Upgrading to MBS Dynamics V9 SP1 issues for developers

So we're trying to get all set up with SP1, and having some issues. The
actual Dynamics SP1 installation seems to go ok, and we can get into
Dynamics the regular way. But when we try getting into it with test mode,
we get a
"A product installed on your computer is on a different version than the
database version. You will not be able to use the application until this
issue is resolved. Use the GP_LoginErrors.log file in your temp directory
to assist in resolving this issue."

The problems with this error message are:
1) The log file doesn't exist.
2) The dictionary we're trying to open is the Canadian Payroll SP1 source
code dictionary, provided by MBS.

To resolve this, we've tried a few dictionaries. The guy playing with this
right now is on Dexterity 9.00.0068.0, because we thought that might be
causing the problem, but that's the Dexterity version right from the SP1
page.

Any help would be appreciated.

Clint

PS: I also posted this in the microsoft.private.mbspartner.developer
newsgroup, but that one's pretty much dead. A reply in here would probably
be better. I see David M. hangs out in here now. :)

I've had the same problem. I had to delete the Fabrikam, drop TWO
database, recreate it and then re-add sample data and then it worked.
Though, my other companies upgraded fine. Not sure, what caused this -
I've had many 3parties installed, and I thought has to be some sort of
conflict w/ them. But if you are having same problem, then either we
both did something wrong, had same 3 party that created the problem OR
it's a bug. Hope, some else can provide some more info on it.

Thanks,

VJ

Hi Clint

I still check the other discussion group, but as you said it is fairly dead.

I only just upgraded to SP1 and had not tried to run in test mode since. So
I checked and I can see the same issue you are having.

Here are my solutions for you in order of preference:

1) Perform a developer update or use Source code control to move the code
into an v9.0 SP1 Dynamics.dic (build 259).

2) In Dex, Under Application >> Install, change Module 066's Build number
from 114 to 259.

3) Edit the DU000020 table for PRODID = 0 to the build number of your
Dynamics.dic (which can be seen on the first login window), but then you will
need to change it back to 259 to run Great Plains properly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, David. I knew you must be hiding somewhere. :) Maybe it's time to
shut down the private newsgroups? It would be nice to still have a
developer group for Dex (and other MBS/GP/whatever) people, though.

I'll give those things a whirl. I thought we weren't supposed to do the
Developer Update anymore, according to the release notes? But your first
idea was my first thought too. Unfortunately, I can't do it from here. We
need to do that anyway, to make sure all our stuff still works with the SP1
stuff.

Your fix #2 allowed me to get into Test mode successfully.

Upgrading the CPU?
I was thinking about possibly upgrading my current 1.6 GHz CPU on my Dell Desktop with a faster 2.2 GHz CPU (which is compatible and available), but I had a couple of general questions: Would upgrading the CPU would require some, or perhaps most, apps to need to be reactivated again, due to tripping some copy protection features of the apps? IOW, will apps typically look at that alone and that's enough, or does it take 2 or more large changes to the system to normally trigger it? Also, when making image backups on my system to my second internal SATA2 drive, I am now get...
