Win 7 Pro running 64 bit with Outlook 2007. Problem: frequent cras

  • Follow

I have a brand-new computer with i-7 processors and 8 GB of RAM running Win 7
Pro 64-bit. At the time of upgrading to new computer, i upgraded office 2003
to 2007. For the first month, all was well. Suddenly, my computer started
crashing regularly, as in every 30 minutes. The screen would go blank, the
mouse and keyboard wouldn't work, and I would have to do a hard reboot. The
store where i bought the PC has done everything imaginable to try to isolate
the problem. They have swapped out every component, including the RAM,
motherboard, power supply, video card and all cabling. No luck. After much
trial and error, it seems that the computer will crash only if Outlook 2007
is running. I have about 8 GB of .pst files. Is there a known problem with
Outlook 2007 and Win7? All suggestions welcome.

No issues here with Windows 7 x64 and Office/Outlook 2007. If this just
started within the last week or so, did you rule out this patch since there
are some complaints about it?

Do you have any add-ins? If you start Outlook in safe mode (hold Ctrl when
you start it) does if behave properly?

My problems began about four weeks ago. I have just downloaded and installed
all Windows updates.

Hello Brian. I have no add-ins, but I will give safe mode a try. Many thanks.

Is that 8 GB in one pst? Does it work ok if you make a new pst and
disconnect the old one?

Any errors in the Event viewer?

Hi Diane.

The 8GB is the total of five files. the largest pst is a 3 GB archive file.
I started a new pst with this installation.

What is an Event viewer?

Best,

Bill

Right-click My Computer, choose Manage. Event Viewer is there. You can get
at it other ways, too. Start>Search>eventvwr.exe

Hi Diane.

Found the event viewer and it has lots of entries. What in particular
should i be looking for? In the summary of Administrative events i have 6
critical and 33 error entries in the past seven days. There are also 107
warning entries, and 2,263 information events.
