When I sign in to Windows Live Mail, this error box pops up. It won't
receive or send any emails. Any help on this one is much appreciated as this
is my business email and I am unable to my job if I can't be in contact with
my clients... thanks!!!

Unable to send or receive messages for the ********* (jenn) account. Your
server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this
include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

The error "unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference
from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running? Some of
them cause problems with Windows Mail over time. As a minimum,
email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off, although that may
not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario,
your antivirus may need to be uninstalled/reinstalled or replaced.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

I use avast! free antivirus... it's been installed for over a month though
and everything's been running fine, so I don't understand why it would be
causing problems now. I did disable the email scan, it was set to scan only
incoming messages. However, it didn't seem to help with my windows live mail
problem. I still can't send or receive anything and the same error box is
popping up. Do you know of something else I should try? Would you suggest
uninstalling and reinstalling avast? Or perhaps something else is causing
the problem?

Your Avast! antivirus was probably installed with its default install option,
which installs an email scanning module. Just disabling its email scanning
is not a sufficient remedy. Uninstall Avast!, then reinstall, but select 'custom'
install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email
scanning module.

While Avast is uninstalled, and after rebooting, test your Windows Live Mail.

Even with Fix-it 10's email scanning-protection disabled, this error occurs
on my POP3 accounts.

The response of mine you quoted was written to deal with a specific
problem experienced by "jennnnnnnnn". That same solution would not
necessarily apply to *your* issue.

I haven't seen *your* error message. I can't provide custom help without
seeing a complete copy of that error message.

I didn't ask for 'custom help' at all. I replied to this thread reporting
the same error on a POP3 account. Not Off-Topic at all for *my* issue,
which happens [gosh!] to be the same as 'jennnnnnnnnn' reported.
