Forwarding emails containing inline photos

  • Follow

Before moving to Windows 7 Live Mail, I could forward an email that contained
photos within the body of the email with comments between the photos.

Now if I forward such an email, all photos are forwarded as attachments and
I cannot add my own comments after each photo.

Am I missing a setting somewhere???

Thanks

When do you see this? In Sent Items or to a message to yourself? Are you
reading in Plain Text?

Tools | Options | Send. Is HTML set for the Mail Sending Format? HTML
Settings. Is Send Pictures With Messages checked?

Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes HTML is set for the Mail Sending Format and Send Pictures With Messages
is checked.

I purchased an HP Laptop w/Windows 7 about 3 weeks ago. I had no problems
with this issure with that machine. Two weeks later, the CD drive fell
apart. Two days ago I was able to swap the computer for a new one. This
problem occurred as soon as I received and tried to forward a message
containing photos in the body of the message.

If I simply click "Forward" and then "Send" the mail goes through and looks
just like the original with the photos appearing in both the "Attachment" AND
"Message" areas.

When I click "Forward" and the original email is displayed, I check the
"Format" menu and Rich Text Format is selected as well as "Send pictures with
message". However, all photos are listed in the attachments pane and the
only thing in the message pane is the "TO:, SENT:, FROM:, and SUBJECT:
entries.

I can, of course, create a new message and "Insert" photos and text just fine.

I am certainly confused. Any other suggestions???

Thanks again,
Bill

That would indicate that you are receiving an HTML format message, but
sending in plain text.

Look at Tools, Options, Send. You'll either want the option to Reply to
message in the format in which they were sent (which also applies to
forwards) or you'll want to use HTML for your mail sending format.

You are receiving the photos as attachments. By default, WLMail
automatically displayes these photos /after/ the message text.

When you click Forward, the photos do not show in the composition window,
but if you forward it to yourself, it should look like the original when
it arrives in your Inbox.

You shouldn't need to change any settings when you forward.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. As stated in my earlier reply, I am sending in HTML.
I double checked and I am replying in the format of the sender.

Thanks,
Bill

Hey Bruce,

Now I'm really confused. I just went through about 20 old emails containing
pictures and found that many of them would work perfectly but some continued
to prevent the photos from appearing in the message pane where I could then
further mark them up with text.

I could find no consistency. I'm wondering if those that did not work
"normally" could have orginally been sent to me AS attachments rather than
"inline" pics.

I will begin checking "incoming" emails carefully to see if those with pics
sent as attachments can be "Forwarded" inline.

Thanks,
Bill

This is after you click Forward, correct? (Not Reply).

I still think the ones you see after clicking Forward were sent Inline,
and the ones you don't see after clicking Forward were sent as
attachments.

It was NOT set to read in Plain Text. I changed it to Set but there was no
difference other than the fact that the pictures in the original email to me
disappeared from the message area and were only listed in the Attachment
pane. I changed the setting back to unchecked.

Thanks for the continued assistance.

Continuing on. You click Forward and the pictures disappear from the
compose window. But, if you send it to yourself, how does it look after
you receive it? That wasn't definitively answered.
