How do I?
I was asked to create a scatter graph of # of transactions in a year under
discount bucket categories and then a second access that shows the cumulative
$$'s associated with those.
I have 5 categories for the discounts:
<0%
0-5%
6-10%
11-15%
>15%

charts 2003 vs 2007
I made a bar chart with 2 data axis in excel 2003. Some of employees have
changed to excel 2007 and some in 2003. I have excel 2007 and when I send
out the charts in an email, the 2007 users chart looks fine. The excel 2003
users have both axis labels on the same side. This is from the same sent
email.

Making a Bubble Chart with 4 variables instead of 3
Bubble charts allow for 3 variable (x, y, and z). Is it possible to add a
4th dimension to Excel Bubble Charts (w, x, y, and z)? What I want to do is
make a "pizza slice" in the bubble." For example if each bubble represents
an entire US industry (furniture, electronics, etc...), then I want to make a
slice in each bubble showing the size of a specific sub-section of the
industry. For example, if the whole bubble is the electronics industry, then
I want the slice to represent the percentage of the industry that is, let's
say, Sears electronics sales. Is that possible? If no

How can I insert a hyperlink into a bar of a bar chart, for instance? I read
on MSFT's help page that, "You can also insert hyperlinks in specific chart

Column Chart Conditional Formatting
I have a column chart that compares 2 y values against a common x value. I
want to compare the second y value to the first, if it is greater then make
that bar green, if less then red, if same grey. Any ideas on how to go about
this?

Is it possible to use image files instead of points in a X-Y chart?
Dear colleagues
I work as product manager and frequently I have to prepare a X-Y chart
comparing the prices of the competitors products.
Instead of using a legend, I want show the pictures of the real products.
Actually, once the chart is ready I have copy-paste every picture.
Do you know if it is possible to do that automatically in Excel 2007 ?

Stacked column in 3D
I have 9 data rows and 3 columns representing the dates.
I insert a stacked column in 3D, it gives default min to max dates. But when
I fix the vertical column values to my dates (which ranges 40296 - 40320 with
2.0 major unit) it does not show stacking of 3rd column. I also change the
data to dates and cell format to dates. I can even send the file if someone
can help me plz.

In a Line-column graph on 2 axes, how do I stack the columns?
In a line-column gaph in Excel 2003, I need to stack 2 columns on the y axis,
leaving the line on the right hand axis unchanged. can i do this in chart
types, or can I set up my data table some way that this will happen
automatically? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Updating from 2003 to 2007: axis labels overwriting
Hi
We have some Excellbooks wih 200-300 plots. These were looking
allright in Excell 2003, but in Excell 2007 the labels on the y-axis
on many of the plots, have become so "tight", that they are
overwriting each other, and impossible to read.
It is possibe to go through each plot and change the settings for the
Y-axis, but hope there is an easier way to fix it.
Is this a known issue?

Excel 2007: X-axis labeling
Excel 2007 all MS updts
I have a line chart of y-axis values and x-axis dates. The both axes get
their data from the same Excel worksheet with the y-axis 'like temperatures'.
That is, values vary (oscillate from + to - and - to + back (but not
sinusoidal, just an oscillation back and forth around the y=0 line).
The issue is that the x-axis is displayed (vertically) with ALL the dates
overwriting each other for a 2 year period of time. All my data is daily
M-F. Hence, for the y=0 line ALL the daily dates are bunched up. These
dates then overlay the actual data.

Getting data point from an accel chart
I have an excel chart that I want to get the data points(x,y) from.
The source data refers to cells in the same sheet, but I don't see any cell
in that work sheet. Only the chart.
I can run the cursor over the line and get the x,y coordinates for each point.
I would like to copy the x,y values, to reproduce the curve in another program

can't select charts
I have a spreadsheet with charts, and I get a circle with a line through it
when hovering over a chart. Additionally, the entire "data" tab and a good
portion of the "insert" tab are not functional.
The workbook is unshared and unprotected. Ideas?

Refresh Pivot Chart with Table?
I'm creating a large workbook with master data on one page and on all
following pages Pivot Tables with associated Pivot Charts, one worksheet per
state, 4 tables and charts per page. When I copy the Alabama formatted page
to another worksheeet and change the Report Filter to Arkansas the table
reflects the correct data, however the chart still shows Alabama data.
Right-clicking on the chart and Select Data Source provides a greyed-out
Chart Data Range. How do I fix this? Ideally I'd like to do this in as few
steps as possible, but will change each chart individually if I must.

Overlapping floating column charts?
I was reading a post by Jon Peltier on how to overlay a floating column chart
showing open/close data
over a high-low line chart showing high/low data. After creating one with
this data, I cannot figure out how to make them lay overtop of one another?
They are still stacked...

Ordering the chart by value
Hi
I have a stacked column graph which shows me how many people have been sick
over the month and for what reason. The months are on the horizontal axis
with the reason creating the stacked columns.
Is there anyway of ordering the stacked columns by values ie the greatest
used reason code is always at the bottom and the least used at the top. I am
currently struggling with it as each month the order will change and wasnt
sure if the graph can be ordered like that.

Full chart view?
When I have the verticle axis set to automatic on the Min & Max range it
usually shows a huge distance on the chart because it generally defaults to
0. If the data is 55-100, the chart will start at 0 at the bottom and the
55-100 will be toward the top scrunching the data. Seems like it should size
up the data to best fit everything when on the auto setting. I don't want to
use a fixed setting because if the data changes then I run into a similar
problem. Is there a way to either change the default settings so the charts
will automatically size themselves, or something else I can

Show zero value but hide NA
I have a report that calculates the percentage compliance on various
questions and these are then charted in a bar chart. It could be that the
compliance is zero (i.e. not doing any of the required competencies), or it
may be that the section is not applicable. Therefore, the calculation will
return either NA (not applicable) or 0%. I want the data labels in the chart
to show 0% but not NA (which currently shows as 0%, but I also tried NA(),
#NA etc and the label shows that as its value). I've tried various things
but it either hides both or shows both.

Interpreting Values
I work in a microbiology lab. We test if bugs are Susceptible, Intermediate
or Resistant to a particular antibiotic. In order to make this determination
we look at where a numeric value (we call this an MIC) falls in a set of pre
determined interpretive criteria. I have on a simple chart the number of
samples that obtained a particular MIC, it allows us to see the spread and if
the number heading towards a value that would make them resistant is
emerging. But my question is, can I on the chart show where the column of
samples with a different interpretation to those that have gon

Excel plotting problems with columns and lines
I plotted rainfall data and river levels on an X-Y graph. I then changed the
way the rainfall was displayed from a line into columns. Unfortunately,
Excel changed the way it treated the rainfall data, changing it from a time
series into categories and creating a hidden secondary X-axis.
While this may be understandable, Excel also alterred the maximum value of
the X axis, changing it from 60 down to 48. This meant that the position of
each column did not line up with the corresponding hour on the primary axis.
This wouldn't have been a major problem if the secondary axis as

Excel 2007, Ribbon: 2 added Groups<?>
Hi,
I saw the following:
* Chart Tools > Layout > 2 added groups (not on mine, but on another PC):
1. Fills Group > Patterns &
2. PTS Tools Group > T Error Bars
My Question: How did they get there and how do I added them to mine?
(I was of the understanding that 2007 Ribbon could not be modified (maybe
add an Add-In tab at best).

why won't excel allow me to add more data to a chart?
For some of my data I skip days for collecting it so I use the shift key to
click on the days I do want in the chart. I have been doing this for awhile
but now that I'm obtaining more points it has simply stopped letting me add
data points. When I click on the one where it stops collecting it erases all
of the others I have clicked and makes a stop noise. I need to add more data
so why won't it let me??

Callouts in 2007
Hello,
I have a VB6 app that launches Excel and generates charts. Currently
we use Excel 2003 but the company is finally adopting 2007. Parts of
the chart display as expected, but the callouts do not behave the
same. The following code works fine in 2003, but doesn't work in
2007. (The sub is called AddLegend even though it should be
AddCallout). There is also another code section where the callout is
positioned and the Shape.Adjustments are made to adjust the callout
line length etc.... The idea is that a chart could have multiple
lines on an X-Y Scatter plot and a callout per

I have a chart that plots data points
SUMPRODUCT(--(B498:Q534>0),--(B498:Q534<=100)/COUNT(B498:Q534))
plus other formulas (between 101 and 125 etc) Formulas are in the same column
I need the chart to label the pie slice/column with
73% (83 "widgets")
73% (can do) but I haven't discovered how to add to the label the number of
times that the criteria was meet ...83 times.

Excel charting label assistance (Sydney Australia)
I need personal help with a simple Excel X/Y graph for one particular file.
The data and graph plots a single patient's blood test results over time and
I want to mark and label milestones along the way.
In spite of many hours of Google research I have not been able to
satisfactorily resolve my issues.
I don't think that what I need is very hard (it eludes me) but the solution
probably needs the services of a person who is well versed in the Graph
functions (particularly labels). An Excel Graph expert in Sydney or
Australia would probably be more appropriate but I'm not adv

Display Empty Cells as Bar on Bar Chart
I'm creating a spreadsheet to track patch deployment and it has five phases:
Initial, Test, Pilot, Due Date and Production. Most of the cells have dates
in them but some don't. I would like for the cells with no dates to either
show a bar associated with the phase with no date or show nothing, meaning
there would be a break in the bar. Is this possible?

Plot area changed after reopen document
Hy,
I have problem with unstable format of charts in an Excel 2007
spreadsheet (under Windows XP). When I re-open a spreadsheet, the plot area
is usually contracted to a much smaller portion of the total chart area,
leaving lots of white space around the edges. This happens repeatedly with
some, but not all, of the charts in my spreadsheet. Some are x-y plots, some
are combination line, bar plots. Is there any way to keep the size of the
plot area from changing?

How do you create a chart with varied width and length?
I am trying to create a cost abatement curve where a bar represents a project
(eg. Electricity reduction) and:
- the length of the bar indicates the cost
- the width of the bar indicates the CO2e emission savings for the project
I am hoping to have multiple bars side by side to create a CO2e cost
abatement curve. I'm trying to create it in a way so that anyone can input
data and it would automatically update the chart. Any ideas anyone?

Pivot Table-Change Data Source? Excel 2007
I need to update a series of pivot tables by adding 2010 data. What's the
best way to do so? Add the updated info to the source document and refresh,
or create a new data source and refresh all the tables? Does the new source
have to have the columns in the same order as the previous?
If I create a new source document, how do I tell the tables to change the
source? Other responses to this question say to rightclick a cell and use the
wizard. I'm using Excel2007 and right clicking doesn't produce a wizard.

Plot value at top of chart
Is it possible to have the highest data point on a line graph plot at the
very top of a chart? For example, if the highest data point is 90 then I
would like highest value of the y axis to also be 90 placing the data point
at the top of the chart instead of excel automatically adding a "cushion
(like 10) to the y axis. The data points vary each time the chart is created
so i can't fix the value at 90.

Trendline partial data
I am trying to add a trendline to a process variable on a line-chart and use
it to predict when remedial action is required. When the data parameter is
reset, the trendline automatically takes in this new set of figures and
attaches it to the previous, giving a totally skewed analysis. Is there any
way that I can select only some of the data to trend? Then as the reset data
grows, only to select the new series from the process?

Excel 2007 - problems with macro to change series formula
Please help! I've just been moved to Excel 2007 and now find that the
wonderful macro below no longer works (the single chart version is still OK).
I have files with 50 charts on a single worksheet (the data is on a separate
tab) and I need to choose which rows to include rather than having an auto
update. The files are accessed from multiple workstations so a macro saved
in the workbook was ideal.
Is there any way I can modify this code to get it working? Thanks in advance.

Seemingly random plot area drift?
I've got a really frustrating issue with Excel charts. I am using Excel 2003
SP3 and XP.
I have a large workbook with many tabs. One of the tabs has about a dozen
bar charts. Every time I copy these charts into Word, and then go back to
Excel, the plot area has randomly moved. I don't do ANYTHING in this tab
except copy and paste those graphs. There is no shifting of column widths
etc.
Specifically, the plot area seems to shrink. I make a quarterly report with
these graphs and each quarter the plot area has shrunk until it gets so small
and scrunched into the middle of th

Get 2007 Chart to fill page
How do I get Excel 2007 to print a Chart "Full Page?" In previous versions,
you would just click on the chart and hit "Print" and excel would
automatically stretch the chart horizontally and vertically to fill the
entire page. In 2007, my chart fills between the left and right margins, but
there are several inches between both the top and bottom of the page and my
chart. (Even though the page margins for top and bottom are set as low as
they can go.)
What am I missing? Thanks.

selecting and viewing a range
I am interested in selecting a section of my chart to zoom in on. I would
like to identify the x-axis range from the plot/graph and have a new
plot/graph generated showing the zoomed in area. I can do this by going back
to the worksheet and hiding all the data except what I am interested in
seeing...but this is time consuming.

I want to make a chart that has data from dis-similar x axis.
For example, I want to have a line graph for an x axis with a range of 50-100.
On the same chart, I want a line graph with an x axis that has a range of

Static Chart Data Range
Excel-2007, simple line chart:
I have a chart that displays several columns of data for rows 2:84. Whenever
I insert a new row #2, the new data range for the chart is now 3:85. How do I
keep a static data range for my chart (2:84) whenever I insert new rows into
the workbook?
I have tried editing $A$2:$E$84 to A2:E84 and then saving the changes ...
but it is an excercise in futility, it always reverts back to $A$2:$E$84.
