Sign In stopped working -- Help

Live was working fine until 2/29/10. Now Windows Live mail Desktop will not
send or receive mail. “Sign in” shows in the upper right corner. When I
click Sign In (upper right) then “Sign in” box in the sign in pop-up I get
“Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time.
Please try again later”.

I can access my mail on MSN web (Same address and PW).

Hmmm - since there is no 2/29/10 this year, and since today is only 2/28/10,
I'm not sure what to say . . . . .

Have you tried restarting your PC ? What happens exactly when you've
restarted the PC and clicked on the WLMail icon - did you get the Windows
Live sign-in and did you sign-in to that? Then you would get the individual
mail account sign-in(s) - are you getting error messages on those? If so,
please copy and paste the entire error message(s).

Can you logon to your account at both account.live.com and mail.live.com ?
 - Yes ? /No ?

Since that sign in option is not relevant to WLM's ability to Send or Receive Mail can you send/receive mail with that msn account
in WLM ?

Yes it was 26 not 29th.
PC was restarted several times.
whin I do the first login I get:

"Unable to send or receive messages for the Live (xxx.hxxxxd) account.
Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please
try again later.

Subject 'Re: How observant are you?'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820 "

For the second log-in I only get:

"Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time.
Please try again later. "

I can log in at both account.live.com and mail.live.com. At mail.live.com I
receive current mail and can send mail.

When I open Windows Love Mail I see mail up to 2/25 and if I try to send
mail it stays in the out box.

If i uninstall the application and re-download/install, are my contacts and
history saved/relinked?

If signing on with a Live ID in WLM then those contacts are present locally(in a database only accessible by WLM or WLMsgr) and
also on the web server at contacts.live.com. Check to see if they are present at contacts.live.com

If you are not signing on with a Live ID in WLM, then contacts are only stored locally and must be backed up to a csv file.

Check your settings for username and password in the account and also in the sign in assistant(the windows that pops up when
signing in).
Each should contain the full username and domain
e.g. yourusername@msn.com (if msn, if not then hotmail.com or live.com etc)

History is a function unique to Internet Explorer. WLM doesn't have a history.

What version of WLM are you using ?
 - to determine your version....on the WLM Menu click Help/About Microsoft Windows Live Mail. If the menu is not present, press the
Alt key to toggle it on.

Same issue, no new email on desktop on 3/11/10, but able to get on via
browser.

Is WLM's system b0rken?

"b0rken"? How did you get that accepted by spell check? :-)

Who is your mail service provider?
What happens when you send an email message to yourself?
Do you get an error message when you try to receive? If yes,=20
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply =

We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.=20

Error message is:

"Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (a1301e1810) account.
Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please
try again later.

Server Error: 0x80048820

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820"

This seems to be a common problem at the moment - lots of cases being
reported around the internet. It MUST be something MS are aware of, and it
seems impossible that so many people have experienced the same problem
occurring on
the same day without it being a platform issue of some sort.

I beg to differ Gary. As stated, we can access our Hotmail account through
both Mozilla and IE8, but not through Windows Live Mail. This problem exists
on both of our laptops. The issue is clearly a Windows Live Mail issue not a
Hotmail issue.

ISSUE RESOLVED !!!!

GUYS - ANYONE WHO IS FACING THIS PROBLEM.... GO TO:

http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?threadid=a65ac76d-902f-4b9a-ba4d-3450597bdfb5

The issue is with the Registered Info in your account details. If you have
used an 'invalid character' such as & this causes the problem. Take it out
and, hey presto, Windows Live Mail works again.
