Subfolders in Outlook Express and Sent Folder didn't export

  • Follow

I just upgraded to windows & from Vista. I downloaded Windows Live for my
email program. It exported my contacts and my inbox but not any subfolders I
had created and my sent folder. I really need those emails. How do I
recover them?

Windows 7 doesn't have an email client, thus WLM can't directly import anything from Windows 7.

Are the folders present in WLM under Storage Folders/Imported folders ?
 - if the Storage folders are not present enable them for viewing(WLM Menu/View/Layout/Folder Pane/Show Storage folders)
 - if the WLM menu is not present, press the Alt key(toggles on/off) or click Show Menu on the square icon to the right of the '?'
on the toolbar

If the folders/messages are not present in the Storage folders/Imported folders and are present on your Windows 7 machine in your
user profile's Windows Mail folder(when viewing in Windows Explorer)...then create the folders in WLM in the account or the Storage
folders(latter is recommended), then drag and drop the messages(not folders) from Windows Explorer to the location in WLM.
- Note: If you have a large volume of messages, do it methodically a few at a time to ensure WLM has time to rebuild its index.
Interrupting the index process is a 'no no' since it can cause corruption. Take your time.

The old files are saved in windows.old when you upgrade. It is a hidden
file.
