Recently installed IE8 on Windows XP SP3. Every time I open IE8, it disables
the phishing protection on my Norton Internet Security program. How can I
prevent that from happening, short of going back to IE7?

I'm happy for you Leonard Grey that you don't have the problem.
Unfortunately, I do. If you cannot or will not be helpful, why bother to
answer at all?

Either disable Norton Anti-Phishing or disable IE8 SmartScreen filtering
(which is what Symantec Support or the experts in
http://community.norton.com/norton/?category.id=nis would tell you).
Personally, I'd recommend uninstalling NIS & running the Norton Removal Tool
then install a less-intrusive anti-virus application.

Jim, IE already has an option called SmartScreen filter that checks websites
(akin to the Phishing filter they had in IE7). Either turn off Norton's
Phishing utility, or IE's SmartScreen Filter as this appears to be what's
happening....

Same problem here with my son's laptop, but with Vista. I saw no
reasonable fix in this thread at the time I posted this.

Contact Symantec Support or uninstall NIS & download/run the removal tool.
