GP10 Client cannot open Dynamics Utilities

  • Follow

We are in the process of trying to upgrade from GP9.0 to GP10.0. The server
installation is complete and I have been able to install GP10.0 on a few
workstations that did NOT have GP9.0 installed on them. These fresh installs
ran smoothly and everything is working fine.

However, I tried upgrading a workstation that had GP9.0 installed on it and
had all sorts of problems. I eventually ended up uninstalling 9.0, deleting
the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP folder, and installing 10.0.
There were no errors during the installation itself.

Now I am trying to run Dynamics Utilities and it will not get past the
Dynamics GP splash screen while in the taskbar it shows the Dynamics icon
with the caption "ERROR". Checking the event viewer, there are 3 SidebySide
errors (IDs 59 & 32) referencing the MFC80.dll file.

Has anyone ever seen this before and is there a fix?

MFC80.dll is a standard MS dll. My trouble shooting would start with
comparing the version and locations on one of the working computers and the
ones that aren't.

We've figured out the problem here. For some reason, Dynamics 10.0 has
trouble opening (either utilities or Dynamics itself) when a Dell AIO printer
is set as the user's default printer. As long as the Dell printer is set as
the windows default, Dynamics freezes at the opening splash screen and
MsiInstaller errors (EventID: 10005) are logged in the application log. If
you change the default printer or stop the print spooler, Dynamics opens
without problems.

We are using GP 10.0 SP4. Is this the latest version? Has this problem
been documented yet and is there a hotfix? We really need our users to have
their local printers as their defaults.
