I have a user on our Sharepoint site that has lost their ability to edit an 
EXCEL document.  They have contribute permission and have been able to edit 
it in the past.  The drop down menu with "edit" as a selection no longer 
appears.

They were using IE 6.0 and I upgraded them to IE 7.0, but the problem still 
persists.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Try clearing up the local cache of the browser. Check if the same user
has the same issue on another machine. This will help you to isolate
the issue.

Clearing the cache solved the problem.  Even the fellow that owns the site 
that hosts my sharepoint site had no idea why this was happening.  I didn't 
know what I was going to do to get this fixed.  You're a lifesaver!
