Spell Check preferences?

Hi all,

I have a user that is having problems with spell checking in Office
2004. When I set office up I did a full install with proofing tools,
etc. The user is running OS 10.4.1.

Here is the problem: spell checking never works unless he manually sets
it up (he has to got through the tools->language & uncheck "do not
check spelling or grammar..") routine for every single document he
creates. My question is: Is there a way to set this to default for all
documents?

Thanks,

I'm guessing you're talking about Word here. In Word, go to File > Open,
choose to show "All Readable Documents", and navigate to /Users/<Him or
Her>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/. Open the "Normal" template. Go to
Tools > Language, and uncheck the option for "Do not check spelling or
grammar".

Also, be sure that the Normal style is set so that spelling & grammar are
checked. Go to Format > Style. In the left pane, select the "Normal"
style, and then click the "Modify" button. Check the box that says "Add to
template". In the dialog that appears, click the menu that says "Format"
near the bottom, and from the drop-down menu, select "Language". Uncheck
the option for "Do not check spelling or grammar". Click OK, OK, and then
"Apply".

Save & close your Normal template, and you shouldn't have this problem with
future documents.

I still use Outlook Express 4.5 (on a PowerMac 8600/250 OS9.1) and the
thing I've missed most about this old programme, is a spell-check.

I was therefore surprised (to say the least) when OE 4.5 started spell
checking recently when it had never done before. Bizarre!

By looking in the OE preference window, I soon realised why this was
happening, but not exactly *how* it was happening.

I recently bought a used G4, which hadn't been wiped, and before
wiping it, I thought I'd retrieve any software, and store it on my
8600/250, until I decide what to do with it.

One of those retrievals was a 'Microsoft Office 2001' folder. And one
of the many things in there, is a dictionary which OE 4.5 has somehow
'connected with'.

I didn't even put the MS Office 2001 folder on my main hard disk
(where all my other software is) but rather on an additional internal
drive which is used mainly for video files. And I haven't even
launched or installed any of the applications in the Microsoft Office
folder.

How can this happen? Also, should I delete the whole folder in case it
does other things which might not be so handy?

DH

I wasn't a big Outlook Express 4.5 user, but I do remember from Outlook
Express 5 that the spell check functionality was only available with Office
98 or later installed; it was essentially additional functionality that
served as an incentive to purchase Office. Remember that at that time,
Entourage didn't exist. Evidently that was the case with Outlook Express
4.5 as well.

I don't think you should have any problems with Office 2001 installed
provided you download & install the latest Office 2001 update:
* Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Security Update (9.0.6)

Download it from Microsoft:

Yet, I have deliberately mis-spelled words in order to test the spell checker, and it is not finding these mis-spelled words. Payables Checks Getting Generated With 0 Value
Hello: When we go to build a batch in the "Select Payables Checks" screen (GP8.00g73), the checks get created, but there are also a number of checks getting created with a value of $0.
