How do I highlite all the messages like when you can hold shift and multi 
selections occur that doesn't seem to work for me in live mail inbox

Hold Shift, click on the top message, click on the bottom message and all of 
them should be selected, let go of the Shift key.
If that doesn't work hold the Ctrl key - keep it depressed - and click on 
each message in turn.
Works fine for me.

Make sure the message list pane has the focus by clicking in it, then
press Ctrl+A to select (highlight) all the messages.

To select a block of adjacent messages, hold down the Shift key while
selecting the first and last message you want included in your selection..

To select multiple non-adjacent messages, hold down the Ctrl key.
