When I open Outlook Express 6 it does not highlight or go to the latest
message but goes to an older one, even though I sort on date.
How can I fix this? The main user of the machine has low vision and this
creates a complication I would prefer to avoid.
Thanks.

If all messages are unread, non will highlight. If some are read and some
are new, the last message that was read will be highlighted. At least
that's the way it works for me.

Aha! Thanks. Is there a way to get all emails marked read automatically?
I see I can switch to "read" after preview but am looking for something more
automatic. Thanks.

You can use message rules, but that will mark all new messages as read as
they arrive.
For all messages
Mark as read & Stop processing more rules.

That's ok. I just tried your suggestion but the highlighting stays on the
last message before the new ones. It seems as if the highlighting is done
before the rule is applied. Any ideas?

I tried it myself and it worked fine, for new messages, that is. Any you
already have need to me marked as read manually, or use Apply Now in the
rule. You might need to move it up to the top of the rules list as well.

Sorry to keep coming back at you but I moved the rule to the top and marked
all messages read and the email that is received when I open outlook express
is not the highlighted one. The highlight stays on the last email received
the last time it was opened. If I don't have OE open to my inbox it works
but I would like to make this as easy as possible for the main user. So I
am hoping you have an easier solution. Thanks. "Bruce Hagen"

I misunderstood your last reply. I was referring to highlighting as a new
message is bold until read. You are speaking of what message is
highlighted in blue, as if you single clicked on it? Unfortunately,
WYSIWYG. The only way around that is to keep the Inbox empty, i.e. move
every message after it's been (physically) read.
