Year End Update
During the 2009 YE Webinar, the presenter mentioned the IRS was scheduled to
announce changes on 12/15 which may cause another YE update to be needed.
Did that occur? If so, is another YE update needed?

For Canadian payroll, yes. The US year end update is still the same.

Charles,
We have a Customer who is very leery of applying the year end update.
They would like to wait until mid January to apply the file. What are the
implications of them waiting? I know the instructions list it prior to
creating the year end wage file.

Susan,
Depending on the state your client is located in, waiting to apply the
update may result in inaccurate tax withholding. There is no reason
to wait to apply the 2009 update. This only updates the 2009 and
previous year tax tables. They definitely do want to wait to apply
the 2010 Payroll Update until after their 2009 payrolls are completed.

Thank you Frank - aren't the tax table updates a separate piece? The year
end update file includes the most recent SP which sometimes seems to cause an
issue.

Yes, the 2010 Update is separate. I understand their hesitance to
apply hotfix/SPs at this point in the year. That's why I would look
at the 2009 updates and see if I could live without doing it until
after year end.
