Color format not saved in MS Project 2007
A PM reported that color format used in his project files disappeared from
project server after it's level loaded against other projects in the server.
Is this an error? This seems to happen when you select color formatting from
the Gantt view.

Not exactly sure how it works but from what I gather if you have a view
definition contained in the global enterprise then customisations to view by
the PM (incl. colouring of tasks or font changes) will/could be overwritten
by the PServer definition in the global. you can make it work but got to
fiddle a bit with view/organiser stuff.

If a PM applies Cell Background Formatting to tasks while in the Enterprise
Gantt Chart view, the project will not retain the color formatting. If the
PM applies Cell Background Formatting to tasks while in the regular Gantt
Chart view, the project is SUPPOSED to retain the color formatting.
However, I have been at client sites where the colors were dropped at random
for some strange reason. And these clients were current on Service Packs
and Cumulative Updates applies as well. So, all I can say for sure is that
I have seen intermittent loss of Cell Background Formatting applied to
enterprise projects in the Gantt Chart view. Perhaps this is what your user
is seeing as well. Hope this helps.

Dale,
Thank you. This is exactly what we're seeing here in our environment. Do you
know if this is addressed in 2010? or a patch?
I know that it impacts any PM who want to track their schedule using color
formatting.
Thank you,
Chris

I have not tested this yet with Project Server 2010, so I cannot comment.
All I can tell you for sure that if this is a bug, it is a very intermittent
one which I cannot reproduce. As far as patches, is your Project Server
2007 system updated with Service Pack 2 and the latest Cumulative Updates?
This includes applying SP2 and the latest CU to each Microsoft Project 2007
client as well. If not, you need to update to the latest to see if this
resolves the problem.
