Event Log - how to enumerate all event sources?

It is not enough to read all the unique 'Source' property of event entries 
since some logs may have sources against which not entries have been made.

The list I am after is found here:

Administrative tools ! Event Viewer

Select any of the log names listed (eg System), then right click & select 
Properties; on the dialogue that appears, select the Filter tab and drop down 
the Event Source combo box to see the sources defined.
