How do I get my sizing handles back? Graph/data on same page.
I created a simple line graph on the same page as the data. The blue sizing
handles use to be present when I wanted to add data, but now the handles are
no longer present and I have to go through the longer way of adding data by
using the Chart source data option. Is there a way to get the sizing handles
back?

Scatterpoot not using X values properly -- using relative ranking
I have created a scatterplot where the X value is to be one value (risk) and
the Y value is to be another (return). I've entered the X and Y value ranges
properly and the y value is being plotted correctly, BUT the X value is not
being plotted as the correct X value. Instead, the X value is being
interpreted as the relative ranking in the list. In other words,
# in list X value Y Value
1 12.2 13.7
2 10.7 11.3
etc.
The graph is currently plotting the values as (1,13.7), then (2,11.3) and
NOT with the corre

Excel 2007 - publish chart as htm web page file
When I select a chart in Excel 7 and select Save As, I can choose file type
Web Page (.htm file) just like in 2003, but it no longer gives the option to
select just the chart. How do you save just the chart as a web page rather
than the whole sheet or whole file?
This was a simple processs in Excel 2003:
1. Create chart and do "Save as Web Page."
2. Click on the "Selection: Chart" radio button.
3. Set your file name and location, then click "Publish."
4. Verify the info on the Publish as Web Page display and click "Open
published Web page in broswer" so that you can easily co

how to copy sheet with charts without link to original data
I have a worksheet with ten charts on it. I need to copy the worksheet with
all its data and related charts to new sheets or files so I have a page for
every day, with different data entered every day. But when I copy the
worksheet with embedded charts and paste it into a new file, the charts pull
their source data from the original worksheet, not the new one.
The source data Value box is written as such, ='03-09-10'!$D$12
any ideas?

Source data - have X and Y values for 1 series
Someone before me had created a chart with columns and a line, but what I
can't figure out is how they made the line the way it is. When I go to the
Source Data the data series for the line has both an "X Values" and a "Y
Values". When I try to duplicate this in a new chart I only have the option
to enter X Values. Any idea how to get it to give me a space to enter a Y
Value?

Drawing a line on a chart
Help! I need to draw a line on a chart that is horizontal - - in old Excel,
the SHIFT key could be used to "snap to" the horizontal, but in Excel 2007,

How to set the bar with same X-axis value in same colour?
I have a bar chart showing each team's values.
Total have "A, B, C, D" 4 teams. 2 teams each day.
Listed in X-Axis are date and team.
eg. 1 Jan A, 1 Jan B, 2 Jan C, 2 Jan D.

Line Charts have no lines
Hi All,
I have some data that is entirely formulas.
When I try to chart it (scatter point w/ lines) there are no lines.
If I add some random data that is typed it, it will connect that data with
lines.
Is there a way to have the scatter point chart recognize the formulas as
data? (without copying and pasting values)?

Stack bar charts with positive and negative numbers
I am preparing a comparative stack bar graph in which both sets of data have
positive and negative numbers. I would like the sum of the each data set
(both positive and negative) to be reflected in the Y axis values. For
example, I am graphing the gross profit of various components. The total of
that gross profit in year one is $1,000. The components values are 500, 700
and -200. Is there a way to graph that in Excell 2007? The total gross

Excel corrupts charts. How do I stop this?
After saving my work in an Excel 2007 file (that has multiple charts) and
closing it, the chart formatting is corrupted and I have to resize all the
fields every time I open up the file. How do I keep the chart from getting

I Need a Blank Chart!
Helllllllp! I have inherited a report at work which automatically produces a
Powerpoint presentation of results by picking up charts from within an Excel
2003 spreadsheet. I want to just show a data table rather than an actual
chart but I need some of the residual information that is within the grouped
chart area to go into the Powerpoint presentation.
Is there any way of just showing the data table in a chart format without
the actual chart bit! I know this sounds nuts! Pivot tables won't work for
this.

Pivot table chart problem, How to show different subtotal levels
Hi,
Using Excel 2003,
I have a pivot table using external data via ODBC.
I have a chart based on my pivot table.
The table and chart are working correctly.
The PTcontains two levels of sales subtotals
1st level is by county
2nd level is by state.
My client is telling me that the data in the chart is too detailed.
He wants to have the both levels of subtotals in the PT,
but only the county subtotals in the chart.
If I delete the county sales subtotals from the chart, they are also deleted
from the PT.
Is it possible for the chart to be based on the PT and not show

Changing ChartTypes will not change the color of the Series
I have Excel 2007 and trying to make this compatible with users that
have Excel 2002/2003.
I am having a hard time with the code below. When I change a specific
series from a stacked chart to a line and then try to change the

Auto expanding X Axis for Chart
I have a chart setup, currently with reference to 31 cells width.
The chart looks great if the user places a value in each of the 31 cells,
however if there are only say 20 values placed across the cell row, the
chart is displayed over to one side, with nil values displayed where no dat
values were entered.
Is there a way to have the chart automatically vary the width depending on
the amount of values entered across the refernced row of cells?
If there was only 20 values entered, then the chart would show 1-20 charted
and leave out the 21-31.

I can get line chart to ignore zeros but the legend still contains
Hi,
I have a table linked to a series of worksheets. The table shows products 1
to 6 in cells A2:A8. It then shows sales for each year in b2, c2. c3 etc.
for product 1. b3, c3 etc for product two and so on.
It is designed to show products sold in lots of different countries. I have
a line chart linked to the table. It works fine if all six products are sold
in the country. If they are not then because Product 1-6 is always entered
even if not all products are sold the legend still shows them all. I have
tried NA'ing the cells which stops them being charted but the lege

One Chart, Same Data ranges, different source sheets
Hi All!
I have a sheet with numerous charts. The charts are standard, much like a
dashboard. The charts are fed from one sheet which is a rollup of summary
data from many other sheets. I need to create a similar summary sheet for
each of the remaining regions, but only need one sheet with charts. Is there
a way to make the SHEET reference for the charts dynamic - say, populated by
the user selecting an entry from a drop menu? The desired behavior is as

bars on chart do not match data points
Simple data set yet when I create a bar chart the bars do not match the
actual values in the cells. For some reason, Excel produces a bar that is
less than the actual value. Further, the same values in a cell produce
different bar heights and although the data labels are the right number, the
value is always listed as something less. How/why is it creating bars of a
different value from the data point?

Pivot table creates stacked column
I created a pivot table that shows the number of eligible and enrolled
patients per month/year. When I create a graph of the data I can only create
a stacked column graph. I want to create a regular column graph and have
eligible and enrolled columns 100% overlap. Does anyone know how to do that

I have workbook with about 50 sheets. they have exactly the same table ,
just data(numbers in the table) are different. Also created a chart
based on the table in the first worksheet. Chart is embedded in the
sheet). I spend some time to format the chart and want to copy and paste
it on the other sheets, but I want to reflect the data in each sheet. So
each sheet has its own graph, which looks similar but reflects data on

Nameing scattered data in chart (dot's)
I consider myself as a fairly competent excel user, but I seriuosly got
stucked on this on!!
Im duing a simple scattered chart with prices up along Y-axis and miles
along the X-axis ... But I would like each scattered dot to be named after
"my coloum N" which is car1, car2, car3 ...etc (Meaning .. If I have 30
Cars...where is car no. 1 in the chart and where is car no. 30) ??
The only luck I had so fare was either to show the X, Y- value or chart
name!!!

Change background / color of chart worksheet?
Need steps to change the color or backgound of the worksheet that is a chart.
Have multiple tabs in workbook that are just the charts. Only option for
background is to use Format-Sheet-Background. That changes background of
chart, but not the grey areas around the chart on the chart tab.

I cannot set the maximum date for the axis of a line chart
I have a line chart with a (horizontal) date axis along the bottom.
Currently I have data from Sep-2002 to Sep-2009. All of this data is shown
on the chart and the axes also go from Sep-2002 to Sep-2009.
My problem is that I want to set the maximum of the date axis to an earlier
date (say Jun-2008) hence hiding the later part of the data (without deleting
the original data). But Excel 2007 will not let me do this (apparently).
I have selected the axes and fixed the "maximum" date at an earlier date
(like Jun-2008). Surprisingly, Excel leaves the axis exactly the same (it

I am creating a coursework in which i have to analyse a lot of data in the

Applying a Theme
I cannot get the theme to work on Excel 2007. It used to work but the other
day when I was doing an assignment, it did not work. I'm not sure what
happened. I typed a chart and went to apply theme (page layout and then
theme and the live preview on the theme did not work, the fonts would not
live preview from the themes either.
The fonts do work in live preview from the home tab.
What could be wrong? I even took a spreadsheet that I did at home to the
college lab and the themes would not work on their computers either. That

Pasting Pictures
I copy hundreds of excel charts into powerpoint presentations. I always use
"paste as picture".
I just got a new widescreen monitor. Now when I paste a chart from excel to
powerpoint, the chart is wider and taller than to powerpoint slide. I have
to shrink the image way down to fit on the slide by dragging the edges.
Normally, this would be no big deal to do once or twice a day. But this is
killing me to do it hundreds of times.
Anybody solve this problem?

Table and Chart
I have three variables: Screen (month and year), Eligible (yes/no), and
Enrolled (yes/no). Screen starts on March 2005 and will continue for several
years to come. I want to create a column chart that shows for each month and
year the number of people who were eligible and enrolled. Below is a sample
of the data.
I think I want something like this:
IF A:A = Jan-05, then count B:B and C:C of the same row
where A:A is the column for Screen
B:B is the column for Eligible
C:C is the column for Enrolled

Chart Issue - Excel 2003
Hello,
I have a chart that I need to build that uses a second category axis. I need
to plot the following data in the following order:
Actual Annual Premium
Budget Annual Premium
Actual Sales
Budget Sales
Actual Premium Collected
Budget Premium Collected
The actual and budget data is listed in 2 different tabs, with 12 columns -
one for each month. The Primary axis is the monetary value; the secondary
axis is the volume. I need to show the data in the order listed above but no
matter what order I place the data into the chart, I can't get the bars to
run in this order.

Chart formatting problems (multiple)
Using Excel 2007, and having problems with simple column graphs. The first
half of my data points align properly with the gridlines along the Y axis,
but halfway through, they move consistently to the right of the gridlines for
the rest of the series. What's worse, no matter what column chart style I
select, all I get is a bold vertical line with no shading or 3D appearance
(it will pick up the color from the style I select).

copy chart formatting and chart templates in Excel 2007
In older Versions of Excel it was possible to transfer the formatting from
one chart to another with copy/paste special formats. This doesn't work in
excel 2007. Excel 2007 has the option of saving chart templates to multiply
user defined formats. But this templates don't save many formatting
elements (colors, data label option etc.). This is extremly annoying.
Where can I find a documentation that lists all the Elements that are saved
in a cltx template? Is there any possibility to come close to the old
behavior? Is there anything changed in Excel 2010?

Name for chart template does not display under My Templates
I can create a custom Chart Template in Excel 2007. When I go to use the
Chart Template, the Insert Chart dialog window shows all of my templates
under My Templates, but it just shows a generic icon for each template
without showing the name of the template under the icon. If I hover over each
template the name appears as a tool tip. Is there any way to set a default so
that the names appear?

When I attempt to insert a chart i am getting a message which says,"no new
fonts may be added to this workbook". I am adding it to a billing process and
I did the first 100 or so before it began this doing this, I am not adding
any new fonts but I am getting this message, any suggestions on what is the
cause so I can overcome it?

Performing A break even analysis
I am trying to peform a break even and sensitivity analysis using an input
area, data chart and a chart to present the information. I have fixed costs,
variable costs (one in each that are combo boxes that I change) and a selling

How do I partially fill a plot area with color?
I have charted two learning curves... the curves are basically parallel with
one another... one is just slightly higher than/above the other. I want to
fill the area below the lower of the two curve with one color; the area above
the higher of the two curves with a second color; and leave the area between
the two curves without any color. How?
The color fill button on my toolbar fills the entire plot area with one color.

year over year changes in revenue that when added to 1996 (beginning balance)

Edit X Axis Range for Bond Pricing
I am trying to chart bond pricing and am having trouble getting an accurate
graph. For example, bond pricing maxes out at 100.310 before resting back to
101.000 and counting back up. So when pricing goes from 100.310 to 101.000,
it really is not much of a change, but the graph is overexagerated since it
also accounts for 100.320 to 100.990 before resetting. Is there any way to
correct this?

Formulae Help
Could anyone please tell me, I have developed a worksheet template were I
have sourced the data labels in my chart. Sometimes this means 0 is inserted
in the chart and I wondered if it was possible when I used the formulae below
that I could state that if the source cell equalled 0 then this should not be

Column chart - data labels problem
I'm developing a chart for a client who has very specific
requirements. The data is of the following type of info:
Q1 2009 Q2 2009 Q3 2009 Q4 2009 YTD 2009
Alpha 3.3% 53.3% 18.8% 9.5% 105.8%
Bravo -0.2% 12.2% 19.7% -22.5% 3.9%
Charlie 106.6% 125.6% 2.3% -1.5% 368.4%
Delta -8.3% 1.4% 0.9% 0.8% -8.1%
I need to lay out the chart with the Y-axis being the % and the X-axis
being the Quarters, etc.

X Y (Scatter) Chart EXCEL 2007
I am plotting times on both X and Y axis.
Y axis is fine.
Underlying data fills A 1 to C 7 only.
Data in column B and C is formatted as Time 13:30:55.
Y axis formats correctly as (from top to bottom):-

Graph does not copy with the tab
I am using Excel 2007 and have a graph on the same page as the data. I want
to copy this tab into the same workbook and then tweak the data. I right
click on the tab, check the copy box, and Ok. The problem I have is that the
graph does not copy with the tab. I get all the data that was on the tab I
copied from, but the graph object did not come with the tab. Why not?
Is there a setting in excel to get the graph object to copy with the tab?

Excel is adding 2 rows of data source together when charting
I'm trying to create a simple chart that shows trending during the year. I
have several rows of data -- 1/2 of them being actual financial performance
numbers and the other 1/2 being budget numbers. When I select the data
ranges, whether using the Control Key to select all ranges at once, OR by
selecting them individually, some of my data ranges are being added together,
resulting in the ranges NOT reflecting what the source table numbers are.
The ranges appear to be correct. I've tried crafting each range individually
with the same result. Why is this happening? What am I

Positioning x axis at bottom of chart with negative values
Im using Office 2007 and have a simple line chart with negative values on the
Y axis. I have ticked the 'values in reverse order' on the Y axis but the X
axis flipped to the top of the chart. How can I keep it at the bottom please?

How do I prevent a text box from printing in XL2007?
In XL2003 I could put a text box on a chart and mark it to NOT print with the
chart. Having upgraded to XL2007 I can't find how to do that and previous
(2003) spreadsheets that had non-printable text boxes now print those boxes
in XL2007.
Can anyone help, please?

Problem with stacked column chart
I'm using Excel 2003. I have basically 2 sets of data, the 1st is a total
count of people and the other set is a breakdown of the total count into 5
subcategories. I have a stacked column chart with a weekly category axis that
has the 5 categories and the total all in one column per week. However, the
count is off because it's adding the total and the 5 subcategories. I only
want the series value to be the total.
For example, if my total is 500 then it is showing 1000 for the series value
because it's adding the total and the subcategories (subcategories always add

Excel 2007 - VBA - set xaxis orientation
How can I set the xaxis to an arbitrary angle, say -70 deg using vba?
I recorded a macro to do this and it does not actually do anything??? Tried
it 3 times. I end up with the proper layout but the recorded macro does not

Excel 2007 - Merged cells as data source
I am using a set of merged cells as a data source for a line chart. However,
I am getting empty/null entries as part of the data set from the merged
cells???
Basically, I have a set of merged cells each consisting of 3 cells. When I
create the data source I get values like:
73%,,,61%,,,...
Why is it making up value for each cell even though the cells are merged
together???
I am truly finding 2007 very frustrating and very counter-productive!

Chart not responding
I have just opened a spreadsheet that I use every month (saved as .xls but
opened in Excel 2007) and then gone to the chart to update the data to show
Feb's figures. But when I click with my mouse on the chart, nothing happens.
It won't select anything. I tried doing a new chart but even that won't
respond to my mouse.
However, if I copy the data into a new spreadsheet and generate a chart, it
responds just like it's meant to. What am I doing wrong in the existing
spreadsheet?

Excel 2007 - Chart not working
First, I must say that Excel 2007 charting is much worse to use than 97, 2000
or 2003! It is not intuitive as it was with previous versions!
I created a very simple line chart. The problem I am experiencing is that
is start my initial value at 0%, which is fine and then promptly goes upto
100% and stays there for all the other points. What I love even more is that
when I place my cursor over each point it actually give the proper values
(73%, 61%,...) but always displays the line at 100%???
Anyone ever seen this problem before?

2 axes charts in Excel 2007
Has anyone ever received or know of an update to correct the very problematic
behaviour of Excel 2007 when (trying to) produce charts with 2 independent
axes, each with manually set limits? The program regularly goes off in to a
real huff and becomes unresponsive for absolutely ages... There was an issue
fixed in SP1 (and before that with a restricted hot fix) but this became even
more problematic with SP2. It was accepted as a legitimate bug mid last year
but I have never found an update. I note that this behaviour has been cured
in Excel 2010 beta... so where is the cure for Ex

Making Data and Axis Labels Different
Hi,
I have a simple column chart that uses millions of units on its Y axis and
puts a label above each column showing the exact value. At the moment the Y
axis shos all the trailing zeros behind each million value, somethiong like:

What I would like to show is the Y axis values without the trailing zeros

Showing a different set of data in a chart
I have a chart showing numbers between 50 & 250 for hours used, I also want

Is it possible to overlay a column chart with a line chart in Excel 2007?

How do I get all 5 graph charts to show data (not be greyed out)?
Excel 2003: All of a sudden, only one the active graph shows up w/ data.
All 5 other graphs are greyed out. If I select another chart, then the

Combining a 2-D column graph and a 2-D line graph on the same char
I would like to show a 2-D column graph and a 2-D line graph on the same chart.
The independent variable on the X-axis (name of employee) is the same for
both graphs.
The dependent variables on the y-axis are different:
(1) years of experience (column graph), (2) cumulative years of experience
(line graph).
I need to use two different scales for the y-axis to make both graphs
visible, as the year of experience of the employees ranges between 1 and 40
years and the cumulative years of experience ranges between 1 and 1500 years.

Excel 2007 chart frustration
Hi,
First time post, so be nice to me!
I'm having a problem with Excel 2007 in that I cannot get it to format a
chart the way I would like it. I'm sure the issue is a simple one for
those in the know!

Display Name of each Data Series
I have an X-Y chart with, say, 3 data series, named 2008, 2009 and 2010. I
want to get rid of the legend (by deleting it) and instead have the above
names displayed on the relevant curve. Is there a way in Excel XP (aided by
VBA) to display the name of each data series on the series itself?
If one tries: Format data series -> Data Labels -> Series Name, the Series
Name is displayed 10 times if there are 10 data points! I want it displayed
only once, somewhere in the middle of the curve representing that data series.

Loss of referenced data (Titles) when upgrading from Excel 2000 to 2007
I have many instances of the same type of issue, so will provide one
example. A solution for one should fix all...
I have a chart data sheet that 20+ charts reference every month. When
creating the titles for the charts, it was necessary to refer to the
month the chart represents. This information is located in one cell on
the data sheet. In Excel 2000, all one had to do was have the focus on
the chart, type in "=" and reference the cell the date is in. The data
in the cell would then show on the chart as basically a text box and I
could manipulate other words around it to

Bar Chart 2007 Excel
Here is my data:
Issues Start End Duration
Foundation Design 22-Dec-04 23-Aug-06 609
Stone Cladding 16-Nov-04 3-Jul-06 594
Security W & D 4-May-05 15-Dec-05 225
(The 4 columns are Issues, Start, End, Duration)
I want a bar chart with issues on the left side & dates at the bottom.
I would like the bars to start on the start date & extend to the end date.
Is this possible with a bar chart or another type chart?
I cannot get it to work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Excel 2007 chart titles
Good morning,
I have just updated Excel 2007 to SP2 on my personal laptop and when I try
to enter a chart title it will not allow me to enter a second line. When I
hit enter nothing happens. My work computer has SP1 and it also will not
advance to a new line when I hit return. I had to go back to Excel 2003 to
enter the titles to get the lines I wanted. Any suggestions?

PowerPointt 2007 OLE
In the past, I have created charts in Excel 2003 linked to PowerPoint 2003
and uploaded into SharePoint. Everything has worked fine. I am now using
Office 2007. I am trying to do the exact same thing and I get the upper left
quarter of the chart as my finished product. What is the problem?

Pivot Chart Time Series work around?
i'm running with Excel 2002 sp2.
I'm now aware that a time series x-axis is not available in a pivot chart.
Maybe there's a way of getting pivot chart flexibility AND a time series
x-axis by other methods?
