proxy server profiles in group policy
is it possible to set a proxy server using group policy only when the user is
inside the office network but shut it off when they leave? I know you can do
this with the windows firewall (they allow a standard and a domain profile so
when the system starts inside the network, the firewall is shut down.)
Our users with laptops have to manually remove and add the proxy everytime
they leave and come back into the office.

IE8 not supporting ALT TAB when logging into remote machine
when using IE8 to login into our remote machine, we are not able to use the
ALT+TAB keys together to toggle between the screens, which can be normally
used in windows (not while remote logging) and also works in the remote
machine as well when using IE6 or IE7 versions.
How to overcome this problem? If we are using Windows 7 by-default we have
IE8 so all windows 7 users trying to login remotely to their office machines
will have this problem and doesn't have a workaround. In Vista & XP there is
a work around to use IE7 & IE6 respectively.

If I see IE memory usage growing far beyond normal, is there a tool I
can run to see how much memory various IE add-ons are using, and
whether the abnormal memory consumption is caused by one of them?
From the point of view of Task Manager, obviously, all the memory is
just being used by "iexplore.exe" and it doesn't say what portion is
due to what add-on.
(The memory spikes happen infrequently enough, that I can't just
disable the different add-ons one at a time to see which one is
causing the problem, because it takes too long to wait for the next
memory spike to occur.)

IE8 formatting issues when accessing simple web page remotely
Hi
I am having a very strange issue with a basic HTML page in IE8.
When I run the page at: http://localhost/test.html the page content renders
fine, however, if I simply change the server name to my PC name (e.g.
http://mypcname/test.html), the layout (margins / font-sizes / padding)
renders larger and the two pages look different from eachother.
The page renders fine in Firefox 3.6 for both server names, but in IE8 the
problem arises.
Below is a simple page that illustrates the issue. If you run it with two
different server names (even though they are both on the same machin

Intternet Explorer and Internet explorer(64 bits)
Hi, in my start programs I have IE and IE (64bits). When I click the
Internet Explorer the program starts OK. However, if I click Internet
Explorer (64bits) it starts and immediately a screen comes on wanting to
install "Adobe Flash Player Installer". Question: is this Adobe thing needed
to use IE(64)?
Should I install it?
Thanks.

Hyperlinks Not Linking
Windows 7 (64 bit) - IE8
Some hyperlinks will not link. I believe the problem to be with pop ups.
Trying the same web page in XP, I get a bar at the top of the page asking if
I want to allow the pop up temporarily. Here in Win7, I don't link and I
don't get that prompt bar. I have changed the pop up settings a couple
time but nothing yet has enabled that prompt bar. What setting should
I be using?

Rad editor controls not displayed in IE8.0.7600.16385
I'm running Windows 7 and have IE8 installed (as above).
Using both 32 bit and 64 bit browsers, the Rad Editor controls (from
Telerik) are not being presented, whereas in IE8 (on XP) they are presented
fine.
Is there a difference in the settings, or has something changed inside IE8
to cause this issue?
I've checked all the Internet Options-Advanced settings, and can't see any
significant setting differences between the 2 machines.

Handling of Favorites is really bad in IE
The main reason why I'm not using IE at home is the really bad handling with

I've got two XP desktop computers and one Vista laptop computer connected to

On the other hand, Outlook 2003 works with no problems at all on both XP

Browsing Blocked
It looks like some type of virus or something has block IE8 from browsing
sites. I have turned off all add-ons, clean cache etc and nothing works. It
is also pinned to my profile. If another user logs in it works fine. How can
I fix this problem?

Intermittent failure of links
Windows XP, ie8 (or Mozilla), all latest up to date.
I can browse all day or two minutes without problems then a clicked link
will fail; clicking just seems to do nothing, sometimes the link will appear
at the bottom of the window as though loading then change to 'done'.
Generally, I can continue with other links or copy the link (from properties)
and paste in new window and it will work; once a link has failed it seems
the situation gradually gets worse until I need to close all open windows and
start again; sometimes a complete re-start is needed. Oddly, the same
problems

Starting a Java applet drives IE8 into busyloop
I have the odd effect that starting a Java applet drives IE8 into a busyloop
(i.e. one core starts going 100% busy).
Initially I thought, it's my applet, but my applet is NOT the culprit and it
is NOT busy-looping - I verified that by inserting lots of println()'s. When
it works, there are short peaks of process "javaw.exe" being active and the
println's show up on the Java console, but those are always over after at
most a few seconds. Next I had the suspicion, that some java script code
that surrounded my applet was faulty, but I removed everything else and the
page now read

Will removing a newer version of IE removes all the "favorites" sa
Hi all,
I have recently upgraded my Internet Explorer to version 8 but found that
some websites do not work properly with it. I'm wondering if I uninstall this
version 8 and go back to re-install version 6, will all my "favourites" (i.e.
links to my favourite websites) saved in the existing version 8 of IE be
transferred to version 6 automatically? I'm afraid of losing all the
"favourites" here if I uninstall any version of IE. Thanks.

IE8 64 Bit Version
I am using Win 7 64 bit and when I try to use IE8 64 bit version I always get
a message about installing Adobe Flash Player and when I answer yes to
install and download nothing appears to happen and then the next time I start
IE8 64 bit I get the same prompts. When I look in the add-ons (all-ad-ons)
adobe does not appear.
Please advise how I can eliminate the problem and also a long time ago I was
led to believe there was some sort of problem with the Adobe add on has it
been resolved.
Also, is there any reason I would be better off using the 32 bit version of
IE8?

IE 8 - additional open windows problem
Hi,
Problem (if it is a problem, well, for me it is a problem!) is that
when I'm on a page in IE 8 and click on something that opens in a
second window (like a news article), the second window is about 1/3
the size of the full window. I have to enlarge it to see the whole
article, video, or whatever. This gets a bit repetitive & tiresome,
not to mention annoying. I'd rather have the second window open to
full size but can't figure out if there's a setting to control it, and
if so, which one.
Any help appreciated!!
Cheers,
AB

Facebook, IE8, Windows 7 and Addons
I updated to Windows 7 about a week ago. For the first few days, Facebook
site was working fine. Now I cannot login ... it throws an error telling me
that I don't have cookies enabled in my browser (even though I do).
What I have tried:
-- running "IE8 with addons disabled" (this works)
-- configuring IE8 so that all known addons are disabled (this doesn't work)
-- using https://www.facebook.com instead of http://www.facebook.com (this
works)
-- uninstalling and reinstalling Java, Flash, Shockware, etc (none of this
made any difference)
-- full virus/malware scans with both A

IE8 on Windows 7 can create new Windows or new Tabs
Okay, I have been running Windows 7 since December and last week I noticed I
had problems opening a new window or new tab in IE8. I have tried EVERYTHING.
I registered dll's, reset the browser, deactivated/uninstalled IE8, shut off
protected mode, messed with security zones you name it. I have been scouring
the web for an answer. I enabled script debugging and saw that the site(s)
were trying to do a window.open and the error that came back was no such
interface supported.
What can I do to fix this? It is inhibiting me from logging onto websites
that I use at work that need to
