Using Payable to write checks only?

  • Follow

Hello everybody -
We have a subsidiary that needs to write checks, the actual accounting will
be done in another accounting [old unix] accounting system - but that system
does not have any check writing ability [long story] until now they never had
to write checks...I would like to setup a new company in GP with just the
Payable Management module in GP to write checks , and print check reports and
not bother with GL postings? They just need to write checks and do a
reconcilliation between the PM module in GP and their old unix accounting
system. I will be importing their clients and vendors into GP as well via
smartconnect. What are your thoughts on this. Moving them over to the full
blown GP system is not possible just yet due to time, budget and heavy
reorganization. This is a temporary measure to get them 'check writing'
quickly.

I've done this with a company that needed to cut garnishment checks in
GP even though all the accounting and GL entries were done in a
separate payroll system. Turn off posting to/through the GL in the AP
series. You might still have to put in a default dummy accounts to
make everything work in a few places.

How does legacy GL system get updated? Think about that before turn
off posting in AP
