Disabling reopen last browsing session

  • Follow

Is it possible to disable the annoying reopen last browsing session tabs
thingy. I am running windows 7 home premium x 64 and I don't have a Group
Policy Editor GPEdit.msc so I tried the regedit method but when I get to the
Recovery section I have two additions below this box Active and something
else. from the Recovery I added a new D Word and named it
NoReopenLastSession. and changed the value from 0 to 1 but it doesn't
work.......Why? and how the hell do I disable this feature any other way

Hi,

That prompt appears if your last session crashed and IE could not recover
the problem web page or an incompatible Addon caused the current page to
crash because of 'illegal' operations (a BEX error).

(You can turn off the auto crash recovery from Tools>Internet Options -
Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable Automatic Crash Recovery". Only do this though
if your are a developer and have a good understanding of Windows, otherwise
you may go into a loop and won't be able to recover without a hot reboot).
See the Win7/IE troubleshooting instructions below.

Restrictions\NoReopenLastSession applies to the Tools>Reopen last Browsing
session menu.

x86 and x64 versions of IE use different keys in the registry hive.

Fix your (assumed) x86 IE crashing.

In Win7

Start>Control Panel>Action Center>Troubleshooting>Internet Explorer
Performance

More than likely it will be an Incompatible Addon..... check with their
vendors for their latest updates. Old versions of the Google Toolbar are
known to cause this. The current (IE compatible) version is 6.

Regards.

It can also happen sometimes if you shutdown without first closing all IE
windows.
