Is it possible...Multiple Project Server intance on one server?

Is it possible to install and maintain multiple MSP server instances on one
server? Example would be two or three different server environments installed
on one server each...app, database, web server.

Hello nkbrgs,

You do not need multiple instances of Project Server 2007 on same
machine. Single installation of Project Server 2007 capable of hosts
multiple instances of PWA (multiple web tiers), each of PWA with its
own databases. Off course its always one content database shared by
all PWA.

As I know, each machine will have only one instance of MS Project
Server 2007 application. You can add the multiple project server
instances with load balancing, if you want to extend scalability.

Yes, it can be done, but I don’t recommend it for production instances for a
number of reasons - in short; it makes your environment very complicated.

If you have to do it – create a new and separate web application, separate
web application pool and content database - then provision your new PWA
instance to your new web application.

Thanks for the replies. Our biggest hurdle is not with PWA or the web...it is
with Pro and the ability for everyone to see all resources in the enterprise
resource pool. We work in a government and contractor environment and need to
restrict the access for all users to see all the resources in the pool. There
are seperate groups that cannot see the other groups resources or the info
about the resource that is present.

So, I guess the real question is can you have multiple resource pools with
restricted access?

Thanks,
nkbrgs

Hi nkbrgs,

Yes, the solution is having multiple PWAs. Each PWA will have unque
URL.

Example: Suppose you have two PWA instances, http://pwa1 and http://pwa2;
Each PWA acts as separate Project Server instance. It means, you can
have different resource pools. (Each PWA will have own resource pool)

User(PM) have to use PWA url to connect Project Pro to Project Server.
So, it connects to instance of that project server and launches the
enterprise global/resource pool belongs to that PWA instance.

Thanks Chak. The information you provided is very good and explains it very
well. I happened to come across the same info on line late yesterday which
has screenshots and detail on how to set this up.

Thanks again.
