USB memory stick driver Windows 98

  • Follow

Hello, anyone who knows where I can find a driver for my memory stick?

I'm about to empty my ancient old computer on files I want to save
elsewhere. It uses Windows 98 as operating systems (Second edition
4.10.2222A). I have already tried to download and install
"QuickiDriveTools1.1.exe", "usb-win98SE-all.exe",
"UStorageWin98Driver2_1.zip", but no one of them does the trick. I would
appreciate if someone could help me out of my situation.

I recommend using the driver from the Italian web site wintricks.it

It is not installed beforehand like some other generic drivers; rather
you point to
it when Windows first detects the inserted thumb drive, as you can see
from the
pictures on the web pages, even if you cannot read Italian.
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98.html

Although the pages are in Italian, you can look at the screenshots on
some of the
pages to determine how the driver is installed and uninstalled:

The Download link is the "Download" button on the last page.
http://www.wintricks.it/download/wtgenusb.zip

Basically, you download the driver package (.zip file), and unzip it to
a folder
where you plan to store it on the computer. Then when you insert your
flash drive,
Windows will detect it and give you the option to find the driver.
Choose to have
it look in the folder where you unzipped the downloaded files, and it
will see the
..inf file there and install your flash drive.

You can use this same .inf file to install other flash drives and USB
mass storage,
so save the .zip file somewhere safe and store the .inf file in a
permanent location
of your choice. I use the hidden Windows\Inf\Other folder, but you can
use whatever
you like.

I have had great success with this one on Windows 98 SE

There are two downloads there I believe, one for Windows 98 FE and on for
Windows 98 SE
