Sorting the "TO" Address List

  • Follow

My older PC runs XP and Outlook Express. I've entered different 2 Digit
Numbers in the Home Telephone Column of the OE Address Book and sort by
those Numbers. This allows the "TO" Address Screen to be set in a non
alphabetical Sequence with the most often used ones on Top. On my new
W-7 PC using Windows Live Mail I have not found a way to sort the "TO"
Screen none alphabetically other then putting Numbers in front of the
Name. This works ok, but the Recipient sees the Number as part of his
Name. I would be thankful for any Hints or Suggestions. Helmut

My accounting software like Windows Live Mail brings up a list of names when
you start typing. Three or four letters generates a short list.

I put a number in Notes, then sorted by Notes. You can use the same number
or numbers in sequence.

To expand on Ron's reply, my suggestion would simply be 'don't use the To:
list to address messages'. The 'sequential search' functionality of the
address fields is a much more efficient way of addressing messages than
scrolling through a list. In the current version, you can start typing a
nickname, first name, last name, company, e-mail address or a word in the
Notes field to see matches. The more characters you type, the shorter the
list of matches. It takes a bit of practice, but once you're used to it, you
won't go back to scrolling.

One additional point: when you open a compose window (New or Forward), focus
is already in the To: box - you don't even have to click anywhere before
starting to type your contact data.
