IE8 Title bug - This webpage could not be saved

According to Microsoft Connect (https://connect.microsoft.com/IE) I should
report a possible bug in this newsgroup.

When I want to save a webpage I sometimes get the message "This webpage
could not be saved". I discovered that this was caused by the 'title' tag of
the html document. It seems that the error message is shown whenever the
'title' tag exceeds 259 characters.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bits and tested IE 8.0.6001.18828 both
32-bits and 64-bits version.

Posting it here as a bug is likely going to do very little to change IE.

There's a filename size limit in Windows itself of 255 characters. When you
choose to save a file in IE it uses the title element to produce a filename,
but doesn't restrict it to the filename limit. You'll just have to remember
that any time you see that error that you'll need to delete some characters
from the end of the file, at least until IE9 comes along (assuming this bug
is fixed in that version).

Cancel save form action
I need a solution on how to stop a CRM form from saving. To be precise, the form should not get saved and the save action should be cancelled. Based on the following instruction in the SDK customization document "The OnSave script can return with false, which will cancel the saving process.", I tried quite a few combinations but was unsuccessful. If anyone has had a similar experience and has a solution, I'll be grateful if they share the same. ...

Excel spreadsheet opening in IE8 instead of Excel 2003
I have an excel spreadsheet on the network but opened through Sharepoint Small Business Server 2003. All the PCs on the network correctly open the XLS file in Excel 2003 except for this one particular PC that insists on opening it in IE8. This has happened before but after a few days solved itself - so we never got to the bottom of it. I have confirmed that XLS files are associated with Excel but it is still happening Anybody any thoughts. Thanks BJ I've never used any version of SharePoint, but this is what I'd try. Saving document for mail merge
Can someone help me?? I have created a flyer using Publisher that contains text as well as pictures, clip art and graphics. When Publisher saves a document it uses the *.pub extension and of course mail merge in word will not accept that extension. I’ve tried the save it as a *.txt, but get the message that only the text will be saved and I will lose everything else. Is there a better way to save these types of documents? As I no longer have any hair on my head for trying to figure this out and searching for an answer on Microsoft’s website? Sorry all, I'm using MS Office 2003 ...

how to save settings for printing several envelopes
I want to print addresses on several envelopes which are the same size but the addresses are different (for Christmas cards). Is there a way to do this without going to options each time and reset the size and font that I want? Create an envelope template. You can start from scratch with a new document, selecting the desired paper size (or specifying a custom size) or use Add to Document to add your envelope to the current document. Then see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/DetachEnvelope.htm for instructions on separating the envelope from the document. Once you have just the ...

Money 2004 still has duplicate budget item bug
I was very disappointed to see the duplicate budget item bug still in Money 2004 Deluxe. Maybe I need to create a new file and copy/paste all transactions to fix it, but I was (probably naively) hoping it would just go away. Specifically, I have 2 duplicate budget items that were added to my budget automatically because they were a-pays at one point, long since stopped and deleted in the "Bills" section however. No way to delete them from the budget, though...only "Add" and "Edit..." are available as options. So, the entire budgeting area of Money is unu...

DEP and IE8 under XP
After a hardware upgrade (to an Athlon II x2 Regcor 245 chip and new motherboard), I'm struggling with a DEP-related problem. Running XP SP3 and IE8. The new chip is hardware DEP capable; the old one wasn't. The DEP is set to "protect critical programs," if I recall the wording correctly, not to protect all programs. Although the latter setting is supposedly the default, the "critical programs" setting showed the radio button when I looked at the DEP settings the first time. There is only one problem I've found (...my wife has found -- it's h...

Save as comma csv problems
Hello, I hace Excel 2002. I have near 6000 addresses and contacts and wish to save the xls to a comma csv. I have done that before and then imported the comma csv into my membership program were it says 'import comma csv'. The problem is that some (300 odd) of the records are not imported correctly. I think this maybe because here are some commas in some of the fields eg 24 my street, whatever. Would that be the cause, and if so how can I get rid of all the commas? Many thanks rock Check your other post. rock wrote: > > Hello, > > I hace Excel 2002. > &g...

bug in common controls
I seem to have found a bug in the common control wrapped by CTreeCtrl. Repro (VS2008, compiled and run on Vista): 1. Create a dialog-based native mode application. 2. Place a CTreeCtrl on the form. 3. Assign an icon which uses alpha-blending (i.e. it possesses the characteristic of transparency) to an imagelist. Something with about 25-30% transparency shows the effect well. 4. Associate the imagelist with the tree control. 5. populate the tree with some items which use the icon. 6. Hover the mouse over an item, repeatedly. The problem seems to be a paint bug: the icon is being pai...

Is there a "savings goal" feature?
