Entering Custom Property Data

I have a problem with entering and reporting of data attached to shapes via Custom properties: - 1) If I change the Duration type to "Duration" and the format to "[h]:[m] Visio will not accept entries in the format e.g 1:15 (1h 15m) but demands numeric entric, so I have to enter 1.25 2) If I create a report I get a figure in ed (elapsed days) - sometime with bizarre numbers. What am I doing wronmg? Am I expecting something that is not possible?

Can't synchronize within a Timeline diagram

Hello I am new to Visio and am trying to construct a timeline showing a critical path that is constantly changing. I am using Visio Professional 2003, product id 72085 640 0572601 55992 and am having real trouble synchronizing milestones and intervals so that each time I change a date, it amends the subsequent dates. Each time I try to synchronize (right click on mouse whilst hightlighting interval/ milestone) a pop-up appears saying 'There are no miles on the page with which to synchronize' when clearly there are several before. How do I add transparency to 5 pictures on one page?

I want to make 5 pictures assembled on one page more transparent for a background. How do I do it in Powerpoint, or OneNote, or Visio. Visio does not work with fader slider because I think it will not recognise the "page" as one picture.

I created an org chart with over 100 pages using the Org Chart Wizard and Excel, I’m assigning colors to various shapes using the Data Graphic feature. To apply the colors I choose “Edit” then “select all” which selects all the shapes on the current sheet, then I select “Apply To Selected Shapes” from the Data Graphics pane, this works fine for the current sheet but is there a way to apply this to all the sheets at once. Functional bands don't stay put

Hello, I'm having a problem working with functional bands. Right now I have a document with 4 functional bands, each with a different fill color. When I save the document and exit Visio, the next time I log into Visio and open the doc, the bands have shifted, so that the 4th band is now, say, the 1st or 2nd band, the 1st band is now the 2nd or 3rd or 4th band, and so on. If I put them back in the correct order, most of the objects in the flow chart look just fine, except for a couple of stray lines here or there. But when I save the doc again, the issue will return. Using the Join function on lines from an AutoCAD import

Hi, I use Visio 2007 and I have a problem joining lines and then filling the resultant shape on an AutoCAD import. So, I imported my DWG file. I've done a convert once it imported. I've discovered that there's a layer called DWGEntityColorOverrideLayer and that this has to be ticked to allow Visio to recolour lines, etc. I've got a selection of lines and arcs that touch up against each other to form a single shape. I want to fill that shape. So I select all the lines and use the Shapes > Operations > Join function and the join goes ahead but the fill colour won't apply.

Trying to change floor plan units to millimeters but does not work

Hi, I want to create a floor plan with millimeters as base unit. I created a new page with the floor plan shape and changed the unit to millimeters in the page properties. However, when I drag a wall to the page, it shows it's length in feet and inches. I can specify the length of the wall in millmeters but it still displays the result in feet and inches. New Visio 2007 Problems

I was upgraded recently to Visio 2007 and can't seem to get certain things to work any longer. For example, some dialog boxes do not pop up (Configure Timeline) on the Schedule template. Nothing on the Data: Solutions menu is working. When I access Help it seems to be incorrect and doesn't match how the product menus actually are. Is this an installation or configuration issue that someone can help me with?

Memory Leak in Visio Data Refresh

Hi There, I am using the built-in data refresh in Visio 2007. I am automatically refresh every 3 minutes. What I have found is that the MemUsage incrementally increases after each data refresh until I get an error message of not having enough virtual memory. Create timeline for 2500 B.C. to 100 B.C.?

Visio only allows me to create timeline for after 1900 AD. Can I use Visio to create a timeline for 2500 BC to 100 BC? Visio's Divided timeline has exactly what I need except I can not enter BC as the start and end time. And Visio always require end time to be greater than the start time. Any suggestion on how I can do this in Visio?

Hyperlinks and Custom Properties

I desperately need help with this! It is driving me crazy. In Custom Properites, I have a label, "email" in the "value" of the details of Custom Properties I want to enter email address with a hyperlink. So that when a user clicks in the Value of the email (eg. "mailto:emailtome@anywhere.com) it will open email. I am able to do this with a tool tip on the shape. But I am being asked to include it in the value of the Custom Properties. Can this be done? Please can someone please help me with this? Thank you.

Move a single org chart shape

This is a simple question (I hope). I am trying to reduce the vertical space between the shapes at the top of my organizational chart. If I try to move or nudge any one of these shapes, all of the shapes below it also move thus making it impossible to close the gap. If I try using the "change spacing" feature, it rearranges all of the shapes in my chart. Any advice would be greatley appreciated. Claudia

Hi there, I'm currently building a map of my company applications (more than 90 applications). I use an Excel to store informations such as Applications name, purpose, etc. I also have a Worksheet that store informations about applications that are calling other (web service, direct database, file, etc.). Know, I want to have a visual representations of these informations. I succeeded importing these data in visio and showing applications. But I failed to represent links between applications. Can't Add Shapes (or do anything!)

I've installed the 60-day trial of Visio and can't get anything to work. When I try to drag-and-drop shapes into the grid/page, my mouse changes to the crossed arrows icon, and I can't drag & drop anything onto the page. Most of my options in the menus are also greyed out (including options under New, Save, etc.) HELP!

Visio 2002 Default Line size

I go to more line weights and select a weight of "1" and click apply. This seems to set the size temporarily. The problem is that when I close Visio 2002 and open it again, the line weight comes back as a default of "3". Is there a way to make this default as a line weight of "1"? Thanks --JoeH

I'm looking for some tips for how to manage naming conventions within and across Visio files. If you have a subprocess that is used in/called by multiple processes, what would be a good way to name the "start" and "end" shapes?
