Adobe Reader Disables IE JavaScript

  • Follow

Per a security bullentin from Adobe about Reader zero day exploits I
disabled Acrobat JavaScript from the Reader browser. I discovered that
JavaScript is also disabled in IE8 (as well as Fire Fox).

Is there anyway to restore IE8 JavaScript without restoring Reader Acrobat
JavaScript?

Thanks

And WHERE did you disable Javascript? Every web browser has its own
internal Javascript engine. Adobe Reader has its own interal Javascript
engine. None of them are the same or connected. So, again, WHERE did you
disable Javascript?

I opened the Reader program.
Click on Edit->Preferences
Catagory->JavaScript
uncheck box for "enable Acrobat JavaScript"

When you disable Adobe Javascript in the Reader "preferences" option it only
affects .pdf documents that have embedded JS, whether or not they are opened
in IE or in a standalone Adobe Reader instance. To disable Javascript in IE,
disable Active Scripting under custom settings for the respective security
zone (Internet, local Intranet, Trusted Sites).

Disabling JS in Adobe Reader does NOT disable JS in IE8.

Thank you for your answer. I had a one time experience pages were not
loading correctly but it turned out to be a coincidence rather than cause
and effect.

Thank you for your answer.

After disabling the Acrobat JavaScript, YouTube pages were not loading
normally suggesting to me something was turned off. I turned Acrobat
JavaScript back on and the pages loaded normally.

After your response, I could not repeat the problem, so it must have been a
coincidence and not cause and effect.

Thanks

That should disable only the Javascript engine internal to the Adobe Reader
program. Did you check if scripting is enabled in IE (Internet Options ->
Security -> pick a zone (like Internet), check if scripting is enabled.

Are you saying ALL Javascript gets disabled in IE? Or only Javascript
within PDF documents displayed within IE using the Activex control for Adobe
Reader? Go to:

http://www2.webkit.org/perf/sunspider-0.9/sunspider.html

and run the Javascript benchmark. Does it run?

This stuff goes in a signature (i.e., after the "-- " sigdash line). Please
use signatures to add personal fluff, if you feel the need to even add it.

I hate when that happens!

Thanks for your response.

I ran the benchmark and everything works.
Thanks for the link.
