Visio 2010 SDK - Solution Publishing

I downloaded the VIsio 2010 SDK so I could update some published Stencils and Templates for Visio 2010.... I previously had them published under 2007, so I'm famaliar with the tools... I've got two problems with the new Solution Publishing tool... First: If I choose to publish the Stencil or Template using the "2003 or later" checkbox (under Stencil Information or Template Information dialog boxes, respectivly)... Neither the Stencils or Templates show up in Visio 2010. However, if I choose "Visio 2010 only" as the option, then the stencil or template is then available

Visio 2007 Pro Trial

I've just loaded Visio 2007 Trial version. I am having difficulty creating a new file or editing older versions because all of the edit boxes are grayed out? I'm not sure if this is a licensing issue or if something in the download was corrupt? Thanks for any help in advance

Data was linked to hidden shape data fields on some of your shapes

I have a network diagram containing shapes linked to records from an Access database. I've applied a data shape that shows the description and IP address of the device from its record. I'm using shapes from stencils provided by Cisco. For some of the shapes, when I link a record to them, the IP address is not displayed next to the shape, only the description and I get the following message: Data was linked to hidden shape data fields on some of your shapes. I've checked the data shape, the record, etc., and everything appears in order. In short, why is the IP address

Timelines and Flowcharts

Hi there, I am fairly new to Visio and using 2002 (will upgrade to 2007 in the fall). I am working in a flowchart but would like to add a timeline to the flowchart. Is this possible? When I go to File-New-Project Schedule-Timeline, it creates a new page. Any help would be appreciated.

Shear or Skew a complex object in Visio 2003 or 2010

How can I shear an object? In simple terms, I want to change a rectangle to a parallelogram. Hovering over with the pencil and changing two of the corners won't work, because I also want to apply this to a complex object, or even a group. I remember being able to do this in Macromedia's Freehand, and found it very useful. Thanks Eddie

Visio 2010 - Line End Arrow Points Down, not Horizontal

I made a simple diagram with seven lines with arrows leading from a box on the left of a drawing to seven stacked component boxes on the right. The six lines that were not horizontal worked, but the arrow at the end of the horizontal line points down instead of to the right. I finally gave up and finished the drawing in about five seconds on a Visio 2007 machine. I have been using Visio since Windows 3.1, but am not a power user. Any idea? Visio 2010 beta and BCSRuntime.dll problem

I recently downloaded Visio beta 2010 and now, upon opening Outlook (From office 2003), I receive the BCSRuntime.dll missing error. Seems to work ok but I'd like to resove the problem and eliminate the notification. I also run full Office 2007 suite. -- SP

visio 2007 columns and relations disappeared

I reverse engineered a database and at some point the wile I was organizing the tables a few of the foreign got left behind. I spent long time organizing the tables and found this very frustrating. I could not find a way "reattach" the tables to each other. I removed the orphaned lines from the page thinking that when I updated the diagram from the database they would reappear. They did not. In fact columns had also been removed from tables. How do I get the tables to reflect the data in the database again? Refreshing the model does not work!

Getting Data Shapes to Work with Custom Stencils

I imported a picture and saved it as a shape. Then I linked data from a SQL database. I can get the data to show up in the Shape Date, but I can't get a Data Graphic to appear. Note that I can get Data Graphics to work with out of the box shapes in the same drawing - just not the custom picture. Tried in both Visio 2007 and 2010 Beta. What am I doing wrong? Visio 2010: rounded corners on connectors?

Hello all, What happened to the quick, easy, and beautiful "rounded-corner" connector styles from Visio 2007? I don't want big swooping arcs in my flowcharts, but I do want nice straight connector lines with smoothly rounded corners instead of the sharp, hard right-angle lines and angles offered. Is there any way to do this in Visio 2010? If not, that alone might be enough to prevent me from buying a retail copy when it comes out. Thanks!

Point "stuck" in Command

When I have used either the "Connector" or "Text" function from the toolbar, it seems that my mouse is "stuck" in perpetual state on this command. Even if I add a new shape, I still have the small cross and box that was previously used when I added text to the chart. How do you "shut" the commands off of the mouse/pointer. -- Ewoman58

Forgive me, but I am a Visio beginner. I've been asked to edit an existing Visio document that require that I replace 3 existing pictures and add a fourth. I've tried to follow the help menu's guidleines, but those instructions are not working. Suggestions?

How To Cut A Hole In A Shape?

I want to create composite custom shape with an outer rim. Like a ring only with irregular inside and outside shapes. So I created 2 closed custom shapes using the Drawing Tool. I placed the smaller shape on top of the larger shape. My objective is to cut a hole in the larger shape using the smaller shape as a template. Leaving an irregular rim around the open space. I tried every Shape Operations menu action to combine the shapes and yield the cutout, but can't figure out how to do it. Any guidance? Also is there tutorial on using the Shape Operation functions for custom sh

change color of bar on multi-day event shape

Link shapes and property inheritance

Is it possible to create a shape and then allow child shapes to connect to and inheritant (or access) custom properties? For example: I have a generic server shape that contains some custom properties for server name, IP, OS, etc. Can I add a shape that represents backups that will have some custom values like raw storage, etc. The goal would then be to generate a report for the backup team that would display the custom properties that from the server (parent) and the backup object (child)? Hi, Im doing rack diagram, so i need to paint all cables with different colors by their lengths. I can see all connections lengths from "size & position" one by one, How to do that? now looking up that "color by value" command and it doesn't work? Pls help?

resizing in groups

Is there a way to define a aspect ratio to lower all shapes at the same %? Cause it gets so massy after a while to contol all sizes etc :( visio seems to lack some imagination :) I try to group all shapes and resize them, then the links(lines) stays at the same size, which makes them flow out of shapes etc:( p.s.: I am using a BPMN Stencil(v1.1)

Sending data to SQL Server

Hi, I am building a solution to allow a user to upload shape data to SQL Server and I have a couple of questions. 1) Is it possible to include more attributes than just the shape data, but also details of the process model file such as it's title, version, etc? I could do with having the file name in every column of shape data for example. 2) It's quite a few clicks to export the data to an SQL database (about 5 or 6). Is there a way to have this feature available say next to the floppy disc save icon? Steve
