ODBC issues

My client's hard drive crashed over the weekend. They installed the new hard
drive, they had been using MSDE but took the opportunity to install SQL 2005
Express. We then installed GP. At first the server was named "accounting."
we couldn't get the odbc to work and renamed the computer (and the name
changed for the SQL server) to "Accounting" as a workgroup. The first name
had a period at the end of the name. We got the odbc to work on the server
and GP works fine there, but we can't get the odbc to work on the client
machines.

We tried all three resolutions suggested in the KB, we were able to ping the
server with name and IP address, we changed to named pipes and we tried using
the ip address instead of the name, none of them worked.

What else can we try?

Thanks for any help.

Tracey,

Firewall on server may have port 1433 closed, make sure that its not, and
also make sure that the SQL configured to enable remote connections.

SQL Server 2005 Express does not allow remote connections by default. You
have to change the settngs in order to allow remote connections.

Do a search on "SQL Server 2005 remote connections" on the regular Microsoft
support site to find an article re: how to fix this.

It caught me the first time I used SQL Server Express in a production
environment.

Thanks so much! I knew there was some issue but I could not remember what.
There wasn't anything in GP knowledgebase, but I found it immediately in
Microsoft knowledgebase.

Thanks again-I appreciate your quick response!
