Lost OE Messages
On XP Pro SP3, IE 7, OE 6
I am in transition mode for microsoft.public. Newsgroups.
Had the Microsoft server and the Freenews Netfront server accounts.
As some of my Microsoft server newsgroup were closed as of today I
deleted my Microsoft server account.
In my OE Message Store C:\Documents and Settings\x\Local
Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{AF183F5C-720B-4C22-B5B2-35F2D38D2B3B}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express
I now have some double entries in Folders such as Email.dbx 1683KB and
Email (1).dbx 139 KB
The Folder Email shows up but is empty. How do I find the messages?

Check mail from another address!
Hi,
I have mu outlook express 6 setup to check my mail and my wifes as she
rarely goes on. I thought I can download from tiscali.pop and set
"leave copy on server".
But oddly, most mails I have received to not show when she finally
gets to go into OE6 later.
I've just sent her a couple of test massages that appear in my box
after a quick send/rcve. Then I log out and into her OE6 and they are
there?
Why aren't others there? Any thoughts.

nntp behind a firewall
My job network doesn't let me pass by port 119. Some nntp servers offer other
ports in order to workaround that (like port 80). I've tried to set the OE
to access news.microsoft.com by port 80, but it was no good.
Is there some alternate port to reach Microsoft news server?
Is there some other tip to workaround this problem?
Thanks in advance.

more versions of .dbx file
I've noted this strange behaviour on my Windows XP SP3 domain client
configured to use Outlook Express 6 to send and receive mail:
many times in the last months the inbox folder was suddenly empty.
Looking at the local oulook storage folder I can see many versions of the
Inbox.dbx file:
-inbox.dbx
-inbox(1).dbx
-inbox(2).dbx
-inbox(3).dbx
.....
If I delete the last inbox.dbx file and rename the previous version I can
see all my inbound mails.
I don't know why this happens and if is it any way to fix this issue.
Thanks in advance.

I mistakenly sent a newsgroup reply to the author rather than the group.
For two days I've gotten messages saying that the server is

Unable To Restore OE6 .DBX Files

Peculiar apostrophes...

It happens with either of OE or Outlook as the default.
Is this likely to be a fault at my end, or is it in the newspaper's site?
