Update - Microsoft Responds to the Evolution of Community
What is Happening?
This message is to inform you that Microsoft will soon begin discontinuing
newsgroups and transitioning users to Microsoft forums.
Why?
As you may know, newsgroups have existed for many years now; however, the
traffic in the Microsoft newsgroups has been steadily decreasing for the
past several years while customers and participants are increasingly finding
solutions in the forums on Microsoft properties and third party sites. This
move will unify the customer experience, centralize content, make it easier
for active contributors to retain their influence, mitiga

distorted picture display while fixing
I am using Windows 7 and a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285 graphics card with the
latest WHQL driver.
Sometimes, while "fixing" a picture in WLPG the display of the picture gets
completely distorted, looking like some address lines in the graphics buffer
get shifted.
When I close the picture all looks ok again.
No, my graphics card is not broken, anything else works. (Videos, 3D Games
and such)
Has anyone seen this behavior?

WLPG and "set as desktop background" problem
I have asked the same question several month ago.
Is anyone experiencing the same problem?
When I use WLPG to set my wallpaper, it is not shown or it is gone after a
reboot.
I was able to verify the problem on several Windows XPsp3 systems.
I saw it first on my XP desktop, then I installed several virtual XP systems
which showed the same problem.
If I set the wallpaper using the same file, but another tool (XNview or
anything else) it works and it stays.
Only if I set the wallpaper with WLPG it does not appear or not stay.
If I right click on the desktop, select "properties" t

upload problems
the only way i can upload pictures is via firefox and thats just 5 at a
time. if i try to bulk upload via ie8 it'll hang after about 2 pictures.
have mentioned this in the feedback. its time consuming via firefox but at
least they go up quickly and i don't have to mess around putting them back
in order. is there ftp i can use to make it quicker. i'm starting to get a
bit fed up with it now, to the point i'm thinking of maybe going to a pay

All in One Printer defaults to "fax"??
This happens when we try to print from WLPG. If we catch it and change
printer designation without the "fax" we can print pictures on the printer.
Would like to change the default setting away from the fax machine.
Anybody know if it can be done, and how to do it?
Thanks,
Mike

WLPG thumbnail cache and Windows 7
I really like WLPG. I use it to manager over 30000 pictures.
But the thumbnail caching drives me crazy.
I noticed that WLPG and Explorer share the same thumb-cache in W7.
Ok by me, but there seems to be a size limit.
As soon as all the thumb db files reach about 4GB all together, they get
moved in a "to be deleted" folder and after reboot they are all gone.
So I have no chance to keep the indexes for all my pictures, because the 4GB
cache limit gets reached when about 25000 pictures are indexed.
This is annoying.
Any ideas?

Slideshow performance
Recently my slideshow performance in Live Photo Gallery has degraded. It is
very choppy and slow. I am using the same hardware as before, when it worked
well. I have rerun WinSAT to update the performance score. I have
reinstalled Photo Gallery, I have created WinSATScore in the slideshow
registry key and set it at 500 and at 300. No difference. I am able to play
all of my games like Call of Duty, Fear, Far Cry, etc at high resolution
with no problems. Does anyone have any ideas why my slideshow performance
sucks when it used to run very smoothly?

Can't save edited pictures in Windows Photo Gallery
In Windows Photo Gallery Problem:
My computer suffered a crash and HP tech Support had me recover the
hard drive which caused me to lose all my pictures. They set the
computer back to OEM status-- I lost everything.
Now, with new pictures in my "Gallery," when I edit a picture (crop,
color, re-eye or whatever) and then save the picture, Gallery comes up
with an error:
Changes to this picture can't be saved because Photo Gallery
has experienced a problem. There is an "OK" in the box to check.
I click on the OK and the picture is the same as before the edit.

moving photos in wlpg
A friend of mine has imported her photos into her new laptop at c:\users\pictures instead of wlpg.
When I look at her wlpg program, they are listed below the "normal" wlpg files as I imported some photos last night as I do it myself, i.e.create a tag and then drag and drop into a named file as normal.
I guess what I am trying to do is consolidate all her pictures into her wlpg program as above but can I move these other pictures safely and how would I do it.
Hope you all understand what I am trying to say !!

Frustrated by hierarchical tags
Both WLPG and Adobe Lightroom claim to support hierarchical (nested)
tags. Both do, to a degree, but implementation is only half-baked. In
particular, both "flatten" the hierachy under certain conditions. I
can almost understand the lack of cooperation between the two
companies, but Microsoft gets it wrong even within WLPG.
Create a set of hierarchical keywords and apply them to JPG and DNG
files. Both *appear* to support the hierarchical tags, even as far as
hovering the mouse over the tags in the "Info" pane, and seeing the
"/" character that separates the levels within the tags.

Availability for Commercial Use?
Hi,
I would love to know if there would be any complications with
deploying Live Photo Gallery in an office environment?
If anyone could point me at any licensing information in regards to
the software I would appreciate it.
Also could somebody qualify how you attain the MSI for deployment
directly from a Microsoft download source that'd be ace too; I found
somebody seems to have it here (http://messengergeek.spaces.live.com/

there's a way of pulling this installer from a first party site for

deleting original pictures
Hello,
the way WLPG treats "original pictures" is not bad.
But how to I clean up my "original pictures" folder?
Simply deleting the oldest pictures is not a good way.
I found that originals do not get deleted automatically when I delete the
corresponding picture in the gallery.
It would be nice to have at least 2 features:
1. Delete original on demand with a click. This button should be in the
somwhere in the file or edit menu in the gallery.
2. Cleanup, automatically delete all originals where no corresponding
picture in any gallery exists anymore.
The other question is: How

Synchronize tags for multiple computers
Is there a way to export the full list of tags from one instance of
WLPG so they can be imported into another instance?
I have defined a list of tags on one computer to match a list of tags
that I've used for a long time in Adobe Photoshop Album. Not all the
tags are presently assigned to photos, but I want them available to be
used. (It's a big backlog of photos to process after switching to
WLPG.)
After transferring the photo files to another computer, the only tags
visible on the list of tags are those that are actually in use. So I
would like to transfer the "master list of t

Help with face tagging
Not sure whether I understand what this is *supposed* to do, or
whether I am expecting too much. Can somebody offer any insight...
1. My guess is that WLPG created rectangles around faces for about
10-20% of the photos in which faces occur. In no cases did it actually
apply names to those faces. I can understand this happening for a new
installation, when there were no names defined, but is that the way it
is supposed to operate over the long term? In other words, does WLPG
have the capability of distinguishing one face from anther and then
applying the correct tag? I have seen contr

Select photos by orientation?
Is it possible to select photos by orientation? I have 1000's of
photos that were imported with a different software, and that simply
oriented the thumbnail. The original portrait photos are displayed
incorrectly in WLPG, and I would like to rotate them. It's a PITA to
select them individually for rotation.
I understand that I can apply the correct orientation for new files as
they are imported, but these files already exist on the HD.
