I'm trying to use the PSTL Account Modifier / Combiner with GP 10 and have 
some issues.  I hope some of you wonderfully wise people can help!

Issue 1:  I'm running the Modifier using the Import functionality.  I was 
able to process the first batch - about 2500 records.  When I try to start 
the 2nd batch, I hit the wall.  I can run the Validate process and the 
accounts validate fine.  When I try to start the Import process, however, I 
keep getting a message to run the Validate process.  No matter how many times 
I run the Validate process, I can't start the import process. When I clos the 
PSTL window, the Modified Accounts list from the 1st batch runs again.  Is 
this because I didn't run check links and delete GL00105 and the g32 files or 
is there something else going on?

Issue 2:  We are trying to the chart structure from  XXXX - X - XXX - XXXXXX
  to  X - X - XXX - XXXX.  We're shringking Segments 1 and 4 and segment 1 
is actually being remapped to segment 4.  Is this doable with the Account 
Modifier or do we need to be looking at Re-Formatter or is this another way 
to do this?

1.  KB article 857067 has tips for this problem.  The one I found to be an 
issue is Be sure to hit the return key after entering the final account.  
That one frustrated me for a while.  Other things to look for include use 
dashes no matter what your separator actually is,  save the spreadsheet as 
tab delimited and verify there is a tab between the accounts by opening the 
file in Notepad.  

2.  The account structure depends on the master account format when Dynamics 
GP was installed.  If one of your new segments is larger than the maximum 
system format for that segment you will need Reformatter.  Looking at your 
new format, all of the segments are the same or smaller than before so you 
should be okay and Account Modifier will work for your situation.

Hi,

As an addendum to Claude's answer, If you are trying to shrink account 
segments in an existing company format you have to use some undocumented 
features. I have done it, and it works. You would have to run Modifier and 
make sure no accounts exist that have numbers in excess of the format you 
want. After that you need to run the system reconcile utility on the Account 
Format Setup table.

Standard functionality is that you cannot 'shrink' a segment after you have 
entered any accounts - you can only grow it. However, I have found the above 
method works quite well.

MAKE A BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before attempting this.

Leslie and Claude,

Thanks for both your answers.  I'm much further down the road now....but 
still not quite there.  I got the Modifier to run for my whole dataset.  The 
only issue I have is with the non-posting accounts.  There appears to be 
about 400 such accounts.  The Combiner won't convert them.  They are st still 
in the old format.  From Leslie's post, I guess I can't run the system 
reconciler with account in the system that still use the old COA structure.

Is there a table I can update to mark the accounts as Posting Accounts?  Any 
other ideas?
