email addresses based on phone number
Hoping to be able to automatically generate email addresses based on phone
number. 1234567890@this.domain.com
The idea is to have an address to which text messages can be easily sent.
Many employees can receive but not send on their cell phones. Texting from,
say, Outlook would be great.
Workarounds welcome. I'm sure this isn't the only way.

Ghost Mailbox Causing Bounces (duplicate messages) - Exchange 2007
Hi,
I just ran into a rather strange issue. When sending to a particular
user, some people are getting bounces saying that two users in our org
have the same email address. When I do a search in the EMC, I find
two user objects with same email address. One is a typical "User
Mailbox" object in this persons regional domain. In other words, it's
the valid account. The other is an object type called "Mail User" in
a completely different domain in the same forest. It's the same
domain our Exchange servers are on.
When I try to delete the object or even view properties, it tells

Currently, we have a user that manages two mailboxes, his own and a

is if he responds to any emails within the group mailbox, and chooses
to send FROM the group mailbox, when the message is sent Outlook drops
the message into his personal mailbox, rather than the group mailbox.
Normally this would be okay, but since this same mailbox is managed by

Anyone have any suggested changes/improvements - ie: is 512MB standard

Hi all,
I have two exchange 2003 SP2 servers. Some new users with mail boxes on

If I move a faulty mailbox to server b, all their external email comes into

the backup and sure enough it had not run for 2 weeks. I ran a manual backup
and presto the log files are gone. Still have the problem though. I have 248

Deploying Exchange 2010 on 2000 AD
Hello:

3. Deploy Exchange 2010 on the 2008 domain

Is this possible? If so does anyone know of any TechNet docs on it?

Exch2007: Server-side mailbox rules still run with account disabled
Hi,
It looks like this may be alarming be an alarming flaw in Exchange
security at least for my company's processes in regards to term'ed

forwards all their incoming to an external address, that rule stays
active even after disabling the mailbox. Is there a way to prevent
this globally, or are we going to need to manually go into every

I have questions to anyone who has migrated to 2010 and coexisted for a
period of time with 2003. The 'Exchange Server Deployment Assistant'
states "..create a legacy DNS host name so your legacy Exchange
environment...can coexist". Why can't I keep my current host name and
create new ones for 2010 access?
Also, it states to point this host name to my 2003 box. Here's my question
on this. I have one Public IP (right now at least). I have a WatchGuard FB
x550e. I posted a Q in WatchGuard's forum to ask if I can put in a rule to
point urlA.domain.com to one Internal IP an

OWA 2007 - Password changes
Hi All
Would someone be so kind to clarify the password changing issues for OWA2007
for me please?
OWA 2007 on backend Exchange 2007 (separate servers).
OWA running on W2K3 SP2 R2 IIS6 and using Forms based security.
We would like to enable expired and change password at next logon feature
through OWA, AND allow extended ASCII (as we've already told the business
that symbols are an allowed option). Can you tell that we've recently
updated our password complexity rules!
This is an extremely useful blog:

How to install SP2 on followed by rollup 4
How to install SP2 followed by rollup 4 on a mailbox server which is
configured as exchange passive node as a single node windows 2008 cluster?
This server is in our DR site and will be used only on Disaster Recovery
senario. I am familar with how to install SP2 on CCR --passive node -- update
via power shell commands etc.
This is urgent so any information will be very helpful.

Exchange 2010 SAN Certificate
I am doing a migration to Exchange 2010. I need to acquire a SAN Cert, but
I'm a little confused as to what info I need in order to process the cert.
Let's say I have a single Exchange 2010 Server that I want to do Outlook
Anywhere, Webmail, and Mobile support. My server (internal) is
dvs00.domain.local. My current public DNS record is exch.domain.com. Is
this the proper CSR command?:
Set-Content -path "C:\exch_domain_com" -Value
(New-ExchangeCertificate -GenerateRequest -KeySize 2048 -SubjectName "c=US,
s=Washington, l=Seattle, o=COMPANY, cn=exch.domain.com" -DomainName

Prompt when sending to Distribution List
We have an Exchange 2003 with 2003 Active Directory environment. We have a
distribution list that sends to all mailboxes in our organization and
recently we've had some users inadvertently sending to this list. We DO NOT
want to lock down who can send to the list (which would be the easy fix) and
during a brainstorming session we were asked if we can have Outlook prompt
the user with something like, "Are you really sure you want to send this to
Everyone?" Is there anything in Exchange or Outlook that would create a
prompt when selecting a certain distribution list?

outlook over vpn
Hi there,
I'm having problems with intermittent connections when using outlook over an
SSL VPN - note we are not using RPC over HTTP. My remote users connect in
via an SSL VPN and then open outlook like they were in the office. We are
using outlook 2007 and exchange 2003. It is a watchguard ssl100 vpn.
This works 75% of the time. Using the "connection status" option in outlook
shows that the it cannot establish a connection to either the DC or the
exchange server. However I can make a remote desktop connection across the
VPN to both servers - i.e. the VPN is allowing traffic.
