd I have in my burner and everything looks ok. Recording Level I have a one-off need to make a digital recording to preserve what's on an ancient cassette. In the past, I've plugged a lead from the stereo output of my cassette deck into the sound card of my old desktop PC (running Windows 98) and recorded direct to MP3. The result has been fine, although a bit quiet. Unfortunately, that PC is kaput, and I've tried something similar with a laptop, having downloaded WavePad. Windows 7 Upgrade First I stopped at Frys and picked up a 1TB network drive from Omega. Boy, is storage cheap these days. I could have got more capacity with a USB drive, but my current policy is to buy only network devices, printers, etc. I am very happy with this drive, I didn't even bother installing their software, just figured out the ip address from my router's log and connected to it. I very quickly started storing all my old dvd and dvr- ms files. I might go buy another one for the whole family to use. I got the Windows 7 upgrade for $109 at Sam's Club. Service Pak 3 problems I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334 running XP Media Center 2002. About a week ago I began having blue screen errors and eventually BSOD. I paid about $400 to retrieve my data, upgrade the hardisk to 360 from 120 and put my data back on the new disk. When I got home I began reinstalling all of my programs. Windows update was doing its thing and then I lost sound on my Realtek High Def....then blue screens began happening. I tried unstalling the (code 39) missing or corrupt Audio drivers and reinstalling, to no avail. Two network - One Domain controller My Network configuration is as follows: 192.168.2.1-192.168.2.255 (Subnetmask - 255.255.255.0 ) 192.168.3.1-192.168.3.255 (Subnetmask - 255.255.255.0 ) I have only one Domain controller with two NIC cards. One NIC card is connected to 192.168.2.0 Network(via one switch) and other NIC card is connected to 192.168.3.0 network (via another switch). Will this one server serve as DC for two networks ? When I use "search" in xp, it cannot find files, even tho there I have tried to use "search" to find specific words in files or specific words in filenames. But generally, search doesn't work. I end up trying to find the file myself. in all my drives, which sometimes takes awhile. Is there some target file(s) for search that might be incorrect? I really need to be able to use this program. WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 11 The Sync button not working. The first time I plug my HTC phone, I was able to sync my audio file to my phone. Now... the "start sync" button don't work. info.exe Hi. I just installed an Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive. With it came EMC Retrospect Express backup software. I used the Retrospect and sometime late in the process, it failed to complete. There was an error message that mentioned that process failed and data may have been lost. It did mention something about an info.exe file. Since then, in My Computer, when I try to open the C: drive, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot find Info.exe. Make sure you have typed the name correctly ..." Bottom line is I cannot open the C: drive through My Computer. WMC Remote Question I have WMC 6.1, Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and use a Linksys DMA2100 to play exclusively music files on my computer, I had lost the small remote which came with the Linksys, and replaced it with a =93MCE Remote Control andRreceiver for Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate=94=94. It woks fine for controlling the extender and operating WMC. But according to the enclosed instructions, the remote should also be able to =93learn=94 the commands to operate the TV=92s volume, mute, and on= / off controls=94. Linksys MCE Extender - Digital HD TV Does anyone know if there is some way of converting Digital TV so that it can be played on an MCE2005 extender. I like MCE 2005, but ever since I switched over to an HD TV tuner I have been unable to play live and recorded TV over my Linksys extenders. Folder keeps setting to read only Basics: Windows 7 Professional, Win 7 has been running on this machine for months with no similar issue, last night for the first time I decided to give WMC a go and I added my video and music libraries to it. Other software running: Windows Live Sync keeps this particular directory synced between my desktop and notebook. I was also at that instant downloading a movie from Youtube to the directory. About a minute after I added this folder to WMC the youtube video downloader aborted with an error saying it couldn't write to the directory. Replacing a remote control I have Windows MediaCenter v 6.1.7600.16385 running on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer. I purchased and installed a Linksys DMA2100 extender, which I used exclusively to play from a library of ripped CD tracks. So far, so good. Then a minor disaster destroyed the remote which came with the Linksys extender. I called Linksys and learned that they don=92t sell a standalone replacement remote. How to play WTV on Vista? My Media Center is Windows 7, and it records in .WTV format. I'd like to play those files on a Vista laptop. There was originally a Vista add-on from Microsoft called TV Pack, which can play those files. However, I cannot find this add-on anywhere on Microsoft's web site, only updates for it. Infopage Class Media Center Edition 2005 Service Pack 3 I noticed that in my Control Panel there's a folder called InfoPage Class. If I try to open it(double click), it won't open and the icon will become transparent. If I right click, there are 3 options, Delete, Create Shortcut and Cut. MEDIACENTER KEEPS LOSING INTERNET CONNECTION Vista Ultimate version recently for the last 3 weeks or so keeps losing internet connection. Can't uninstall media extender on Windows 7 I got my PC Media Center and my Xbox360 media extender somehow out of sync with each other. In other words the WMC's don't seem to see each other. It seems the easiest thing for me to do, would be to uninstall the Media Extender from the PC Media Center. Windows XP 64 - Blue Screen of Death - no event logging? Hi all, So I have set Event logging with small memory dump in XP 64 bit, in the System Properties/Startup & Recovery, in order to diagnose a BSOD in win32k.sys, page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. Unfortunately, when my PC blue screens, no event is written, and no minidump appears in the minidump folder. I have tried this both with letting the PC reboot automatically, and without. XP Not shutting down Hi hopefully I can get some help here on this. I'm rnning and old Emachine desktop w/ OS XP and recently when I go to shut it down it does not want to shut down. Just hangs. So I eventually shut it down from the power button on the tower, but I want to shut it down properly. What could be the cause of this and how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. WMC, Vista, Ripped DVDs not playing Vista home premium, Media Center... I have a few dozen DVDs that I have ripped to an external hard drive... but Media Center errors out when I try to play them... but does indeed play ripped DVDs if they are located on the primary hard drive... .... obviously have done the regedit hack to "ShowGallery" to Gallery, etc... and all DVDs are ripped region free... Is this a bug in Media Center not able to play DVD media on external drives (i have several AVIs on external drive which Media Center does indeed play)? Or is there another tweak that can be done? How do I enable Backup Wizard Hi, I have backed up my computer to my external hard drive several times before by going to control panel, performance & maintenence, backup data - at which point the Wizard pops up. Today when I click 'backup data" I get the little hour glass for a few seconds but the Wizard screen never comes up. I have tried going through Start - accesories- system tools - backup - but still nothing. If the Wizard was somehow disabled, how can I reenable it. My system is Windows xp media center version 2005. Problem with WMC for Win7 x64 -- live TV setup problem When I try to setup WMC (Win7 x64) for live TV it goes through the region setting question, then the zip code, then when it goes to "configuring" it hangs. I got a tip to run "mcupdate.exe" from another forum to overcome the hanging. Blue Screen - Stop: Error Machine says a problem has occured and has shut windows down to prevent damage to computer. followed by page_fault_in_Nonpaged_area? svchost.exe application error 0x00b42740 Hi, I reformated my pc last week and after installing Symantec antyvirus and windows defender task manager sometimes it shows CPU usage of over 95% even when wasn't running anything. I uninstalled both programs and it seem to have fixed the problem. But now there is a svchost.exe - application error. issue installing sp3 on XP I needed to replace a hard drive and would like to install SP3 on my XP computer. I am having issues with it not booting after allowing it to install. i want to remove the download that came through Automatic Updates - but do not know where to find it so I can manually download the file because the Windows update keeps detecting that it is downloaded and I want a fresh download so I can make sure I have all filtering programs turned off when downloading to rule out that being a problem with the installation because of the possibility of it not downloading it correctly. Rollup 2 Won't Install. All I am trying to do is link up my Xbox 360 with my Laptop to use the Media Centre that I have installed on my computer. Is there any way to set Windows Media Center to record TV from a particular start time to a particular stop time, when these are not part of the normal scheduled programming in the Guide? Aquarium Screen saver improvements The aquarium screen saver that ships with XP Media Center is good, but the fish don't seem quite realistic enough. I realized it's because they don't exhibit any feeding behaviors. The screen saver should feed them periodically, it is relaxing and pleasant to see fish eat. Switching between multiple open windows I ran across an option to change how to switch between multiple open windows on my desktop. It was an option to choose between hovering over a window or clicking on it. Thinking that only having to hover over a window to switch to it would save time, I selecting the option to hover... big mistake as it just became a big pain in the a_ _ for me. Now I would like to change back to one-clicking to change between viewed windows but can't remember or find where the option is located. I used to have vista ultimate and this worked fine. It was very easy to set up. I just right clicked on hard drive c and shared it. I enabled the media streaming in media player and told it to share the c drive as well as a few individual folders. My ps3 and xbox 360 worked fine just from that. I would go to the myxbox pane on it and select video. AIW 9000 and MCE2005 - Media Center is not working I have dell PC (Dimension 4600) with ATI 9000 readon card. Recently I have upgraded my OS from MCE 2004 to MCE 2005. missing signals from a few channels I had a virus on the computer, i had to use the f10 system recovery to take the computer back to system defaults. my problem is i'm trying to set the media center up again. MediaCenter freezes / hangs for one and a half minute I reinstalled my MediaCenter-PC some weeks ago from Vista to Windows 7 Enterprise. Works mostly fine, and feels good. One thing I have problem with is that it freezes periodicly when watching pictures. The scenario is when I go into Pictures and videos, browse to a directory, and clicks on a pic the screen goes black. If I wait for about one - one and a half minute, it shows the pic, and then I can continue look att the others pics in the dir. If I go back and go into another directory it often goes fine, and I can look. AlbumArt When I rip a CD to my HD using Media Player, the album art gets transferred properly along with the mp3s. However, if I search the directory only the mp3 files show up, but not the jpg files. If I search the same directory from linux the jpg files are listed. How can I get XP to list all the files? Access is Denied upgrading to XP SP3 Executing the upgrade from the administrator account. All other programs shut down. Upgrade runs fine .. checks system, backs up, installs new files. When it goes to upgrade the registry I get "access is denied". Rebooted computer. Ran RegCure to clean up registry. Now registry has no problems known to RegCure. Rebooted computer. Blank blue screen NOT BSOD About 5% of the time, a recording with have a blank blue screen, not a BSOD, with normal audio. Sometimes the video will re-appear 2 minutes in the recording but most of the time it won't. I have tried to update the driver for the tuner but none is available (HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner). As far as the other drivers, everything appears to have the latest driver available. The video card is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP. It's an HP Pavilion laptop dv5000 (5140ca) with 2GB RAM, AMD Turion ML37 processor 2.0GHz. A search on the internet has not turned out any solutions. Back in Canada, Again Hello, My os is Vista. Whenever I click on internet tv, I get a message indicating "internet tv is not available in Canada." Why WMC thinks I am in Canada is a mystery. I have checked the date, time and region options in Vista, they all are set for United States. I have also run WMC' setup numerous times, no change. "burn cd/DVD" option is missing from Tasks The "burn CD/DVD" option has gone missing from Tasks. I have a DVD burner installed & have tried loading a writable DVD, just in case that would make it appear. I am running Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit. A few weeks ago this option was there (the computer is ~4 weeks old and I remember seeing the option when I was first learning how to use WMC) but now it is not. During the time between seeing the option and not seeing the option I have not done any updates. I have just installed all the latest updates but this has not fixed the problem. Windows XP SP3 Remote Desktop I have multiple employee's that remote desktop into a computer that is kept in my server room. The problem I am having is that they never know when someone else remoted into the machine so they decide to connect and end up disconnecting the other person. Is there a way to stop that? Xbox 360 extender keeps dropping off and is very slow The connection wizard went fine, it loaded all my photos, music, videos etc Once that was all done, the system lags really badly and keeps loosing the connection. If you wait long enough to navigate the menus it will play a video ok but it takes forever to get that far. Pictures normally crash it. Adding Cable Box When I purchased my computer, I recieved a tv tuner card already installed in my computer. I finally added a cable box to my computer, I did everything correct when hooking up. The problems come when i am trying to change the channels with my media center remote. I get all the way up to the step that says trying inputing a station you have with three digits, and I try it, but it doesn't automatically change like it should. I have to use the remote that came with my cable box, and press the channel or use the guide, but I can't just use my media center remote like I should. Need to Change Hosts File Running Windows XP SP3. Computer recently got infected. Found trace of virus in the HOSTS file. It will not let me make changes to the HOSTS file or delete it. I compared Hosts file characteristics with another computer that is not infected. On the clean computer it is classified as a File compared to a System File on the infected plus the attribute is set for Read-Only on the infected. Unable to view my movies in Media Center I have ripped movies into Media Center. But now, can not access through Media Center. I can only view them by going to the drive they are stored on. However, all files are now TS files, so cannot view movies with Media Center only Nero. When I select open with Media Center files do not covert and movie will not play with Media Center. I got message prior to this error my computer had updates and to install. I installed them, which caused errors.
