Entering IP Address in the Configuration Wizard

  • Follow

At the end of the CRM Small Business Edition Configuration Wizard it prompts
for the URL of the installation. If you use the IP address instead, what are
the consequences?

On a related issue, what does it mean when the web client repeatedly prompts
for a username and password when opened on the server using the URL. It
eventually fails to 401 page. If the IP address is entered in the browser,
one username password prompts appears, then lets you in.

On workstations the URL opens right up.....

The server is a fresh install of SBS and CRM. All patches applied.

Thanks.

No consequences. This just wants to know how to connect to CRM in order to
publish the customizations prepared by the wizard (if you choose to do so).
If it can find CRM via the IP address, it will publish the customizations and
be done.

This could be caused by a few things. Here are a few steps to take to
troubleshoot it: On your server in Internet Explorer, make sure that the URL
for CRM is in your list of Intranet sites. (IE > Tools > Options > Security
Tab > Local Intranet > Advanced > Enter the URL and click Add.

You might also need to set IE to allow integrated authentication. While you
are in the Internet Options panel, click on the Advanced tab and scroll down
to the bottom section (Security) and make sure there a checkmark next to
"Enable Integrated Windows Authentication."

If these don't fix it, check your DNS and/or host headers (if you're using
them).

Thank you for the response. This was my third post regarding the install
"challenges" I have been working through.

Rest of response inline.

This is good news. I was almost ready to reinstall again. Literally minutes
;-)

These settings were already as you you indicate above.

I have an A Record applied to the IP address for crm.domain.local

I have tested using nslookup. I also tried adding a matching entry to the
Hosts file.

I have tried with and without Host Headers set to crm.domain.local.

I do not have IIS set to All Unassigned for the CRM site. I have it set to
the address matching the A Record.

Is there any documentation you are aware of that describe setting up CRM on
it's own IP in SBS? I was trying to keep things clean given the companyweb
and Sharepoint sites that are part of SBS. I appears that it only made this
more complicated.....

I have no problem leaving it as is, as long as there are no negative
repercussions down the road.

Thanks Again,

John

I found the solution.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;896861

Removing the loopback check corrected the problem.

Hopefully this helps someone else who want to set up CRM on it's on Web
Site.

Now I only have one workstation that is getting an error about not being
able to confirm that an applicable version of Outlook is installed. I think
that one is going to require MS BS to resolve. It's the same copy of Outlook
the other stations are running. I worked with another kind soul on this
problem a few weeks back and we could not get it working.

If anyone has ideas on this I am open. So far I uninstalled all of Office
including folders. Scoured registry for Office/Outlook references.
Reinstalled, same error.

Thanks again.

John

Hi Matt,

Does it matter if you set the site to use Basic Authentication? You also
mentioned checking the headers - what should you be looking for?
