Why Notes in Contact detail view now shows a timeline of inputs?
I use Outlook 2007 on Vista. Recently, my Notes section of the detailed
address view is showing a greyed out timeline of input and repeats the input.
How can I avoid this?

problem with overlapping text in contact forms
I have Outlook 2007 on a cumputer running Windows XP Professional SP3. Whe I
attempt to add a new category for contacts, the text input appears completely
overlapped and garbled. When I hit OK to create the new category, it comes
out correctly, but I can not see if it is inputted correctly until after I
hit OK. This problem seems to be spreading to other standard Outlook forms,
especially those that appear in a pop-up window. Any ideas as to what might
be causing this and how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Distributionlist i Outlook
I have a distributionslist made in Outlook 2007 and when I mail it to someone
who has Outlook 2003 they cant open it. Is the fileformat different from 2003
to 2007?
It doesn´t matter what format I use - msg or msg with unicode. Any ideas

e-Mail merge from Access database?
I have a database of club members in an access database and I would like to
send an e-mail to the ones who have an e-mail address. (Query for e-mail
field not null) Is there a way to do this directly, in the manner of a
printed mail merge in Word, or must I import the list into the contacts? And
if I must do that is there a way to keep that list separate from the main
contacts folder?

how do I add phone extension information so dials correctly?
is there some way to add a pause between the number and then the extension so
when you dial from a contact it connects, and then inserts the extension
number so you get connected? Just adding the digits for the extension after
the number has been making it think its an international call.

phone to non-exchange contacts/calendar sync
I've used Outlook (non-exchange) since it was new and am using 2007 now. I
simply do not want to change :)
I'd like to find a process wherein I can sync my phone with OL without the
wire. I have a gmail account and have looked at the premium (with their
sync) subscription, but wondered if this is the a good way to go. I
understand that MS is with hotmail and that this may work better, but I don't
like change :)
Any suggestions or comments?

I use Comcast as my email provider and just started using Outlook. However,
my email contacts do not show up in my Outlook so when I want to send an
email I have to use my Comcast and can't send from Outlook. How can I import

Finding Outlook.pst
I did a search for Outlook.pst, and the search engine found this:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
Questions:
1: when I try to find that path after %username% (using the actual name),
there is no Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ , so the only way to find the
Contacts file is to always do a search. How can I find the
Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ so I don't have to run a search?
2: My purpose in finding it was for backup purposes. So I ended up doing a
Copy/ Paste from my Search to my external backup. I

change mail format for contacts
For the iphone, attachments come over as winmail.dat and the solution is to
change the mail format in options, mail format to HTML.
Also the individual contacts needs to be changed by double clicking the
email address and changing the internet format to Send Plain Text only.
After these changes are made, the attachments come over fine. I have had
problems with this issue with some contact before. I would love to be able to
make this change globally instead of having to edit all contacts. Can this be
done.

How can I show U.S. country code (+1) in my contacts?
I've moved to Italy, and would like to have the U.S. country code show in my

Auto update contact e-mails to address book distribution lists
I'm uploading about 2000 contacts adn mapping information to various fields.
Can I change the way I view my ADDRESS book. I have been trying to change
it so shows company (Last,First).
I'm starting with a blank address book, changing the settings in

How do I import my address book from my POP 3 Juno account?
I'm hoping to import my address book from my juno email on the web account to
Outlook, and then to export it to my new Hotmail account.
I seem to be botching it badly, so far. I was able to save my list to
'Recent Documents'. My efforts to COPY and Paste as an individual 'New
Contact' result in partial information and the email address, phone number,
etc. are missing.
Are there step-by-step instructions to accomplish what should be a

Outlook 2007 - Add Contact List to address book
Two users using Outlook 2007 (Administrator and his assistant), the
assistant is a delegate on the Administrator's Contact list.
In OL 2007 the delegate is unable to view the contacts from the
delegators list of contacts when creating/forwarding an email (see
attachment). The delegators contacts were available in OL 2003.
All appropriate permissions have been configured to allow delegate
access (has editor permissions).

All my phone numbers of Italy are automatically attributed to State of
Vatican.
I select in the menu "Italy" then I save but when I open the record it shows
again State of Vatican!
The state code is the same (+39).

Distribution List - Undeliverable
I have created some distribution list. When I try to send an email to one of
these list, the List name appears in the to: address section, it is in bold
and has the + sign next to it. If you click on the + sign it shows all of
the addresses in the list. When I send the email I get an undeliverable
email back that states: (I set up a test group to try and resolve the problem)

Address book unavailable
Just upgraded from 2003 to 2007and all data has been migrated to the new
computer & version of Outlook. I have access to my contact data in Contacts,
but not through Address Book. When using the tools menu to add an address
book, there are no choices in the drop-down menu. When attempting to
designate a contact list as an address book via Address Book in the
Properties menu of the contact list, the option of "Show this folder....." is
'grayed' and I am unable to select it.
I have tried creating a new contact folder in My Contacts, but the same
thing happens.

Sub cotact categories disappeared but still shows in address book

Address Fields Displaying incorrectly
I've imported a series of address from a CSV file and mapped all the fields
correctly (I think) and i have 2 questions
Q1
The problem I have is that in business card view the addresses don't display
correctly. They seem to be ok if you open the contact but don't initially
display how I want them (or like the others already in the contacts folder).
To illustrate the problem I've attached an incorrect and correct view of how
I want the address information to be displayed.

The email address comes in ok but I want the display name to be "FirstName

Contact Picture
I have all my outlook contacts in various categories. Each contact has a
specific contact picture assigned to it which is related to their categories
(e.g. a doctor may have a picture of an ambulance assigned to them). This
makes it easy to read for me as I view my contacts as business cards.
I have several hundred additional contacts to import, all of which require
the same picture assigning to them. Can I automate this or do I have to
assign each one individually?

How to remove contacts when email changes
Outlook 2003
If I receive an email from a sender not on my list, that sender's email
address is not automatically added to my contacts but will appear on the
automated list when I enter the first letter of the sender's email address.
If that sender changes email address I cannot delete the old email address.
Instead I am left with two email addresses for that sender both of which will
appear on the automated list. How can I remove the old email address?

Contacts Button
In Office 2003 Outlook when creating or editing a contact, there was a button
in the lower left called Contacts to link one or more contacts to each other.
When I converted to Office 2007, the button went away, there is a field
called Contacts in the frequently-used fields under Show => Show All Fields.
It shows my previous contact to contact links but will not let me up date
the field.
In another conversation, someone said to have the contact field in 2007, you
have to create the field (which is already ready created but not
update-able). How do I create the same function

Address books not accessable from "To" CC" or "BCC" boxes
I can't seem to access my adress books from the address area of a new e-mail.
I ahve tried to go to the address bock anc acct. setting under the "tools'
but to no avail. It shows the "Outlook Address book" there and won't let me
add it. Also, when I go to the respective tabs for each of my address books
the box to "show address books" is grayed out.

2003. I just found the Contacts field in 2007 but I cannot edit this field.

I have saved my contacts in an Excel 97-2003 spreadsheet with 1st row titles
i.e. Name, address. I have tried naming ranges by individual columns and by
naming the range as the whole spreadsheet. In the wizard, after choosing
Excel 97-03 and next, it tells me I need to define the ranges. I can't even

Shared database not showing on all computers
Hi, thanks in advance for your assistance. We have 4 computers sharing a
main database maintained on our server thru the Microsoft Exchanger Server,
using Outlook 2007. I have full permissions to add/update remotely from the
server .
Problem is: each computer shows a different number of contacts in that same
folder and recently added contacts are not visible. I have tried restarting
Outlook and the computer, did not help.
An extensive look online for assistance with this brought up nothing to even

jumbled overlapping text when adding categories in Outlook 2007
Hi,
I have Outlook 2007 with BCM (I don't use the BCM feature) and whenever I
try to add a new category, the text I enter completely overlaps to the point
I can't read it. If I continue to type anyway and hit "OK" the category
comes out correctly and has been added, but the garbled text is annoying and
it is difficult to see if I have made a typo until too late.
This problem is now spreading to other standard Outlook forms where I type
in information. The consistent thing when I have this problem seems to be
when Outlook opens a new pop-up window to add information.

Distribution lists won't expand?
Beginning two days ago, local distribution lists on one of our workstations
no longer expand into individual emails. By this I mean there is no longer a
'+' beside the list in the "To:" field. Also, the server rejects the email
with the following message:

Sending an Email to Multiple Addressees
In Outlook EXPRESS when addressing a new email to several people, I clicked
on "To" and got my whole Contacts list. Then I could just click on the
intended recipients and that added them to the "To" list. In Outlook 2007,
when I click on "To" I just get a box that requires searching for one
recipient at a time. That is ultra-annoying!
What am I missing here? How do I get to my entire Contacts list from the
"To" button in Outlook 2007?

I have a new Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager. (I don't use the
BCM portion of the product.) When I attempt to add a new category, the text
I enter completely overlaps, making it impossible to read what I typed. If I
hit OK to add the category, it comes out correctly in the end. Now, this

Phone numbers all runnig together
When I enter phone numbers apparently there is a default somewhere to have it
set with no separation. It shows up like 1234567891 instead of 123-456-7891
or even (123) 456-7891

Outlook 2007 importing contacts from EXCEL.
When attempting to import contacts from Excel I receive the following error:
MAPI error 0X80040107.
I have Windows 7 on a 64 bit laptop. (I never had this issue with my prior
computer which had a 32 bit processor - don't know if this is an issue)
I converted the Excel data to .xls and .csv formats and got the same message.
I did name the data range, just as I have for the past several years.
The closest correction I can locate on the MS sight relates to the
mapi32.dll file, which as my computer is not a ....32... processor, I'm not
willing to try this fix.

contact category
How do I assign and reassign categories using real, grown-up words rather
than colors? I want to be able to assign a contact to a named category, not
a pretty color category. I would like to eliminate the whole color scheme.

Category sync Outlook 2007 WM6.5
Hi all,
My boss had brought a new smartphone and want to reorganize his
contacts...
He is actually sorting all his contacts in his Exchange contact list
(via Outlook) and he would like that his assistants helps him.
I've shared his contacts list to his assistants and they cans see and
add contacts in his list.
Now the problem is about categories...
The assistants can see some categories (about 9) but not all of them
(about a dozen)...
they see them without colours but we dont care :)
Can someone explain me that? Is there a limitation? I give "Editor"

Outlook Contacts Duplicate
When entering new info for contacts and saving it in outlook, sometimes a box
comes up saying that I have made changes and what do I want to do with those
changes. Other times, it just duplicates the contacts. My question is why is
that box not coming up all the time?

Contacts format
I have recently started using Outlook and have imported some 500 names and
e-mail addresses from a .csv file from my old PC. They have all been imported
correctly but the "Display as.." field automatically repeats the e-mail
address. Is there any way I can change them all so that what appears in the
"To:" box is simply the first and last names? Could I have created a field
in the Excel file to do this? I know I could amend each contact separately,
but.....

My Contacts folders
Hi There
I had many contacts which I had organised into several "Folders", which each
appeared under My Contacts. Some I deleted one I selected to "Remove from My
Contacts". Unfortunately when i synced with my ipod - the group (in apple
terms) appeared. There is no way of deleting a group on the ipod so its back
to Outlook.
Whilst the fodler doesnt appear under "My Contacts" it does appear under the
"Contacts" folder if I do a search and select the folders to search.
I have tried deleting the address book and creating a new one but I suspect
that is not the problem as s

How can I integrate Contacts with Calendar?
I want to be able to forward-diary a contact into Calendar, so that on the
date diaried, I can click on the entry and immediately get the contact's
record card. This does not seem possible and I end up having to have two
records cards, one in Contacts and the other in Calendar. Is there a way that
I can open a record card and diary it so that it appears as an entry in

Forward contact from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007
When I forward a contact from Outlook 2003 to someone with Outlook 2007 the
attached contact shows up as a e-mail. How do I forward a 2003 contact so
that it shows up as a 2007 contact that can be saved?

Trouble printing the notes section of a contact
I have Outlook 2007, but had this same trouble with previous versions.
The text box give you a huge amt. of space to enter info in the "notes"
section of a contact, but only some of that text prints out on a hard copy if
I have entered more than a few lines of text. I don't even mean full lines
going across the whole text box. Even 5-10 lines of a list or a few extra
addresses or telephone #s can be too much text to show up on a hard copy.
Yet the text box allows for 10 times that much to be entered.
There also doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what prints out &

count them and how to delete just one name from a list without deleting the

Distribution Lists do not expand in Outlook 2003
As of today, the distribution lists on one of our workstations do not expand
within the "To" field. There is no longer a '+' beside any of them. They
are also rejected by the SMTP server with the following message:
501 <1st Year Candidates 2009>: "@" or "." expected after "1st"
These same lists worked fine just yesterday. I have "Detected and Repaired"
to no avail. I assume there is some problem with extracting the individual
addresses from the list, but do not know how to proceed. Any ideas?

Attaching Contacts to new email
Creating a new email. When contacts folder has "shared" contacts and
"personal" contacts how can you set your personal contacts as the default?
Example: creating a new email having never addressed the "send to" contact
before, you hit the "To" button. Currently my "shared" contacts opens up but
I would like my "personal" contacts page to open instead of having to drop
down to "contacts" to bring up that list.
Is there a solution to this?

why does the 'full name' sometime first-last and other last-first
some of my contacts list the fullname as John Doe and others as Doe John. In
every case, I have compared the detailed edit entries for the full name and
John is the First Name while Doe is the Last Name. I always file as Doe,
John.

Linking Contacts in Two Folders
I am currently working for a client who uses one Outlook account for all her small business and personal e-mailing needs. That being said, her contact folder contains approximately 1,000 contacts, which include both her personal and business related contacts. She is using Outlook 2007 with Exchange, so we have the ability to share contact folders, but she only wants to share her business contacts and not her personal contacts.
This would be FINE, if she didn't have a large overlap of personal and business contacts.

Linking contacts
Is there a way I can link contacts in Outlook 2007 across several users, so
any changes made to a contact update in all users contacts??
We use categories at present, but still have to change the contact several
times over in each users contacts.
When sending a press release, we use the category and maje sure the details
are current - we would like a way ideally of creating a master list for press
release that updates any changes automatically.

Creating fields with the same name in a Contact form
I have split the contact name in the form to Title, First Name and Last Name.
I am trying to do the same for Spouse and therefore there are three
duplicated field names. Is there any way of making these fields unique so
that by filling in one of them e.g. First Name for the contact, it doesn't
automatically populate the First Name for the Spouse (partner)?

Printing contacts finally partially repaired
Two printing problems with Outlook 2007, the first solved, the second still
not solved.
First:
So, finally, I don't know when, Outlook was repaired such that one could
print out individual contacts as detailed address cards. This was broken for
quite some time.
Anyway, now those of us who choose to print out copies of address books are
once again rewarded with this possibility.
BUT..there is always a but, Outlook does not yet completely properly format
the printing for all of the book and booklet possibilities which the software
presents, especially for doing double-sid

Contact searching issues withing mailmerge
While selecting contacts withing mail merge, when i click a contact it will
switch back to the last selected contact. When i re-select the contact i
wanted, it changes again. Has anyone else had this issue or know of any

How do I e-mail a whole category?
For Privacy I need to treat all or some of a category as BCC so that no-one
knows who else is a recipient. Can this be done? How do I mail a whole

Contact with shortcut to other item - shortcut gives MailMsgAtt er
Software pre-installed on new PC:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit & Office Basic 2007 + SP2 and all latest updates
In Outlook 2007 can create Contacts and on Insert tab use Attach Item and
select Insert as Shortcut and choose any Mail or Contact item to insert icon
into Notes.
Double-left-click on this inserted shortcut icon to open attached item often
gives error message:
"The program used to create this object is MailMsgAtt. That program is not
installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program
that can open the object."

need to share contacts to certain users on my domain
My boss wants a group for all the senators when he opens his address list.
But he does not want everyone on campus E-Mailing them. I need to know how I
could get a shared folder or address book with all the senators information
in a distribution list that only certain users can access? I hope this makes
since. Using Exchange 2003, outlook 2007.

Mail Mergenot working in Outlook 07
Hi,
I have used Outlook 03 numerous times to send out mass emails to our
customers, but recently switched to Outlook 07. When I try to send out my
newsletter, if it works at all, one of two things happen, a group of ten or
so names (out of 2400) will go, then the merge just stops! More often, I get
a message saying Outlook doesn't recognize SMTP , and I get that for each
address, which I stop after a dozen or so. What am I doing wrong? I am using
Windows XP SP3, and Outlook 07

How to restore Auto-Fill with e-mail address
Yes, for some reason, all of my e-mail addresses do not come up anymore
when I try to send a new e-mail. Before, I could just type the first
letter of an address, and all of the previous e-mails that started with
that letter would come up, and I could then select which one I wanted.
For some reason, those are now missing. Is there a way to retrieve
those? I know that the nk2 is still on the computer, but I don't know
how to access it and retrieve the e-mail addresses. Also, I checked to
see if the auto complete box was still checked and it was. Any
assistance would be appreciated. Th

Can't use Contacts folder following move from XP to Windows 7
I purchased a new computer on Windows 7, installed Office 2003 and copied
across all the files including the .pst ones from my old computer which was
on XP. Outlook is working fine in every respect except when creating a new
message within Mail: it does not recognise the names from my Contacts folder
(error message "Microsoft Office Outlook does not recognize xxx" . If I open
the Contacts folder and select a contact, I can create "New Message to
Contact".

Delegate can't see the user's contact list to create distribution
I have setup a user to be the delegate for her manager's contact list and she
wants to add a distribution list to her manager's contacts but when she tries
to add members to the distribution list she only sees her own contact list
and the Global Address List. Our setup is Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007.

Re-formatting toolbars in contacts
I have re-formatted the layout and icons of the toolbars on one of the
contacts in my Contacts folder. However, that doesn't mean that the same new
layout applies to my other contact entries in the folder.
Is there a way to reshape the toolbar layout for ALL of the contacts in my
folder?
The Outlook version is 2003.

Searching for a company name only one contact with that name will show up.
For example I have 5 contacts called hunter. Hunter/lab, hunter/library etc.
When I use : Search address book only the first of the five listings will
show up.
I have all of them saved as file as: hunter/...
Is there anything I can do about this?

How to I get my "contacts" to my personal address book?
I recently installed MS Office 2007 and am using Outlook as my email client;
however, although I was able to somehow import email addresses into Contacts
and can see them there, they are not in any address book that I can use to

How to update large contact files
I have over 3,000 contacts in my Outlook database and cannot find any
software or service with which to verify/update the contacts. I am
looking for something like Plaxo, with which I could send out an email
to all my contacts to verify their information. The contact clicks on
the link and can update their information. Those that do not respond, I
can delete. Plaxo has a 1,000 contact limit for its service. Any help?
