Using Thunderbird on TEO Operating Systems

I have a dual boot setup. Win98se on drive C: Win2000 on drive D: I use Win98 more than win2k, and I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed in Win98, but sometimes I go online using Win2000, because some sites refuse my older browsers. I loaded the .exe from Thunderbird located in the c:\program files\mozilla\thunderbird (the one installed to Win98). It could not find the email folder and wanted me to setup email accounts. I DO NOT want to install it twice and thus have to download and maintain two instances of the same thing. I dont mind having separate browsers and other software,

Scandisk completion issue

This machine was not used for several months. It booted up and looked very normal, with W98SE in C and my files in a separate D drive. I transferred about 150 MB from a flash card to a folder in D. An hour later I looked at the machine, an error screen had appeared "failure writing to drive F" - had not been writing to F (flash card, writing from it). Closed screen, then found the desktop screen had frozen. Had to turn off. boot up, the usual scandisk ran, it completed checking C, but in checking driv

I want to send a 55meg movie file (from his wedding), to a friend by email. He lives in another state, so I can not just deliver it. Free and not free AV for 98 and how to get around the problem

With apologies to all involved, I am /really/ getting tired of the never-ending "Free AV for 98?" threads. Of course, nothing will stop them, even this post, since most people are too lazy to read even a hundred old posts, being absolutely certain that they are the first person ever faced with the particular problem at hand. So why are 20% of web surfers still using it? Today was supposed to be a great day for the Web. As of March 1, 2010, Google will no longer support Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6 browser-a decade-old dinosaur engineered to navigate the Web as it existed in the year 2000. No reply is needed to this. It is just a partial followup to the long thread I started, "WinZip 8.0 running v. slowly". In that thread, I mentioned a large number of "niggles" which had developed, over a long period (but especially in the last few months), in my Win98SE installation (dating from January 2007). The one I most urgently needed to deal with was the very slow running of WinZip 8.0, and that seems to have been sorted out (although further tests must be made) by uninstalling it, and replacing it with WinZip 9.0 SR1 (as someone here suggested). As far as I can tell from doing a few experiments with 7-Zip, reading the documentation that comes with it, and browsing a few pages of the 7-Zip Support forum at SourceForge, 7-Zip entirely lacks an absolutely basic feature of WinZip, which is essential for saving and restoring complex structures of files and directories (folders): namely, that you can add to a specified archive any specified set of files together with all its path information. This seems especially odd, as 7-Zip is perfectly capable of understanding the directory structure of an archive created by WinZip. It dis

It stopped during the download of the 2/8/2010 VAS update. It was still in the download stage, so I didn't understand the message. I'll bet it's over 3 times the size of Quciktime that ran on Win98 [and I'll bet it crashes Win98], so where can I find Quicktime that runs on Win98?

USB Flash Drive Limitation

Hi, If you use a USB flash drive ("thumb drive") and you can't copy another file to that drive, with an error message such as "access denied" or "unable to create...", it is possible you may have used up the space available, used for the names of files and folders/directories in the "root" folder/directory. To "fix" this, move (copy then delete) some files to the hard drive. Then create a folder(s) at the root directory. Afterwards, copy files into a folder. The "root" directory has a limit to the number of entries (filenames and folder names) it can accommodate.

If you want Norton Utilities 2002, here it is

Ok, I've zipped up the entire NU directory on the NSW 2002 CD. It can be downloaded from here: http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7/19/2010382/norton.zip When you unzip that file, you'll get this: NU.piz Rename that to nu.zip and unzip it. That will give you the entire NU directory. Run setup.exe to install Norton Utilities 2002. The password to unzip both the above zip files is "a" (no quotes). That should give you a working copy of Norton Speed disk (and a lot more).

Defrag problems

I tried to defrag HD from MS DOS, I restarted PC into a MS-DOS prompt, typed defrag c: /f /sd- /skiphigh but got message saying that "this program requires microsoft windows".. So defrag utility does not work from DOS. Defragging from Windows does work, since it constantly restarts and says "drive's content changed: restarting", then tried defrag from Safe mode (from Run command prompt) but had the same issue "drive's content changed: restarting", just less frequently. Finally I tried "Selective startup" in Msconfig, unchecked all boxes, restarted into Safe mode, then run comma
