I can see the header details for the elements gallery (Smart Art / Word Art etc) but cannot open the "next level" - eg. in Document Elements, I cannot access Header / Footer options and in Word Art cannot access the different text options (eg 3D) - these options disply OK in both Excel and P/point - HELP!!

Confirm that Office is fully updated to 12.2.3 & that you're at 10.5.8 with
OS X. Run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, restart your Mac & see if
the situation continues.

If it does, is this a new installation (one which has been this way all
along) or was the Gallery working OK but has now stopped?

If it's a new development what else may have changed on your Mac at around
the same time? New software, utility, helpers/haxies installed,
moving/removing anything in the MS Office 2008 folder?

I seem to have the same problem as well. The Elements Gallery worked fine until I tried it today. Running Disk Utility did not help. Trying to insert the Document Elements (Table of Contents, Bibliography) from the Insert menu does not work either. Please help!

Confirmed versions of Office Word is 12.2.3 and OS X 10.5.8. To the best of my knowledge, this is "new" problem - ie it used to work (can't recall exactly when it stopped working, as I use it intermittently) and I don't believe that there has been any changes to the Office 20058 folder...so, am I destined to never see the Gallery again??

Thanks for your suggestions to date.

I certainly wouldn't say you'll never see it again, I'm just not yet sure
what to do to make it happen :-) This is a new one, but we'll figure it out.

Try these diagnostics first & reply with findings for each:

1- Hold Shift while launching Word.

2- Log out, hold Shift while you log in, then launch Word as usual.

3- Create a new User Account, log in & launch Word.

Dear CyberTaz,

Tried option 1 - hold shift/launch Word - no effect; the "formatting palette" appeared at launch, which is not normal, but still no elements gallery.
Re Options 2 & 3 - this Mac is a single user system (ie no individual A/C's exist...other than mine) - do I need to complete these steps? If yes, I don't even know how to create a new account - sorry, bit new to this sort of game...any clues would be appreciated.

Thanks again for your help..

Yes, those diagnostic steps would be most helpful in determining where the
problem actually lies. Until that's determined it's pointless to simply
throw mud at the wall hoping some will stick :-)

#2 is simple as long as you know what your OS X password is... Just go to
the Apple Menu, select Log Out & confirm Yes if necessary. Then type your
password & hold Shift while you complete the log in.

#3 requires going to System Preferences - Accounts to create a new User
Account. Complete instructions are available in OS X Help - as you'll see,
it isn't difficult at all. In fact, it's highly advisable that you do so
anyway rather than continuing to operate as the Admin User.
