I have one web site I print out pages from that somehow makes all of the
fonts fade on the printed copy to appear almost like shadows. Is there
some printing strategy I can use (e.g., print to Adobe Acrobat, print option
in MSIE 8, etc) that would force all of the text on the web page to print as
bold?

Hi,
Try
View>Style>No Style
or
On the Print Dialog (File>Print) select the Printer Properties button and
change your printer mode to Black and White printing.
Post back with the web site address you are trying to print for a more
specific answer.
Regards.
