Removing Exchange 2003 by force
Hi All,
I have an old exchange server in the domain. This domain has been fine for
about 5 years. The initial domain was done on a Windows 2000 SBS server (not
sure which version of exchange this is).
Anyway, we have Windows 2008 R2 servers and Windows 2003 R2 servers in the
mix now and this server has been removed for quite sometime. However, the
exchange data is still in AD.
The reason I am asking to remove this is because we wish to install Exchange
2010 in to the domain and it's wanting to install a routing group to this
non existing domain server. I don't want to have

Sent Mail Monitoring
Here's the scenario:
We have a customer service department sending emails to customers.
Their management has asked for a method by which they can easily
monitor the mail that these users send and if necessary respond to
either the sender with comments or respond to the customer with
additional content.
Is there a way to do this? I'm thinking I should be able to set up
something so that all emails from these users are somehow bcc'd to a
specific "moderator"/manager mailbox from which the manager can handle
this.
Just so everyone knows...the folks in customer service WILL know th

Old out of office message being sent
I have a growing problem where my users Out of Office is sending an old

I know you can try and use the cleanrules swicth as well as try and edit it
via OWA.
My question is why is this happening? We recenly migrated to XP and used the
Outlook migration wizard. Could have casued this?
My cusotmer is driving me crazy wanting to know why.

Automatic reply to external addresses
I have some users wanting to have an automatic reply to all messages sent to
a few specific mailboxes. We have always disallowed this in the past because
of the potential for mail loops.
Can automatic replies to an external address even be allowed in Exchange

third-party products that would keep Exchange 2007 from replying to an
automatic reply?
Thank you.

So we've just completed a review of all our distribution lists - many had no

Using Veritas netbackup exchange agent to backup - unfortunately, the tape

doing nightly full backups forever, but think it's time to change (until
ultrium 5 comes out soon, and bossman lets me buy).
Does any see a flaw in this plan - I do a full on Friday, and cumulative

mis-matched MAPI32.DLL & CDO.DLL

Is this an issue? Should I put the newer version files on the back-end
clustered servers?

Out of Office not working
All of a sudden, numerous users are reporting that they cannot change their
out of office messages. Or to put it more accurately, they make a change
(for example, turning OOO off), and it looks like it took the change, but
the system still keeps sending OOO messages. I had them try to make the
change via OWA, and same result... it looks like it took the change, but has
no effect. We are running Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007. Have any of you
seen this before, and do you know what I can do? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Setting up another account outlook 2007
I have a user on exchange 2003sp2 and outlook 2007. He wants an account
where he can send from for an account at another domain which is hosted by a

him to send from this account in his outlook 2007. Im thinking just add an

Any better methods??

Hello,

When staff in the NY office send appointment requests to NY-based

Is this because of the DST update or just the wrong timezone setting?

Exchange created a routing group connector to Exchange 2003 so I can send
and receive mail. All good.
Now I installed 2 additional 2007 Mailbox servers and 2 additional 2007 CAS
and HUB servers. I want to move the exchange 2003 connector to the new HUB
servers so I can remove the HUB role from my first server.
Is there any way I can do this? can I add more than 1 server to the
connector?
Thanks in advance

Exchange 2010 Database Size
I'm experimenting with Exch 2003 -> 2010 migration in my test lab, and I have
a couple of questions:
1. The mailbox database is about 50 GB on disk in Exchange 2003. In
Exchange 2010 it's over 100 GB! Is this normal? Is this because the page
size has increased?
2. Since this database is over 100 GB, I'm inclined to break it up into
smaller DBs. What's the best practice here? MS documentation now says
Exchange 2010 can support DBs up to 2 TB (!) but I suspect that something
much smaller is actually ideal. Suggestions?
Thank you!

Exchange 2003 dumpster
1. each store has its own dumpster?
2. is there a default setting for the size limit? How to change it?
3. how to check current dumpster size for a store?
4. if I set a limit and the dumpster reached the limit? will it delete items
from oldest? I do have a system policy for deleted items for 14 days. But I
guess the oldest items will be deleted based on the dumpster size limit or
retention policy whichever met first, right.
5. could I set dumpster without size limit? I'd like to control it based on
item age not its size.
6. if the system policy is set 14 days and the store lim

Room mailbox
I created a room mailbox in Exchange 2007 and set up all the permissions and
it's working well. By default, the room mailbox is a disabled account.
We currently have a "Company" address list, filtered by the description
field. None of the disabled accounts (including room accounts) are listed in
the "Company" Address List. Is this by design?
Currently, the only way to see the room account in the Address Book or
meeting request is to choose GAL or "All Rooms" address list.
Is there a way to have the room account be in the "Company" address list but
still keep it as a roo

Annoying windows dialog box!
I have moved all mailboxes from one Exchange 2003 server to another. OWA
works fine but users who have rpc over https configured keep getting a
windows dialog box popping up asking for credentials to the old exchange
server. The old server has yet to be removed from the network and is
currently turned off
Any ideas??
Thanks

Exchange 2007 event ID 12017 and 12018 (and my certs)
Hi,
Just when I thought Exchange was running smoothly, I start getting these
errors in event log (12017 and 12018) which I now know are some internal self
signed certificates about to lapse.
I did some reading and found out more about these certificates by issuing a
get-exchangecertificate.
As best I can see there are 6 certificates. I dont know if this is mucking
around during the original setup, or if there is some other purpose for all
these certificates (6 lines called AccessRules).
Some of these have services against them, and some dont. Some services are
listed und

Please help with Exchange 2003 SMTP Connector
I'm trying to create an SMTP Connector in Exchange Server 2003, to have our
company's email sent out (Internet/External emails) to a specific mail
forwarder server (the "specific" server is our ISP/Firewall provider
server). But I'm having problems understanding how to set this up properly
with our Exchange 2003 Server, I know I have to create a new SMTP Connector
but not sure what settings to make. Could someone please help me with this.
Thanks

Message formatting when sending internet email
Hello all,
We've got an Oracle system which email out notification to customers and
internally to our staff.
When an email is sent internally it uses basic text and the formatting is
preserved. When sending externally (tested with hotmail and gmail + a
customers emailclient - unknown as yet what this is) the formatting changes
and text is shifted around.
Example below sent internally:

disable logons to Exchange
Hi -
I'm trying to disable logons to Exchange. I made a registry entry and
this kept Outlook from making a MAPI connection. A number of folks
have iPhones and these make http connections. I shut down IIS and this
didn't take them away. I didn't restart the Information Store which is
my next step but I thought I would ask some experts about the way to
do this.
Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2003...Queues...Find Messages...icons?
I regularily view messages that have been in the queue on Exchange 2003. If I select one of the domains of the
messages in the queue and do a find messages I get a window with the various messages. The messages will
have an icon beside them that varies. I am unable to find any documentation to describe the significance of the
various icons under sender. Here are a few that I have seen:
1) A normal envelope
2) An envelope with a red circle around a red square in the lower right corner
3) no icon
Anyone now where I can find a description of these and there significance?
TIA
