Internet Explorer cannot display this feed

 • Follow

The feeds section works for about a day before reverting to 'Internet
Explorer cannot display this feed' . After removing allthe feeds and starting
over for the 7th or 8th time I guess it is time to give up. This is not the
only problem in IE8. Stopped using IE 8 years ago but thought it was worth a
try with a new computer and Windows 7. BIG BIG mistake. There is obviously no
answer to the problem as nobody gets a response from MS. Typical.

I, for one, have no clue what you're complaining about. I'm not having any
problems that even begin to look like what you're complaining about. Given
the facts as I know them, and as you are reporting, I'd have to guess that
you'te the problem. But, that's just me, I suppose.

PS
You did not stop using IE 8 "years" ago. It's a new program, months on the
street, not years. Which makes you a troll.

You may be as dumb as a stick. Click on favorites, there are 3 tabs:
favorites, feeds and history. When you add a feed to here from the feed
button to the right of the home page button, it then shows up on the feed
list. Unfortunately every 24 hours or so, you are unable to access the feeds
from the feed tab within favorites as you get the message 'INTERNET EXPLORER
CANNOT DISPLAY THIS FEED'. Is that clear enough. My error in saying IE '8'
years ago. A mere typo error - including the 8 - (now you can dis my typing
skills as well) as I have used either Opera of Firefox to combat the weird
workings of IE.
I was actually looking for possible answers but you are trolling because you
possible don't have a life!

Hi,

Right click on the Feed Item in the Favorites Center pane and select
Properties from the context menu.

Check that THAT feed is correctly formed with a valid refresh period. or
post back with the Address of the Feed for us to have a look at.

If this is happening for all of your Feed items, then post back as such. (I
am assuming that this is happening only on one or more of your feeds,
because they are malformed).

"'INTERNET EXPLORER
> CANNOT DISPLAY THIS FEED'" indicates that the address is incorrect or you
> have installed another Feed Reader application that is hijacking the IE

So my guess (MTL) is that you have either upgraded an XP machine to Win7 and
have brought along some programs that are incompatible with IE8 or you have
a clean Win7 install and are trying to transfer programs from your old
computer to the new.

That’s ok, but before you go any further, ensure that any programs you
transfer over are the latest available from the Vendor. Particularly the
Google Toolbar. You can get v6 from Toolbar.google.com. Another common Addon
that needs upgrading before an IE8 install is Skype. If you have PLuck or
any other Feed reading software you no longer need them with IE8 or Windows
Mail.

This is a Public Forum. MSFT moderate the forum but rarely answer questions
directly.

We are all volunteers and misunderestimated Trolls here.

connect.microsoft.com is their formal issue reporting and tracking portal
(just like Mozilla and NASA, connect.nasa.com) but you won't find Astro Mike
or BillG there.

Machine is 4 weeks old. No programs loaded from older units. After the first
time the feeds would not load and the message appeared, I did go through the
properties and nothing seemed amiss. Had about a dozen feeds and none would
load. They also load - I'm guessing by design - into the Windows Live mail
program and there is no problem accessing the feeds there although it seems
rather inconvenient. Of course that may be the glitch. Solving the problem
probably is as simple as starting the feeds up in Google Reader which I used
on the old machine.
Thanks for the reply. Barry

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

 => Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in Win7? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Worth a shot:

[applies to IE8 & Win7, too]

Every time I've seen this in the past it's been due to one of the feeds
having invalid XML (for instance, the feed data has had an & included in
some text instead of &).

If you could provide a URL for one of the feeds that isn't working it might
help diagnose what the problem is.
