I am getting this message as soon as I launch GP 10 sp4 on 1 client
workstation. I get this with any .set file and when launching dynamics.exe
directly. I have copied the GP installed folder from a known good machine,
and am thinking I will just uninstall\reinstall, however, under add\remove
programs I can only "Change". I am running as a domain admin and tried
launching setup from the installation media to do a repair, or even install
another instance of GP but running setup.exe just hangs. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

What is the workstation configuration? RAM? Disk? Speed?
Also, try changing the workstation's default printer. I seem to remember
someone having this problem with an invalid printer set as the default
printer for the workstation.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the reply. I Changed the default printer but same reults. The
machine is winXP x32 with a 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo chip, 3GB RAM and a 232GB HD
with 177GB Free. The only thing I just found out is that the latest round of
windows updates were recently installed. Could a windows update have caused
this?
thanks,
Rob

Did you upgrade your forms and reports dictionaries? Try renaming these to
see if the problem persists.

Rob,
Were named printers recently set up on this workstation? Or on the
workstation you copied the GP install folder from? I know this sometimes
caused a problem in GP 9.0, I have not seen it in 10.0 yet.....but may be
worth checking. KB 909739 describes the steps to resolve this.

Hi Mariano,
I updated the reports.dc path in the set file from the server to local where
there is no actual reports.dic and same issue. There is also no modified
forms.dic. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thank you for the suggestion, however, named printers are not in use, and the
tag referenced by the article was not in the dex.ini file. I added it and set
to false, but still no luck. I am going to open a case with Partnersource. I
will post the resolution.
thanks,

I've seen this before and in my case it didn't have anything to do with the
GP install, it was .dll problems with another program (Outlook). There was an
error in the Registry also. A couple of questions along that line.
Is there a 'Here' button or 'Other' button on the error dialog?
Are there any programs installed on this machine that may not have been
installed on the others?
What version of Microsoft Office is installed. I have seen this problem come
up with outlook as the culprit. If you take Outlook off of the home page does
that work?
To remove Outlook:
UPDATE A SET COLNUMBR = 0, SEQNUMBR = 0, Visible = 0 FROM
DYNAMICS.dbo.SY08100 A WHERE (SectionID = 2) AND
(DICTID = 0) AND ((COLNUMBR <> 0) OR (SEQNUMBR <> 0) OR (Visible <> 0))
I got good information from a post on this issue. You might want to check
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/Businesssolutions/Community/Newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.greatplains&mid=b4836c9c-33f1-44ce-b4f5-8afbd9b95603&sloc=en-us
It will be interesting if Tech Support can give you an answer. We could use
it, I bet it's Outlook. Let us know what happens!
Good Luck
