Some months ago I added a pop gmail account as a 2nd (not default) account.
I tested it both on incoming and outgoing emails and it was fine. Thereafter
I received a number of emails to this address, but didn't send any.

However yesterday I received an email which I needed to forward. It
appeared to go and duly appeared in my 'sent' folder. I then discovered
that it didn't get to the recipient. I have again tested it and outgoing
emails never actually reaches the destination.

No error messages. I have checked the settings but can't find anything
wrong.

Btw prior to this I could not connect to the net for 12 days due to a Telkom
fault.

I have Windows 7 Home & Student.

Help, please.

Does the failure only happen with that one recipient? Have you tried
sending to other recipients? Ask that recipient to look in their
spam/junk folders, both the one online and the one in their mail program.

The outgoing message is in your 'Sent folder', which indicates
that it has left your computer. It might have been blocked by
the recipient's ISP as suspected Spam. Try sending a test
message to your own primary email address.

You say have checked the settings - but what settings are you
using?

Under the servers tab -
The outgoing mail server should be smtp.gmail.com (or
smtp.googlemail.com)
For the outgoing server, the 'My server requires authentication'
box must be checked.
Click on the Settings button and select 'Use same settings as my
incoming mail server'

Under the Advanced tab -
Use Port 465 for Outgoing mail (SMTP)
Check the box marked 'This server require a secure connection'

If you need to change any settings, try sending another test
message to your own primary email address.

There is another real possibility. Problems with incoming and/or
outgoing emails can also be caused by Anti-virus software. If
you have configured your AV software to scan outgoing messages,
WLMail will sends the messages via the Antivirus program, instead
of directly to the Gmail SMTP mail server. The AV software is
supposed to scan the message before it leaves your computer.
However, WLMail thinks the message has been sent, and moves it to
the Sent folder.

AV software has been proven to cause conflicts with many Mail
Client utilities (including Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and
Windows Live Mail). Consequently, it is always preferable to
disable incoming AND outgoing scanning in your AV software.
Don't worry. Mail scanning is an unnecessary layer of security.
Disabling it will not leave you unprotected.

If that is why your outgoing messages are falling into a black
hole, merely 'switching off' or 'disabling' email scanning may
not resolve the problem. You will probably need to uninstall the
AV program completely - and perform a custom re-installation
(without email scanning).

@ gary : No - various recipients as well as my own default address and it's
not in my junk mail box.

@bob lucas : AVG free: I deactivated the scan outgoing mail (incoming mail
was already deactivated) and forwarded. Immediately got the following error
message:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'sagirlinjoburg@gmail.com'.

Correct.
The op appears to be receiving fine

The recommended settings for Gmail are

SMTP: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 SSL: YES with SMTP Authentication

In Outlook Express/Vista Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail SMTP
Authentication is specified at Tools (ALT+T), Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires
Authentication. Specify port and/or SSL on the Advanced tab.

I'm surprised you were able to send anything at all with those settings:
wrong port number, wrong SSL option.
Michael already gave you the correct settings.

Incidentally, if you send a test email to yourself via Gmail, it will not
be returned to your Inbox in Windows Live Mail. It's a Gmail policy.

I'm glad the problem has been resolved. It seems to have been
caused by a combination of:

a. Wrong server settings in WLMail and
b. AVG mail scanning prevented receipt of the error message,
which would have pointed to the wrong server settings
